接触性皮炎是皮肤或粘膜接触外来的刺激或过敏物质后，在接触部位发生的皮肤的急性炎症，在接触部位发生的急性炎症，也可逐渐转化成慢性皮炎。可分原发性刺激（如强酸、强碱等）和变态反应（如动物性、植物性、化学性）两种。
其临床表现为红斑、肿胀、丘疹、水疱、甚至大疱，临床所见以化学物质致病为多见。原发性接触性皮炎可见于任何人，变态反应接触性皮炎仅发于少数人。皮炎的程度取决于该物质的致敏性与患者的反应性。治疗首先去除病因，避免再接触及对症治疗，再通过脱敏治疗，往往收到很好的疗效。
引起过敏的因子叫做过敏原。一般的人对于过敏原并不起任何反应。但是患有接触性皮肤炎的病人，若暴露于特定的环境下或是特定的季节时，即有可能有接触性皮肤炎的发生。
