技术领域
本发明涉及一种显示装置及其驱动方法。
背景技术
随着信息技术的发展,作为连接用户与信息的媒介的显示装置的市场扩大。与此对应,诸如液晶显示器(LCD)、有机发光显示装置、电泳显示器(EPD)和等离子体显示面板(PDP)之类的显示装置的使用增加。
前述显示装置中的一些显示装置,例如LCD或有机发光显示装置包括:包括以矩阵形式设置的多个子像素的显示面板、以及驱动显示面板的驱动器。驱动器包括向显示面板提供扫描信号(或栅极信号)的扫描驱动器以及向显示面板提供数据信号的数据驱动器。
当显示面板基于从电源单元输出的电压以及从扫描驱动器和数据驱动器输出的扫描信号和数据信号而发光或者使光透过显示面板时,前述显示装置显示具体图像。
在现有技术中,为了改善显示面板的屏幕由于电力的波动而闪烁的问题,提出了通过向电源单元的输出端子增加低压差稳压器(LDO)来使输出电压的脉动最小化的方案。
然而,所提出的方案通过增加的稳压器可能能够减小电力的波动,但闪烁依旧存在,且由于稳压器导致的电力损耗降低了效率且增加了电路的复杂性,导致制造成本增加,因而这是需要改进的。
发明内容
在本发明的一个方面中,提供了一种显示装置,包括:显示面板、驱动器、电源单元和电力控制单元。所述显示面板可显示图像。所述电源单元可向所述显示面板提供源电压。所述电力控制单元可与用于驱动所述显示面板的装置的驱动周期同步地控制所述电源单元,且将扫描驱动器、数据驱动器和时序控制器的同步信号中的一个或多个与所述电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率控制为同步。
在本发明的另一个方面中,还提供了一种显示装置的驱动方法。所述显示装置的驱动方法可包括:提取出用于驱动显示面板的单元的驱动周期;提取出向所述显示面板提供源电压的电源单元的驱动周期;和使所述单元的驱动周期和所述电源单元的用于产生电力的晶体管的开关频率同步。

根据本发明实施方式的显示装置由电视、机顶盒(STB)、导航装置、视频播放器、蓝光播放器、个人电脑(PC)、家庭影院和移动电话等实现。作为显示装置的显示面板,可选择液晶显示面板、有机发光显示面板、电泳显示面板或等离子体显示面板,但本发明并不限于此。然而,下文中为了描述的目的,将作为一个示例描述有机发光显示装置。
图1是示意性图解有机发光显示装置的框图,图2是示意性图解图1中所示的子像素的示图。
如图1中所示,有机发光显示装置包括图像供给单元110、时序控制器120、扫描驱动器130、数据驱动器140、显示面板150、电力控制单元160和电源单元180。
响应于从扫描驱动器130和数据驱动器140输出的扫描信号和数据信号DATA,显示面板150显示图像。显示面板150可根据顶部发光方案、底部发光方案或双向发光方案来实现。
显示面板150实现为平板型、曲面型或具有柔性的类型。在显示面板150中,位于两个基板之间的子像素SP响应于驱动电流而发光。
如图2中所示,单个子像素包括与扫描线GL1和数据线DL1连接(或形成在扫描线GL1和数据线DL1之间的交叉部分中)的开关晶体管SW、以及响应于通过开关晶体管SW提供的数据信号DATA进行操作的像素电路PC。像素电路PC包括:诸如驱动晶体管、存储电容器和有机发光二极管(OLED)之类的电路、以及补偿电路。
在子像素中,当驱动晶体管响应于存储在存储电容器中的数据电压而导通时,驱动电流提供给位于第一电源线VDDEL与第二电源线VSSEL之间的OLED。OLED响应于驱动电流而发光。
补偿电路是用于补偿驱动晶体管的阈值电压等的电路。补偿电路包括电容器和一个或多个薄膜晶体管(TFT)。可根据补偿方法不同地配置补偿电路,因而将省略其详细图示和说明。基于低温多晶硅(LTPS)、非晶硅(a-Si)、氧化物或有机半导体层来实现TFT。
图像供给单元110处理数据信号并连同垂直同步信号、水平同步信号、数据使能信号和时钟信号一起输出数据信号。图像供给单元110将垂直同步信号、水平同步信号、数据使能信号、时钟信号和数据信号提供给时序控制器120。
时序控制器120从图像供给单元110接收数据信号DATA等并输出用于控制扫描驱动器130的操作时序的栅极时序控制信号GDC和用于控制数据驱动器140的操作时序的数据时序控制信号DDC。时序控制器120将数据信号DATA连同数据时序控制信号DDC一起提供给数据驱动器140。
响应于从时序控制器120提供的栅极时序控制信号GDC,扫描驱动器130在将栅极电压的电平移位的同时输出扫描信号。扫描驱动器130包括电平移位器和移位寄存器。扫描驱动器130通过扫描线GL1到GLm将扫描信号提供给包括在显示面板150中的子像素SP。
扫描驱动器130可以以面板内栅极的方式形成或者作为集成电路(PC)形成在显示面板150上。扫描驱动器130中的以面板内栅极的方式形成的部分为移位寄存器。
响应于从时序控制器120提供的数据时序控制信号DDC,数据驱动器140采样并锁存数据信号DATA,根据伽马参考电压将数字信号转换为模拟信号,并输出转换的数字信号。
数据驱动器140通过数据线DL1到DLn将数据信号DATA提供给包括在显示面板150中的子像素SP。数据驱动器140可形成为集成电路(IC)。
电源单元180基于从外部提供的输入电力来产生电力,并输出产生的电力。电源单元180驱动包括在其中的电力产生晶体管,以改变输入电力,从而产生并输出第一源电压VDDEL和第二源电压VSSEL。电源单元180可配置为DCDC转换器,DCDC转换器将输入的第一DC电压转换为不同于第一DC电压的第二DC电压。
从电源单元180输出的第一源电压VDDEL和第二源电压VSSEL提供给显示面板150。第一源电压VDDEL是高电位电压,第二源电压VSSEL是低电位电压。此外,电源单元180可产生提供给显示单元中包括的控制单元或驱动单元的电力。
电力控制单元160通过与外部装置相互配合来控制电源单元180。电力控制单元160通过与外部装置相互配合来改变电源单元180的电力产生晶体管的开关周期(频率)。
电力控制单元160改变用于控制电源单元180的电力产生晶体管的开关信号。电力控制单元160可包括在电源单元180中,可位于电源单元180的外部,或者可包括在其他电路单元中。当电力控制单元160配置为单独的装置(IC)时,电力控制单元160可安装在上面安装有电源单元180的同一电路板上,或者电力控制单元160和电源单元180可安装在不同的电路板上。在此情形中,电力控制单元160、电源单元180和外部装置可通过连接器、电缆或信号线电连接。
在显示面板150基于从电源单元180输出的电力VDDEL和VSSEL以及从扫描驱动器130和数据驱动器140输出的扫描信号和数据信号DATA而发光或者使光透过显示面板时,如上所述的显示装置显示具体图像。
从电源单元180输出的电力VDDEL和VSSEL需要保持输出的稳定性和可靠性以及具有较高的效率。由于这个原因,在现有技术中,为了改善显示面板的屏幕由于电力的波动而闪烁的问题,提出了通过向电源单元的输出端子增加低压差稳压器(LDO)来使输出电压的脉动最小化的方案。
下文中,将考虑此常规提出的方案的问题来描述本发明的实施方式。
[现有技术的结构]
图3是图解现有技术的问题的波形图,图4是示意性图解现有技术的显示装置的一部分的构造的示图。
如图3和4中所示,在常规提出的方案中,在不考虑用于用于驱动显示面板150的装置的驱动周期(异步方案)的情况下控制电源单元180的电力产生晶体管。
详细地说,数据驱动器140和扫描驱动器130基于同步信号Sync被同步,但与这些元件不同,电源单元180与其他装置不同步(其由时序控制器简单控制)。
在图3中,Fsw_VDDEL表示电力产生晶体管的开关频率。在图4中,显示面板150被示意性显示为包括开关晶体管SW、驱动晶体管DT和有机发光二极管(OLED)。DATA表示提供给第一数据线DL1的数据信号,GATE表示提供给第一扫描线GL1的扫描信号。
在常规提出的显示装置中,1帧设为60Hz,水平行的数量为1K,水平同步信号Hsync设为60Hz,用于产生并提供第一源电压VDDEL的电力产生晶体管的开关频率设为1.2MHz,且在此状态中观察显示装置的驱动周期,结果,这些信号具有下列关系。
水平同步信号(Hsync)4个周期=第一源电压(VDDEL)61个周期(1.22M/60K)
垂直同步信号1个周期=水平同步信号(Hsync)1K个周期=第一源电压(VDDEL)20,333+1/3个周期
垂直同步信号(Vsync)3个周期=第一源电压(VDDEL)61K个周期=20Hz
根据前述关系,在常规提出的显示装置中,第一源电压VDDEL的开关周期和显示面板150的驱动周期并不同步。结果,在常规提出的显示装置中,第一源电压VDDEL的脉动频率分量的最小频率分量降低至20Hz,因而当装置操作时闪烁增加。
作为参考,在垂直同步信号(Vsync)60Hz驱动的情形中,可预见到60Hz级别的闪烁,但实际上,识别到20Hz级别的闪烁。对于此问题,特别是当用于驱动有机发光显示装置的第一源电压VDDEL的脉动频率降低时,识别到闪烁。
在常规提出的显示装置中,用于产生并提供第一源电压VDDEL的电力产生晶体管的开关频率设为1.2MHz,但由于电源单元180内的振荡器的变化,当电力产生晶体管被驱动时产生1.22MHz的频率偏差。
因而,证实了常规提出的方案易受脉动频率分量影响,脉冲频率分量影响电源单元180的输出第一源电压VDDEL的输出端子。例如,影响电源单元180的输出端子的脉动频率分量如下。
(1)由于显示面板150内的寄生电容分量等,以水平同步信号的频率分量为基础的耦合,(2)用于产生第一源电压VDDEL的电力产生晶体管的开关频率分量,(3)根据实际情况而在电流周期处产生的负载瞬态电压(load transient voltage)。
根据通过分析前述分量而获得的结果,看出当驱动周期不是整数倍关系(不彼此同步)时频繁产生脉动频率分量。
因而,可在第一源电压VDDEL中观察到的混合(通过混合元件Mix得到)频率可能非常小。结果,可在第一源电压VDDEL中观察到的脉动的周期显著增加,且由于此较大的周期,在子像素(例如OLED)中流动的电流的变化周期也可同样增加。当较大周期的电流的变化增加到足以被人眼看到时,就识别到闪烁。
因而,在现有技术中,通过向电源单元180的第一源电压VDDEL的输出端子增加稳压器能够减小电力的波动。然而,常规提出的方案仍旧涉及闪烁,稳压器的电力损耗降低了效率且电路的高复杂性增加了制造成本。
[本发明实施方式的结构]
图5是示意性图解本发明实施方式的波形图,图6是示意性图解根据本发明实施方式的显示装置的一部分的构造的示图。
如图5和6中所示,在本发明的实施方式中,与用于驱动显示面板150的装置或单元的驱动周期同步地控制电源单元180的电力产生晶体管。
详细地说,基于同步信号Sync将数据驱动器140、扫描驱动器130和电源单元180同步。特别是,电源单元180的电力产生晶体管的开关周期基于诸如用于控制数据驱动器140和扫描驱动器130的水平同步信号Hsync之类的同步信号Sync而变化。开关周期可基于垂直同步信号而变化。
在图5中,Fsw_VDDEL表示电力产生晶体管的开关频率。在图6中,显示面板150被示意性显示为包括开关晶体管SW、驱动晶体管DT和有机发光二极管(OLED)。DATA表示提供给第一数据线DL1的数据信号,GATE表示提供给第一扫描线GL1的扫描信号。
在根据本发明实施方式的显示装置中,1帧设为60Hz,水平行的数量为1K,水平同步信号Hsync设为60Hz,用于产生并提供第一源电压VDDEL的电力产生晶体管的开关频率设为1.2MHz,且在此状态中观察显示装置的驱动周期,结果,这些信号具有下列关系。
水平同步信号(Hsync)1个周期=第一源电压(VDDEL)20个周期(1.20M/60K)
垂直同步信号1个周期=水平同步信号(Hsync)1K个周期=第一源电压(VDDEL)20,000个周期
垂直同步信号(Vsync)1个周期=第一源电压(VDDEL)20K个周期=60Hz
根据前述关系,在根据本发明实施方式的显示装置中,第一源电压VDDEL的开关周期和显示面板150的驱动周期同步。结果,在根据本发明实施方式的显示装置中,第一源电压VDDEL的脉动频率分量呈现为60Hz,因而水平同步信号Hsync和用于产生第一源电压VDDEL的开关频率同步。
为此,在根据本发明实施方式的方案中,扫描驱动器130、数据驱动器140和电源单元180的驱动频率同步(或者为整数倍关系),使得关于驱动频率的混合分量的频率没有减小。
如此,在根据本发明实施方式的方案中,因为驱动频率的混合分量的频率保持在垂直同步信号Vsync的级别(大约60Hz)(没有降低至Vsync以下),所以可消除可能被人眼识别到的闪烁。
在根据本发明实施方式的方案中,即使在电源单元180中发生了振荡器偏差,仍可通过与外部装置的同步处理执行偏差补偿。因而,没有出现像常规提出的方案中,在由于振荡器偏差而设定的开关频率中产生1.22MHz(超过1.2MHz)的频率偏差的问题。
如上所述,在常规提出的方案中,第一源电压VDDEL的脉动频率降低,在其提出的方案中不可能预见到脉动频率将呈现为频率分量,因而呈现在显示面板150上的闪烁被密集地识别到。与此相对照,在根据本发明实施方式的方案中,因为第一源电压VDDEL的脉动频率极大可能地保持在60Hz,所以呈现在显示面板150上的闪烁几乎不被识别到。
下文中,将描述用于实现本发明实施方式的显示装置的构造的示例。
图7是图解根据本发明实施方式的显示装置的第一构造的示图,图8是图解根据本发明实施方式的显示装置的第二构造的示图。在图7和8中,Vin表示提供给电源单元180的输入电压,GND表示地电压。
如图7中所示,在根据第一构造的显示装置中,通过电力控制单元160使三个装置,即电源单元180、扫描驱动器130和数据驱动器140同步。
电力控制单元160通过与扫描驱动器130和数据驱动器140相互配合来改变电源单元180的电力产生晶体管SWT的开关周期。例如,参考扫描驱动器130和数据驱动器140的驱动频率(或驱动周期),电力控制单元160使驱动频率与用于控制电源单元180的电力产生晶体管SWT的开关信号同步。为此,电力控制单元160可参考扫描驱动器130的垂直同步信号和数据驱动器140的水平同步信号。
如图8中所示,在根据第二构造的显示装置中,通过电力控制单元160使两个装置,即电源单元180和时序控制器120同步。
电力控制单元160通过与时序控制器120相互配合来改变电源单元180的电力产生晶体管SWT的开关周期。
例如,参考时序控制器120的驱动频率(或驱动周期),电力控制单元160使驱动频率与用于控制电源单元180的电力产生晶体管SWT的开关信号同步。为此,电力控制单元160可参考时序控制器120的垂直同步信号和水平同步信号。
同时,电源单元180可基于从电力控制单元160提供的信号使其驱动频率同步。电源单元180可将其信号传输给电力控制单元160,以基于驱动频率使电力控制单元160和其他装置同步。
如此,电源单元180可根据电力控制单元160的配置方式执行与和其相互配合的装置的被动同步或主动同步。将描述其示例。
图9是图解根据本发明实施方式的电力控制单元的第一构造的示图,图10是图解根据本发明实施方式的电力控制单元的第二构造的示图。
如图9中所示,电力控制单元160包括用于将频率加倍的倍频器。倍频器可从诸如时序控制器、扫描驱动器或数据驱动器之类的驱动装置100接收信号(DATA输出时钟),并基于接收的信号产生与其整数倍对应的高频率的信号(电压或电流)。
当基于倍频器配置电力控制单元160时,电力控制单元160可基于从驱动装置100提供的信号(DATA输出时钟)识别出装置的驱动周期,并以与整数倍对应的频率产生和输出用于控制电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关信号(VDDEL开关时钟)。
结果,电源单元180可响应于从电力控制单元160输出的开关信号(VDDEL开关时钟),在能够与驱动装置100同步的状态下产生并输出第一源电压VDDEL。
如图10中所示,电力控制单元160包括能够分配(分割)频率的频率分配器(分频器)。频率分配器(分频器)可从电源单元180接收开关信号(VDDEL开关时钟)并基于开关信号产生与其整数除数对应的低频率的信号(电压或电流)。
在基于频率分配器(分频器)配置电力控制单元160的情形中,电力控制单元160可基于从电源单元180提供的开关信号(VDDEL开关时钟)识别出装置的驱动周期,并以与整数除数对应的频率产生和输出用于控制诸如时序控制器、扫描驱动器或数据驱动器之类的驱动装置100的信号(DATA输出时钟)。
结果,驱动装置100可响应于从电力控制单元160输出的信号(DATA输出时钟),在能够与电源单元180同步的状态下产生并输出数据信号或扫描信号。
图11是图解根据本发明实施方式的显示装置的应用例的波形图,图12是图解现有技术的电源单元和根据本发明实施方式的电源单元的构造之间的对比的示图。
在本发明的实施方式中,即使当通过将1个水平周期分割为N(N为大于等于2的整数)个子水平周期来进行驱动时,装置的驱动频率也可被同步为对应于单位频率。
如图11中所示,在本发明的实施方式中,当通过将显示装置的1个水平周期(第N个Hsync)分割为三个子水平周期Sub_Hsync(模式1到模式3)来驱动显示装置时,与单位频率对应的子水平同步信号(Sub_Hsync)可与用于产生第一源电压VDDEL的开关信号的频率同步。
如图12的(a)中所示,常规提出的显示装置在不考虑用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期(异步方案)的情况下控制用于产生电源单元的第一源电压VDDEL的开关信号。
为了改善闪烁,除了电源单元180中的用于产生第一源电压VDDEL的源电压产生单元DCDC以外,常规提出的显示装置还应向第一源电压VDDEL的输出端子增加稳压器(LDO)。然而,常规提出的方案仍旧涉及闪烁,由于稳压器(LDO)导致的电力损耗降低了效率且电路的高复杂性增加了制造成本。
相比之下,如图12的(b)中所示,根据本发明实施方式的显示装置与用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期同步地控制用于产生电源单元180的第一源电压VDDEL的开关信号。
结果,与现有技术的结构相比,根据本发明实施方式的显示装置能够仅使用电源单元180中的用于产生第一源电压VDDEL的源电压产生单元DCDC而显著改善闪烁。此外,在根据本发明实施方式的显示装置中,因为省略了稳压器(LDO),所以改善了电力损耗,从而提高了效率,且因为电路复杂性(趋向紧凑型的电路简化)降低,所以能够降低制造成本。
在上面的内容中,电力控制单元被描述为用于控制显示装置的电源单元的装置。然而,其仅仅是举例说明,电力控制单元可应用于基于电源单元进行操作的任何电子装置。
同时,与液晶显示装置相比,对于有机发光显示装置,甚至由于电源单元的输出端子中产生的较小脉动(非常小的脉动)也可在显示面板上识别(或看到)闪烁的问题更加敏感。因而,当本发明的实施方式应用于有机发光显示装置时,预期本发明的实施方式具有更高的效率。
下文中,将描述根据本发明实施方式的显示装置的驱动方法。
图13是图解根据本发明实施方式的显示装置的驱动方法的流程图。
如图13中所示,提取出用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期(步骤S110)。接着,提取出向显示面板提供源电压的电源单元的驱动周期(步骤S120)。之后,通过使扫描驱动器、数据驱动器和时序控制器的同步信号中的一个或多个与电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率同步,使用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期和电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率同步(步骤S130)。之后,向显示面板提供电力、数据信号和扫描信号,以驱动显示面板(步骤S140)。
为了使用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期和电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率同步,可使用如上所述的改变用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期和电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率的方案。此外,也可使用与电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率同步地改变用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期的方案。
如上所述,本发明能够改善甚至由于电源单元的输出端子中产生的电压的较小脉动(非常小的脉动)也可在显示面板上识别(或看到)闪烁的问题,并可保持输出的稳定性和可靠性。此外,因为省略了电源单元的输出端子中设置的稳压器,所以能够改善电力损耗,从而提高效率,并能够降低电路复杂性,从而降低制造成本。

Claims (2)

1.一种显示装置,包括:
电源单元,所述电源单元配置成向显示面板提供源电压;和
电力控制单元,所述电力控制单元配置成与用于驱动所述显示面板的装置的驱动周期同步地控制所述电源单元,
其中所述电力控制单元执行控制,以使扫描驱动器、数据驱动器和时序控制器的同步信号中的一个或多个与所述电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率同步,
其中所述电力控制单元与所述电源单元的所述电力产生晶体管的所述开关频率同步地改变用于驱动所述显示面板的所述装置的驱动周期,并且
其中所述电力控制单元包括频率分配器或分频器,所述频率分配器或分频器配置成从所述电源单元接收用于控制所述电力产生晶体管的开关信号并基于所接收的开关信号产生与其整数除数对应的低频率的信号,所述频率分配器或分频器进一步配置成将所述低频率的信号输出至用于驱动所述显示面板的所述装置,从而与所述开关频率同步地改变用于驱动所述显示面板的所述装置的所述驱动周期。
2.一种显示装置的驱动方法,所述方法包括:
提取出用于驱动显示面板的装置的驱动周期;
提取出向所述显示面板提供源电压的电源单元的驱动周期;和
使用于驱动所述显示面板的所述装置的所述驱动周期和所述电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率同步,
其中使用于驱动所述显示面板的装置的驱动周期和所述电源单元的电力产生晶体管的开关频率同步包括:
从所述电源单元接收用于控制所述电力产生晶体管的开关信号并基于所接收的开关信号产生与其整数除数对应的低频率的信号,并且
将所述低频率的信号输出至用于驱动所述显示面板的所述装置,从而与所述电源单元的所述电力产生晶体管的所述开关频率同步地改变用于驱动所述显示面板的所述装置的所述驱动周期。
