背景技术
电视和因特网的融合是一个持续的目标,该目标产生了大量使观看者很方便地利用单个TV机架从惯常TV源和因特网二者来访问内容的系统。通过这种方式,能够利用类似的电视技术使之对人们可用的节目的数量能够被极大地扩展。
这种融合还导致TV更加计算机化。这又意味着TV更加变得软件驱动化。一旦TV被出售,则其软件如果保持静止的话,将不如较新的TV的软件能力强。
发明内容
一种系统包括包含TV显示器和因特网适配模块的TV,该因特网适配模块利用音频视频链接和控制链接被连接到TV。TV被配置用于响应于在控制链接上所承载的数据,显示经由音频视频链接从模块接收到的视频。在第一时间,模块仿真因特网接口以向TV发送因特网视频,并且另外,在第二时间,模块停止仿真因特网接口,而是仿真海量存储设备,该海量存储设备可由TV访问以从中获得软件。

首先参照图1,示出了一般被指派为10的系统,该系统包括带有TV处理器14的TV 12和有形数字存储介质16,该有形数字存储介质可以是但不限于,磁盘或光盘驱动器、诸如随机访问存储器或只读存储器或闪存之类的固态设备、可移动棒介质(stick medium)或可移动软盘,等等。介质16和处理器14如图所示与显示器18一起被容纳在TV机壳中,显示器诸如但不限于高清晰度(HD)矩阵显示器或标准清晰度阴极射线管显示器,或者,处理器14和/或介质16可位于TV机壳的外部,例如,在机顶盒中或在以下讨论的模块中。通常,TV处理器被编程有代码,以用于接收更新,所述更新为一种被以下逻辑所支撑的机制。
TV 12通常包括无线接收机,该无线接收机诸如但不限于用于从手持遥控器22接收无线信号的IR接收机20,该手持遥控器22具有诸如但不限于IR发送机24的无线发送机。在遥控器22中的处理器26能够根据现有技术公知的原理从用户可操纵的键阵列28接收输入,以致使发送机24向TV 12发送无线信号,该无线信号包括使光标在显示器18上移动的光标控制信号。
在图1中示出的非限制性实施例中,可利用因特网适配模块32将来自诸如因特网30之类的广域计算机网的音频视频内容提供给TV 12,以用于将其呈现在显示器18上,该因特网适配模块可具有访问计算机可读介质35的模块处理器34。模块32可与TV 12利用诸如高清晰度多媒体接口(HDMI)之类的通信接口36传送音频视频数据,以从因特网将内容提供给TV。模块32还能够在控制链接37上通过诸如通用串行总线(USB)接口之类的控制链接接口37a与TV交换控制信息。该控制信息可包括用于显示和用户交互的命令和GUI元素。
能够被实现为后置盒(set-back box)(SBB)或诸如光盘播放器之类的其他设备的模块32可物理地与TV 12的机壳配合,其中通过在模块和TV上的各自连接器建立通信,或者,模块32可经由软线被连接到TV12。在任意情形中,虽然如以上所暗示的,模块32可以可替换地利用诸如Wi-Fi、WiMAX等等与因特网进行无线通信,但是,模块32的因特网接口39(诸如有线或无线的调制解调器)能够通常通过计算机电缆被连接到因特网,该计算机电缆从模块32的机壳延伸至因特网插座。音频视频内容可从一个或多个因特网30上的内容服务器38经由模块32被提供,以用于在TV显示器18上呈现。
图2示出了根据本原理的逻辑。虽然图2具体涉及需要更新的TV和获取用于升级TV的软件的SBB,但是,一般的原理应用于除了TV之外的可跟新组件以及除了SBB之外的更新组件。
开始于框40,USB链接37以及(如果需要的话)HDMI连接在模块32和TV 12间被建立。在框42,TV自动地经由USB链接向模块发送标识数据。该数据可包括TV型号和序列号。TV标识信息还能够被模块32从TV的HDMI键选择向量(KSV)读取,该向量通常在HDMI路径上被接收。
继而,在框44,模块32在例如因特网上将TV ID信息发送到服务器,所述服务器诸如图1中所示的服务器中的一个或在广域网上的另一服务器。服务器包括将TV标识信息与可用软件更新相关联的数据库,并且如果服务器找到任何可与已上载的TV ID信息相关联的信息,则在框46,服务器利用诸如因特网将合适的更新发送回模块32。软件更新可被存储在模块32中的介质35内。
当模块接收到更新时,在框48,其将其软件仿真(softwareemulation)从因特网适配器的软件仿真变更为海量存储器中的一个,使得对TV 12看来,其显示为例如USB海量存储设备。相应地,在框50,TV将模块32作为海量存储设备检测,在框52,将来自模块32中的介质35的软件载入到TV 12的TV介质16中。相应地,TV处理器14访问介质16,以更新其内部软件,例如,其操作系统或其他软件镜像。
如在图2中的框54所示,TV 12向模块32发送诸如预定文件或其他消息的特殊消息以指示更新的完成。作为响应,在框56,模块32再次变更其软件仿真,这次再次对TV显示为因特网网络接口。然后,适于网络适配器的控制信息交换可接下来在USB链接上被交换。
在框42、52、54和56中的在TV和模块间的以上信息的交换可经由USB链接。因特网视频经由HDMI链接从模块32被发送到TV 12。
虽然具体的“利用TV因特网适配器的TV软件升级”已在此处示出并被详细描述,但是,应当理解,本发明所包括的主题内容仅由权利要求所限制。例如,不是因特网适配器,或除了是因特网适配器以外,模块32可以是视频盘适配器,以向TV提供视频盘能力,在该情形中,更新数据能够被从适配器中的盘被载入到TV,该适配器包括上述TV ID和TV更新文件的数据库,以及更新文件自身。

Claims (13)

1.一种系统,包括:
包括TV显示器(18)的TV(12);以及
至少一个利用音频视频链接和控制链接(37)被连接到所述TV(12)的适配器模块(32),所述TV(12)被配置用于响应于在所述控制链接(37)上承载的数据,显示从模块(32)经由所述音频视频链接所接收的视频,所述模块(32)在第一次时仿真用于向所述TV(12)发送视频的接口,所述模块(32)在第二次时停止仿真接口而是仿真可由所述TV(12)访问以从中获得软件的海量存储设备。
2.如权利要求1所述的系统,其中,所述模块(32)仿真因特网接口,并且从因特网获得所述软件。
3.如权利要求1所述的系统,其中,所述模块(32)仿真视频盘接口并且从与该接口配合的盘中获得所述软件。
4.如权利要求1所述的系统,其中,所述TV(12)包括处理器(14),该处理器向所述模块(32)发送指示所述TV(12)已从所述模块(32)获得所述软件的特殊消息。
5.如权利要求4所述的系统,其中,响应于所述特殊消息,所述模块(32)停止仿真海量存储器,而是仿真因特网接口。
6.如权利要求1所述的系统,其中,所述控制链接(37)是通用串行总线(USB)链接。
7.如权利要求1所述的系统,其中,所述模块(32)由后置盒实现。
8.一种由模块处理器(34)可读的有形数字存储介质(35),用于:
向配置用于执行可更新软件的组件(12)呈现因特网接口的仿真;
从所述组件(12)接收(42)标识所述组件(12)的信息;
经由因特网将所述信息发送(44)到服务器(38);
从所述服务器接收回(46)用于所述组件(12)的已更新软件;
向所述组件(12)呈现(48)海量存储设备的仿真;以及
允许(50)所述组件(12)访问所述已更新的软件。
9.如权利要求8所述的介质,其中,所述组件是TV(12)。
10.如权利要求9所述的介质,其中,所述模块(32)由后置盒实现。
11.如权利要求10所述的介质,其中,所述TV(12)包括处理器(14),该处理器向所述模块(32)发送指示所述TV(12)已经获得所述已更新的软件的信号。
12.如权利要求11所述的介质,其中,响应于所述信号,所述模块(32)停止仿真海量存储器,而是仿真因特网接口。
