技术领域
本发明涉及一种组合式连接器系(connector family)，其具有可在不同应用中选择性使用的通用部件。
背景技术
当今存在用于各种应用的多种连接器。例如，连接器用于连接电路板、连接电缆、连接电缆和电路板等。通常，每种类型的连接器被设计成用于专门的应用，并且连接器的总体结构在指定的应用中用起来既配制得当又精简高效。大多数应用具有不同的结构设计和性能要求。因此，设计成用于板安装应用的连接器最适于板安装应用的限制条件和性能要求。独立地，打算供电缆应用的连接器最适于满足电缆应用的结构要求和性能要求。
一旦为指定的应用而设计特定的连接器，就构造专用的工具来大量生产该特定的连接器。通常，较之与传统的电缆连接器相关的工具，与传统的板安装连接器相关的工具大不相同。因此，必须构造并维护单独的工具以用于每种类型的连接器。用于每种类型的连接器的单独工具增加了与生产相关的总成本。
因此，对于连接器仍存在这样的需求，即，能容易地适用于多种应用，比如具有多种信号触点和电力触点图形的板安装应用和电缆应用。
这一问题通过根据本发明的连接器系而解决。
发明内容
一种连接器系，包括中心壳体，该中心壳体具有连接器接合面和板安装接口。触点保持在中心壳体内。外壳成形为装配在中心壳体上并且至少部分地包围板安装接口。该外壳具有构造成与电缆连接的电缆接口。触点、中心壳体和外壳根据第一应用和第二应用中预期的一个应用而以不同的第一结构和第二结构使用。在第一应用中，外壳安装在中心壳体上以形成第一结构，而在第二应用中，外壳移除以将板安装接口暴露在中心壳体上以形成第二结构。

具体实施方式
本发明的实施例总地涉及具有多个单独部件的连接器系。这些部件以不同的组合和触点图形来连接，依预期的应用而定。单个连接器系可支持两种或更多的应用。在下文中描述的一些实施例中，示范性的应用包括板安装和电缆组件，但也可用于其它应用。在这些实施例中，连接器系包括通用的具有可移动外壳(图1和2)的中心壳体(图1、2、5、6、9和10)，和不同组的信号触点和电力触点(图1至10)。应该理解，图1至10中的部件形成了各个连接器系的组合，无需全部用于形成单个连接器系。
图1示出了由根据本发明实施例的一个连接器系形成的、装配成用于电缆应用的电缆组件。电缆组件10包括中心壳体12(也称为头部)，该中心壳体12保持在由上半壳16和下半壳18形成的外壳14中。上半壳16和下半壳18在接缝20处相连接，以部分地围住中心壳体12。中心壳体12包括引导部22，该引导部外露且从外壳14的前侧24伸出。外壳14还包括后表面或电缆接口26，其被构造成分别接纳电力和信号线或电缆28和30。上半壳16和下半壳18包括贯穿其中的开口32，用以与固定柱34(attachment post)对准并接收之，该固定柱34形成于中心壳体12上并从该中心壳体12上下延伸。螺钉36可靠地使上半壳16和下半壳18一起保持在中心壳体12上。外壳14的相对端包括具有贯穿开口40的保持容座38，其被构造成接纳紧固件来保持具有接合连接器的电缆组件10。

图2示出了图1中电缆组件10的分解图。上半壳16和下半壳18已分开，以更好地示出独立的部件。中心壳体12的顶壁46、底壁48和端壁50大致是平面的，以形成矩形块状的外封壳。固定柱34分别从顶壁46向上延伸和从底壁48向下延伸。固定柱34与上半壳16和下半壳18中的开口32相对准。上半壳16和下半壳18具有基本上彼此成镜像的内部功能部件。因此，未详细地示出上半壳16的内部。上半壳16和下半壳18中的每一个包括前侧24、侧面60和后壁62。后壁62包括成形为接纳相应的电力和信号线或电缆28和30的凹槽部分或开口64、66。延长支架68位于每个上半壳16和下半壳18内。延长支架68包括弯曲的导线间隙槽(cured wire clearanceslot)70。当上半壳16和下半壳18连接在一起时，凹槽部分64和导线间隙槽70分别形成了适当地定位电力和信号电缆28和30的凹穴。
下半壳18包括在箭头C的方向上以横列排列的多个组织元件(organizing element)71。组织元件71包括交替的终端支托元件78和端子保持元件72。相似的组织元件列形成在上半壳16中。上半壳16中的端子支托元件78和端子保持元件72与下半壳18中相同的组织元件横向错开。也就是说，下半壳18中的每个端子支托元件78与上半壳16中的一个端子保持元件72垂直对准，并且与上半壳16中的端子支托元件78横向错开。对于端子保持元件72，存在同样的关系。
图3示出了保持在图1的中心壳体12中的电力触点56的立体图。电力触点56可由整体的块材冲压而成。电力触点56包括U形体202，其包括平行对齐的侧部204。每个侧部204包括一系列从中向前延伸且彼此对准的触点梁206至208。相对的触点梁206至208通过间隙210而分开。U形体202在基部212与扩口的导线压接元件(wire crimping element)214一体形成。导线压接元件214包括侧面216，该侧面216是分开的以在其间形成导线保持区域218。基部212还与具有相对支腿222的绝缘压接元件220一体形成，当导线或电缆的导电部安置在导线保持区域218的内部时，该相对支腿222被构造成包卷导线或电缆上的绝缘材料。
图4示出了图3中的电力触点56，导线可靠地压接在其中。如图4所示，导线压接元件214的侧面216弯曲，直到可靠地接合并保持电力电缆226的导体224。支腿222也紧紧地包卷和牢靠地接合电力电缆226上的绝缘体228。
图5示出了根据理想应用和触点图形而形成的中心壳体112的立体图。中心壳体112包括限定内腔144的顶壁146、底壁148和端壁150。后壁154包括多个分别从中贯穿而形成的信号触点开口182和电力触点开口184。在图5的实例中，信号触点开口182以4×6的图形排列，并且每个信号触点开口182中可靠地保持着独立的信号触点158。在图5的实例中，触点结构设有一组以4×6的图形形成的信号触点158、一对设在一侧上的电力触点156以及设在相对侧上的四个电力触点156。应该理解，一个或多个电力触点156可代表接地触点，并且可使用更多的或更少的电力触点156和信号触点158。
顶壁146和底壁148分别包括一系列线条147和149。线条147和149代表虚拟的模块分界线，其指示放入模制工具中的单独模具插件，以限定信号触点开口182和电力触点开口184的各图形。线条147和149不代表中心壳体112的结构面。例如，单独的电力触点模具插件可装入参考标号190和192表示的每个部分的模制工具中。工具插入部190对应于电力触点开口184，而工具插入部192对应于信号触点开口182。工具插件的组合和结构可以根据意欲使用中心壳体112的特定应用而变。
图6示出了图5中的中心壳体112的背面立体图。中心壳体112包括大致为平面的板安装接口194。信号触点开口182和电力触点开口184从内腔144(图5)通过后壁154而延伸到板安装接口194。在图6的实例中，电力触点156和信号触点158(图5)分别包括从板安装接口194伸出的电力触点尾部196和信号触点尾部198。电力触点尾部196和信号触点尾部198被构造成如“针眼”的销，以压力配合到电路板(例如，印刷电路板)内的孔(例如，通道)中。在图6的实例中，每个电力触点156(图5)包括与之一体形成的一组八个电力触点尾部196，尽管也可使用更多的或更少的触点尾部196。每个信号触点158(图5)包括相应的从板安装接口194延伸出的单个信号触点尾部198，尽管也可以与每个信号触点158一起使用多于一个的信号触点尾部198。

图7示出了保持在图5和图6的中心壳体112中的电力触点156。电力触点156包括具有侧部304的U形体部302，侧部304彼此平行且分离地形成。侧部304的前缘305与接触梁306至308一体形成。接触梁306至308通过间隙310彼此分离。侧部304还包括后缘307，触点尾部196从其中延伸。在图7的实例中，“针眼”状触点尾部196与电力触点156一体形成，在该处，触点尾部196与从平行的侧部304延伸的两平行列对准，尽管可设有更多的或更少的触点尾部196。

图9示出了安装在电路板500上的图3和图4的中心壳体112。当安装在电路板500上时，板安装接口194可靠且直接地与电路板500的表面相邻接。在图9的板安装应用中，外壳14(图1)被整个移除，并且一组电力触点156和信号触点158装在中心壳体112中，该中心壳体112具有被构造成将被板安装(例如，压力配合、焊接等)的触点尾部。
图10示出了根据可替换的实施例所形成的中心头部612。中心头部612包括不同的触点图形，使得信号触点658全部在一端对准在由支架657所表示的部分中，而电力触点656全部在相对端对准在由支架655所表示的通用部分中。作为实例，图10的结构可代表以4×8的图形排列的32个信号触点和8个电力触点。

Claims (9)

1、一种连接器系，包括：中心壳体(12，112)，该中心壳体具有连接器接合面(42)和板安装接口(194)；以及，保持在中心壳体中的触点(56，58；156，158)，其特征在于：
外壳(14)成形为装配在中心壳体上且至少部分地包围板安装接口，并且该外壳具有构造成与电缆连接的电缆接口(26)，其中所述触点、中心壳体和外壳根据第一应用和第二应用中预期的一个应用而以不同的第一和第二结构使用，在第一应用中，所述外壳安装在中心壳体上以形成第一结构，而在第二应用中，所述外壳移除以将板安装接口暴露在中心壳体上而形成第二结构。
