技术领域
本发明涉及具有光纤的光纤传感器。
背景技术
近年来,已经要求车辆不仅改进乘客的安全性,而且改进与车辆碰撞的行人的安全性。已知在车辆上设有行人保护装置,用于减小对可能由于碰撞跌倒在车辆发动机盖上的行人的伤害。在行人保护装置中,重要的是确定行人的碰撞。作为检测行人碰撞的方式之一,已知使用具有光纤传感器的碰撞检测传感器。该碰撞检测传感器例如安装到车辆的保险杠上。
光纤传感器基于光纤中传递的光的改变来检测施加到光纤的应力。通常,光纤由外部应力变形,并且在变形部分光纤的光传递特性改变。当光纤的光传递特性部分改变时,从光纤发射的光在例如强度和相位方面具有与通过光纤之前的光特性不同的特性。光纤传感器通过使用光传递特性的改变来检测应力。
光纤传感器通常具有用于发射光到光纤中的光发射构件和用于接收已经通过光纤的光的光接收构件。此外,光纤传感器具有基于从光发射构件发射的光的特性和在光接收构件中接收到的光的特性来计算施加到光纤的应力的计算部分。根据JP-A-2004-20894中公开的光纤传感器,光发射构件、光接收构件和计算部分分别构造为模块并且连接到彼此。
但是,在这样的光纤传感器中,很可能在光发射构件和光接收构件之间的光路中具有光的损失。例如,当光经过光纤以及在光纤的端部与光发射构件及光接收构件之间的连接部分处很可能发生光损失。由于光的损失,来自光接收构件的输出信号被减弱。在此情况下,需要在计算部分中放大该输出信号。但是,噪声信号随着输出信号的放大而被放大。因此,需要消除噪声。
在光发射构件和光接收构件中,光纤的端部并不与光发射构件的光发射部分和光接收构件的光接收部分直接接触,以减小由光纤端部对光发射部分和光接收部分引起的损坏。因为光纤的端部与光发射部分和光接收部分分开,在这些部分发生光的损失。
此外,光发射部分和光接收部分的表面通常覆盖有诸如树脂模制品的透光材料。因此,光路由于树脂模制品的厚度而增大,导致光的损失。不仅光在通过树脂模制品时减弱,而且光很可能发生漫射。因此,光接收构件中接收的光减少。
此外,在光发射部分和光接收部分与模制品之间以及在光纤端部和树脂模制品之间的界面上,光产生界面反射。此界面反射也导致光的损失。
发明内容
本发明的目的是提供一种光纤传感器,其具有在光纤的连接部分处减小光损失的结构。
在本发明的光纤传感器中,光纤的第一端连接到光发射构件并且光纤的第二端连接到光接收构件。该光发射构件具有光发射部分,通过光发射部分将光照射到光纤的第一端。该光接收构件具有用于接收从光纤的第二端射出的光的光接收部分。光纤具有芯部分和覆盖芯部分外周的包层部分。此外,光发射部分小于光纤的第一端的芯部分的横截面积。
在本发明的光纤传感器中,减少了从光发射部分照射到光纤的第一端的端部表面之外的光的量。就是说,在光发射构件和光纤第一端之间的连接部分处的光损失被减小。因为从光发射部分射出的光被充分地引入到光纤的第一端中,增大了用于检测操作的光的量。此外,光接收构件充分地接收该光。因此,提高了传感器的检测精度。

具体实施方式
本发明的光纤传感器具有光纤、连接到光纤第一端的光发射构件和连接到光纤第二端的光接收构件。光发射构件向光纤的第一端发射光。光在光纤中从第一端传递到第二端,并且从第二端向着光接收构件照射。光纤传感器基于从光发射构件发射的光的特性(例如强度和相位)和在光接收构件中接收的光的特性,来确定当光通过光纤时产生的光的改变。此外,光纤传感器基于光的改变计算施加到光纤的应力。
当应力施加到光纤时,光纤变形并且在光纤的变形部分处光传递特性改变。在变形部分处,光在其上反射的光纤芯部分和包层部分之间的界面的方向改变。结果,在光纤中光的行进方向改变。此外,光的强度很可能减小。因此,施加到光纤的应力基于从光纤第二端照射的光的特性而被检测到。此光纤传感器可以用作车辆传感器,因为其较小可能受到电磁波的影响。
以下,将参照附图详细说明本发明的优选实施例。在此实施例中,光纤传感器示例性用作碰撞安全系统的车辆碰撞检测传感器,以检测行人的碰撞。此处,相似部件由相似标号指示,并且其说明不再重复。
如图1所示,碰撞检测传感器8安装到车辆V的前部以检测对保险杠1的碰撞。车辆V具有在乘客舱前面的发动机舱E。车辆V可以为任意类型的车辆,只要其具有保险杠1。车辆V可以具有在乘客舱前面的行李舱,而非发动机舱E。
碰撞检测传感器8具有光纤2、光发射构件3、和光接收构件4,如图2所示。保险杠1位于发动机舱E的前部。保险杠加强构件10由前侧构件Vm支撑。光纤2沿着保险杠加强构件10的前表面布置。负载板11(基本上具有板形形状)布置在光纤2的前面。此外,吸收器12布置在负载板11的前面用于减小冲击。吸收器12由诸如泡沫树脂的弹性材料制成。此外,保险杠盖13布置在吸收器12前面。
如图3所示,光发射构件3连接到光纤2的第一端20。光发射构件3发射光使得光在光纤2中行进。光接收构件4连接到光纤2的第二端21。光接收构件4接收已经通过光纤2的光。
光发射构件3和光接收构件4集成并容纳在壳体34中。在图3中,为便于图示单独示出了光发射构件3和光接收构件4。壳体34位于邻近保险杠加强构件10的第一端(例如乘客车座侧),如图2所示。
光纤2具有导线形状,外径为2.2mm。光纤2具有芯部分25和覆盖芯部分25外周的包层部分26。芯部分25由热固性丙烯酸树脂制成。芯部分25的外径d0为1.5mm。包层部分26与芯部分25整体形成并且由氟树脂(FEP)制成。包层部分26具有0.35mm的厚度。
如图2所示,光纤2沿着保险杠加强构件10的前表面基本上布置为U形形状。特别地,光纤2从壳体34延伸到保险杠加强构件10的第二端(例如,驾驶员车座侧)。光纤2在保险杠加强构件10的第二端处转弯,并且沿着保险杠加强构件10的前表面进一步延伸到壳体34。
光发射构件3包括发光二极管(LED)30。发光二极管30具有光发射部分300,光通过该光发射部分300照射到光纤2的第一端20。光纤2的第一端20保持在壳体34中,使得第一端20的端部表面20a与光发射部分300相对。此外,光纤2的第一端20布置成使得光发射部分300的中心位于第一端20的轴线L1上。
LED30具有由透光材料制成的树脂模制品。树脂模制品覆盖光发射部分300的外周。光发射部分300小于芯部分25的横截面积。特别地,光发射部分300的外部尺寸小于直径1.5mm的圆。在光发射部分300具有圆形形状的情况下,光发射部分300的直径d1小于芯部分25的直径d0。在此实施例中,光发射部分300具有正方形形状,边长为0.28mm。
光接收构件4与光发射构件3一起容纳在外壳34中。光接收构件4包括光电二极管(PD)40。PD40具有用于接收从光纤2的第二端照射的光的光接收部分400。PD40固定在外壳34中。光纤2的第二端21保持在外壳34中使得第二端21的端部表面21a与光接收部分400相对。此外,光纤2的第二端布置成使得光接收部分400的中心位于第二端21的轴线L2上。
光接收部分400由树脂模制品覆盖,该树脂模制品由透光材料制成。光接收部分400大于芯部分25的横截面积。特别地,光接收部分400的外部尺寸大于直径1.5mm的圆。在此实施例中,光接收部分400具有正方形形状,边长为2.0mm。
外壳34在与LED30和PD40相对应的位置处具有两个孔。光纤2的第一端20和第二端21分别插入并固定在这些孔中。此外,光纤2的第一端20在端部表面20a稍微从LED30的表面分离的情况下被固定。类似地,光纤2的第二端21在端部表面21a稍微从PD40的表面分离的情况下被固定。
光发射构件3和光接收构件4连接到计算部分5,如图1所示。计算部分5控制将从LED30发射的光。特别地,计算部分5控制供应到LED30的电流,由此控制LED30发射的光的量或者强度。PD40在从光纤2的第二端21接收到光时向计算部分5输出信号。
计算部分5基于该信号确定通过光纤2的光的状况,即施加到光纤2的碰撞负载。特别地,计算部分5将在PD40中接收到的光的特性(例如强度、相位)与从LED30发射的光的特性进行比较,由此确定光纤2的状况。基于光纤2的状况,计算部分5确定碰撞到保险杠1的目标。
在此实施例中,计算部分5还用作碰撞安全系统的计算装置以保护与保险杠1碰撞的行人。就是说,计算部分5在确定与保险杠1碰撞的目标为行人时操作碰撞安全系统。作为行人保护装置,例如门柱气囊6由碰撞安全系统操作。
在碰撞检测传感器8中,由计算部分5的指令将电流供应到LED30,因此LED30发光。在LED30中,光发射部分300的外部形状小于直径1.5mm的圆,并且LED30的表面稍微从光纤2的端部表面20a分离。当LED30发光时,从光发射部分300射出的光漫射。
在此实施例中,光发射部分300小于芯部分25的横截面积,因此从光发射部分300射出的光充分地照射到光纤2的端部表面20a。如图4所示,从光发射部分300射出的光漫射并且在不同方向上行进。沿着第一端20的轴线L1行进的光7A照射到芯部分25并且进入光纤2。在不同于轴线L1的方向上行进的光7B可以照射到芯部分25并且接收到芯部分25中。
因为光发射部分300小于芯部分25的横截面积(d1<d0),减小了将照射到芯部分25外部的光(例如光7C)的量。因此,在光发射构件3和光纤2之间的连接部分处的光损失被减小。减少了不对检测操作起作用的光的量。换言之,从光发射部分300射出的光被充分地引入到光纤2中并用于检测操作。
光发射部分300越小,照射到芯部分25之外的光就减少得越多。光发射部分300相对于光纤2的尺寸根据光发射部分300与光纤2的第一端20的端部表面20a之间的距离和从光发射部分300射出的光来决定。此外,优选的是照射到光纤2的第一端20的光的直径小于芯部分25在端部表面20a处的直径d0。
已经经过光纤2的光从光纤2的第二端21照射到PD40。类似地,从第二端21射出的光漫射。在此实施例中,PD40大于芯部分25的横截面积,因此光被充分地接收到PD40中。类似地,在光纤2和光接收部分4之间的连接部分处减小了光的损失。
光接收部分400越大,照射到光接收部分400之外的光就越少。光接收部分400相对于光纤2的尺寸根据光纤2的第二端21的端部表面21a和光接收部分400之间的距离及从第二端21射出的光来决定。
因此,即使从光发射部分300射出的光漫射,该光也接收在光纤2的第一端20的芯部分25中,此芯部分25的横截面积大于光源尺寸。类似地,即使从光纤2的第二端21射出的光漫射,该光也接收在具有比第二端21端部表面21a尺寸大的尺寸的光接收部分400中。由光的漫射引起的光损失被减小。
因此,在光纤与光发射构件3及光接收构件4之间的连接部分处的光传递得到改进。此外,碰撞检测传感器8的检测性能得到改进而无需增大从LED30发射的光的程度。因为光被充分引入到光纤2中,光接收构件4可以输出具有足够强度的光。因此,减小了放大信号的必要性。此外,容易处理该输出信号。此外,提高了检测精度。
在此实施例的碰撞安全系统中,计算部分5控制LED30发射光。PD40从光纤2接收光并且输出该信号到计算部分5。计算部分5基于从LED30发射的光(指令到LED30的光)的特性和由PD40接收的光的特性来确定通过光纤2的光的改变,由此确定光纤2的状况。
当确定光纤2的状况通过在保险杠1处的碰撞而被改变时,门柱气囊膨胀装置60被操作以展开门柱气囊6。因此,与保险杠1碰撞的目标,特别地行人较小可能将直接撞击到发动机盖和车辆的门柱,由此减小该撞击的冲击。
因此,在碰撞检测传感器8中减小了光的损失。因此,以改进的精度检测到对保险杠1的碰撞。此外,减小了对与保险杠1碰撞的行人的伤害,并且改进了行人的被动安全。
在上述实施例中,计算部分5还用作碰撞安全系统的计算部分。但是,碰撞检测传感器8的计算部分5和碰撞安全系统的计算部分可以单独地设置。碰撞检测传感器8的计算部分5可以与光发射构件3和光接收构件4集成在一起。
在上述实施例中,光发射部分300布置为与光纤2的第一端20的端部表面20a相对。替代地,光发射部分300可以如图5所示地布置。就是说,光发射部分300可以嵌入光纤2的芯部分25中。在此结构中,来自光发射部分300的光被完全射入到芯部分25中。因此,在光发射构件3和光纤2之间的连接部分处的光损失被进一步减小。
在上述实施例中,光纤2由树脂制成。芯部分25和包层部分26由具有不同反射率的材料制成。替代树脂光纤2,也可以使用玻璃光纤2,只要芯部分25和包层部分26具有不同反射率。芯部分25和包层部分26的反射率之间的差不限于特定值。此外,光纤2可以具有任何直径和任何长度。在传统光纤传感器中使用的普通光纤可以用在本发明的光纤传感器中。
此外,光发射构件3优选地布置为从光发射部分300射出的光的轴线与光纤2的第一端20的轴线L1一致。此外,优选的是光发射部分300的表面垂直于光纤2的第一端20的轴线L1。
在上述实施例中,光发射构件3具有LED30作为光源。但是,光源不限于LED30。光发射部分300可以发射任何类型的光,只要该光可以从第一端20到第二端21行进通过光纤2并且从第二端21射出。此外,优选的是从光发射构件3发射的光具有单一波长。
类似地,光接收部分4优选地布置为使得光接收部分400的轴线与光纤2的第二端21的轴线L2一致。此外,优选的是光接收部分400的表面垂直于光纤2的第二端21的轴线L2。
在上述实施例中,光接收构件4包括光电二极管(PD)。但是光接收部分400可以设置任何其他元件,只要其可以接收来自光纤2的第二端21的光并且检测该光的改变。
此外,光发射部分300小于光纤2的芯部分25的横截面积。此处,横截面积是在与芯部分25的轴线垂直的横截面中测量的。就是说,光发射部分300的外部尺寸或者直径d1小于芯部分25的外径d0。优选地,当沿着光纤2的第一端20的轴线L1观察时,光发射部分300包括在芯部分25的外部形状中。更优选地,从光发射部分300射出的光的直径小于在光纤2的第一端20的端部表面20a处的芯部分25直径d0。
本发明的光纤传感器示例性用于碰撞检测传感器8以检测车辆与行人的碰撞。使用行进通过光纤2的光来执行检测操作的光纤传感器较小可能受到电磁波的影响。因此,不需要具有电磁波防护结构。
因此,具有上述结构的光纤传感器适合于用作需要电磁兼容性(EMC)的车辆传感器。在本发明的光纤传感器中,光纤2的长度增大,因为减小了光的损失。因此,本发明的光纤传感器适合于用作安装到车辆保险杠1的碰撞检测传感器。在碰撞检测传感器中,通过计算部分5确定行人的碰撞。此处,行人不限于在街道上步行的人,而可以包括诸如在骑自行车的人的任何人。

Claims (7)
1.一种光纤传感器(8),包括:
光纤(2),具有芯部分(25)和覆盖芯部分(25)的包层部分(26);
连接到光纤(2)的第一端(20)的光发射构件(3),该光发射构件(3)具有用于发射光到光纤(2)的第一端(20)的光发射部分(300);和
连接到光纤(2)的第二端(21)的光接收构件(3),该光接收构件(3)具有用于接收从光纤(2)的第二端(21)射出的光的光接收部分(400),其中
光发射部分(300)小于芯部分(25)的横截面积。
2.根据权利要求1所述的光纤传感器(8),其中光接收部分(400)大于芯部分(25)的横截面积。
