Embodiment
In more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 to Fig. 3 illustrates the present preferred form of fuel pump and filter assemblies 10, and this fuel pump and filter assemblies are used for drawing fuel oil and pressurization and filter fuel to be used for being sent to motor (figure does not show) from fuel tank (figure does not show). As illustrated best among Fig. 3, assembly 10 comprises and is used for drawing with the fuel oil pump assembly 12 of pressurization fuel oil, is used to carry the housing 14 of fuel oil pump assembly 12 and is carried on the filter 16 that housing 14 is used to filter the pressurization fuel oil that receives from fuel oil pump assembly 12.Assembly 10 can use separately or unite use to be used for being inserted into fuel tank with fuel pump module (figure does not show).
Fuel oil pump assembly 12 is any suitable pump-unit, and such as the electro-mechanical pump device, this pump-unit pressurization fuel oil is to be used to be sent to the upstream or the inlet side of filter 16.Fuel oil pump assembly 12 in centralized positioning, makes filter 16 and housing 14 round fuel oil pump assembly 12 with respect to filter 16 and housing 14.Fuel oil pump assembly 12 has the electric motor 18 between inlet end cap 24 and outlet end cap 26, and this electric motor has the live axle 20 that is connected to mechanical fuel pump 22, and all these is carried on along in assembly 12 axially extended sidewalls or the sleeve pipe 28.
At first end 30 places of fuel oil pump assembly 12, first end cap 24 can comprise having electric elements 36, is used for electric coupler 34 with motor 18 electrical communications such as lead, lead-in wire pin (terminal pin), electric wire etc.At the second end 32 places of fuel oil pump assembly 12, second end cap 26 can comprise fuel pump inlet 38 and fuel pump outlet 40, makes basically the second end 32 place's fuel oils at this assembly be drawn in the fuel oil pump assembly 12 and from fuel oil pump assembly 12 and discharges.Such similar open in U.S. Patent Application Publication No. 2006/0083631 with exemplary fuel pump, it transfers this assignee and integrally incorporated herein by reference.
Although enter the mouth 38 and outlet 40 be depicted as and pass end cap 26 and extend in a longitudinal direction, also expected be basically the second end 32 places of fuel oil pump assembly 12 inlet 38 with export 40 and can any other suitable mode determine direction and set.For example, fuel oil pump assembly 12 equipment side is discharged type, wherein passes the side discharge of fuel oil pump assembly 12 in the outlet of the second end 32 places of this assembly.Such exemplary fuel oil pump assembly is at U. S. Patent 6,231, and open in 318, it is transferred to this assignee and integrally incorporated herein by reference. As graphic assembly 10, this exemplary fuel oil pump assembly and housing 14 can be arranged with the outside output pressurization fuel oil with respect to housing 14.
Fuel oil pump assembly 12 is carried and is preferably linked on the housing 14 by housing 14 in any suitable manner. For example, as will be discussed in detail below, fuel oil pump assembly 12 can weld or be press fit on the housing 14.And fuel oil pump assembly 12 can be linked on the housing 14 in any suitable manner, and this mode comprises uses the complete fastening feature of snap-fit, independent fastener or the like.
As shown in the figure, the madial wall of housing is double does pump block pipe 28 and is supported on wherein fuel oil pump assembly 12.In other words, the preferably shared public sidewall 28 of pump assembly 12 and housing 14, it is fuel pump sleeve pipe or any other suitable general hollow and preferred cylindrical parts.Preferably, pump block pipe 28 and end wall 44 and end wall 46 are made such as steel by metal, and each of end wall all is welded to sleeve pipe 28 at 50 places continuously along circumference. Therefore, not elasticity of demand sealing between pump assembly 12 and housing 14.And this structure makes the good heat transfer between the fuel oil in pump assembly 12 and the fuel oil chamber 42 become possibility, so that cooling motor 18.
In addition, housing 14 can comprise fuel filler 52 to admit fuel oil from fuel oil pump assembly 12, fuel flow returns portion 54 fuel oil is turned back to fuel tank (figure does not show) and fuel outlet 56, and the fuel oil of filtration passes this fuel outlet can flow to motor.Any suitable seal 58 can be arranged on inlet 52, backflow portion 54 and export in 56, such as elastic O-ring.
In addition, housing 14 any suitable shape and size.As shown in the figure, housing 14 generally is columniform, but also any other suitable shape. For example, housing 14 spherical or hemispheric, wherein end wall and sidewall are complete to small part.In another example, housing 14 has the box-like of a plurality of sidewalls.
The structure of the parts of the assembly process of fuel pump and filter assemblies 10 and assembly 10 can realize in any suitable manner, comprises using automatic or manual assembling, welding, molded, processing, being shaped or the like. For example, housing 14 can comprise the drawn cup that limits second end wall 46 and outer side wall 48, and covers as the mold pressing of first end wall 44.Housing 14 can be made of any suitable material, but is depicted as the metal of any suitable composition, such as steel, stainless steel or aluminium.Similarly, fuel oil pump assembly sleeve pipe 28 can be formed such as steel pipe, Stainless Steel Tube or aluminum pipe by metal parts, and can be supported by housing 14 in any suitable manner.Yet housing 14 and sleeve pipe 28 can be welded together by suitable plastic moulding and thermal weld or melting welding.
Thereafter, the outer side wall 28 of housing 14 can be linked first end wall 44 of housing 14 continuously along circumference, and second end wall 46 of housing 14 is linked sleeve pipe 28 continuously along circumference, such as passing through laser bonding or friction welding or the like.Subsequently, the parts of fuel oil pump assembly 12 can fit in the sleeve pipe 28 such as first end cap 24, motor 18, live axle 20, pump 22 and second end cap 26.At last, tumbled with radially inwardly outstanding at the outer surface of end cap 24 and end cap 26 in the end of sleeve pipe 28, generally aiming at assembly 12 and to keep together, and prevents that pump 22 from separating with motor 18.
Alternatively, the pump parts can be assemblied in the sleeve pipe 28, the end tumble and then this assembly be inserted in the housing 14 and be welded on wherein.
The various parts of fuel pump and filter assemblies 10 can be made by any suitable material, such as metal, synthetic, polymeric material or the like. The selection of this material is based on their dimensional stability and the expansion in the petroleum products environment of hot and cold and the repellence of degeneration. The phrase polymer material generally is meant the material of relative HMW synthetic or natural origin, and can comprise thermosetting resin, thermoplastic and synthetic rubber (elastomer).
In operation, be provided to motor 18 from the electric current in any suitable source and provide power and therefore driven pump 22 to give motor 18.When being driven, pump 22 draws fuel oil, the fuel oil that draws of pressurization and passes the fuel oil that fuel outlet 40 is discharged pressurization by its fuel filler 38.Any suitable conduit (figure does not show) can be used that 42 upstream side is sent to inlet 66 with the fuel oil of pressurization in the filter chamber to pass housing inlet 52 from pump 22.Under pressure, fuel oil passes its outer surface and flows in the filter 16, passes filter 16 and pass its internal surface outflow filter 16.From filter 16, fuel oil is in flow inlet and outlet chamber, the downstream side of filter chamber 42 68.Then, the fuel oil of filter-press passes fuel flow returns portion 54 and outlet 56 and flows out housing 14.
In a word, provide access 38 and basic the flowing of outlet 40 fuel oils of having eliminated to pass motor chamber 70 basically at the place, end of pump assembly 12, motor 18 occupies in sleeve pipe 28 in this motor chamber. Therefore, this structure decrease the resistance that rotates of motor 18 with the windage loss that reduces fuel oil and too much heat.Yet, can be contemplated that some fuel oils can leak or flow in addition in the motor chamber 70, such as along axle 20 or pass steam purification (purge) porthole (figure do not show) of pump 22.But, the fuel oil of this relatively small number amount can be used with cooling motor 18, and passes one or more small channels of being provided between sleeve pipe 28 and other pump parts (figure does not show) and can evaporate and maybe can give off motor chamber 70 and turn back in the fuel tank (figure does not show). For example, this passage can be provided at any suitable position, such as between the internal diameter of the external diameter of the pump 22 and second outlet cover 26 and pump block pipe or inner walls 28.
Therefore, in normal operation, motor chamber 70 preferably is not a full of liquid fuel oil fully, and moves fuel oil by the general radially outward of centrifugal force that the centrifuge of motor 18 is administered to liquid fuel. This provides the steam obstacle that is close to motor 18 when heavier liquid fuel quilt when outwards the application of force is away from the motor 18 in the housing 14.Can also recognize at present in order that center on the resistance that the steam obstacle of motor 18 has further reduced motor 18 rotations, the efficient that it has reduced the current draw of motor 18 and has increased fuel oil pump assembly 12.And the pressure that reduces in the motor chamber 70 has been considered to increase the quantity of motor chamber 70 intermediate fuel oil steam, has reduced the resistance of motor 18 rotations.Further, when fuel oil from enter the mouth 38 pass fuel oil pump assembly 12 by, pass pump 22 and pass outlet 40 the time, less heat transfer is to being sent in the motor fuel oil of (figure does not show). The ground that suits the requirements, this can reduce at fuel oil and is sent to the formation of motor intermediate fuel oil steam and also can reduces formation at fuel tank intermediate fuel oil steam.
Fuel pump and filter assemblies 10 can be used as independently, and product maybe can be incorporated into the fuel pump module to be used at fuel tank.More particularly, Fig. 4 to Fig. 8 illustrates some additional, specific and exemplary uses for fuel pump and filter assemblies 10.
Fig. 4 illustrates fuel pump in the present preferred form that is incorporated into fuel pump module 100 and another present preferred form of filter assemblies 110.These devices are in many aspects similar in appearance to the device of Fig. 1 to Fig. 3, and the similar numeral between describing in spreading all over several views of accompanying drawing refers generally to similar or corresponding element of generation. In addition, the description of common subject matter can be generally in this repetition.
Fuel pump can comprise as with respect to identical fuel oil pump assembly of describing among Fig. 1 to Fig. 3 12 and filter 16 with filter assemblies 110, still can comprise some different housing 114 slightly.Housing 114 comprises the fuel tank mounting flange as first end wall 144, and comprises second end wall 146, outer side wall 148 and madial wall 150, and wherein filter chamber 142 is limited to therebetween.
Unlike the structure of Fig. 3, the structural diagrams shown in Fig. 4 the madial wall 150 of sleeve pipe 28 and housing 14 be independent parts.Thereby fuel oil pump assembly 12 can be press fit in the madial wall 150 of housing, makes the fuel oil pump assembly 12 that comprises sleeve pipe 28 by housing 14 carryings or in addition by housing 14 supports.Press fit can make the good contact between sleeve pipe 28 and madial wall 150 become may be to guarantee the good transfer of heat that is used for cooling motor 18 betwixt. In addition, the sleeve pipe 28 of fuel oil pump assembly 12 can further be linked on the housing 14, such as being welded to continuously on the madial wall 150 along circumference, and/or in end wall 144 and the end wall 146 one or two.
The unique construction of fuel pump and filter assemblies 110 makes its quilt be linked fuel tank F and extend fuel tank F becomes possibility.More particularly, mounting flange 144 makes module 100 hang such as the upper wall of case from the wall T of fuel tank F becomes possibility. This is impossible to the traditional fuel pump module of typical case, because the pressure in the motor chamber leaves the first end of fuel oil pump assembly with application of force fuel-steam and enters in the air.
But for present fuel pump and filter assemblies 10 and fuel pump and filter assemblies 110, a considerable amount of liquid fuels do not pass motor chamber 70 and are sucked, and the second end 32 that motor chamber 70 is passed fuel oil pump assembly 12 is discharged into around the inboard of fuel tank F, is discharged among the fuel tank F to allow any fuel-steam.In other words, the first end 30 of fuel oil pump assembly 12 does not pass wherein exhaust fuel vapors and passes it does not have significant pressure reduction. Therefore, the first end 30 of fuel oil pump assembly 12 can extend fuel tank F as shown in Figure 4, for example when fuel pump and filter assemblies 110 are installed in the opening of fuel tank F by the mounting flange 144 as the part of fuel pump module 100.Therefore, fuel tank F outside distribution is connected to fuel oil pump assembly 12 and has eliminated in the fuel tank F of needs to(for) the distribution of second costliness.
