Abstract

本发明提供一种显示装置,是在具备电流驱动型发光组件的显示装置中,防止供给至设于各像素的发光组件的电流的变动,并消除显示亮度不均。其设置有用以产生对应影像数据(SR)而使一定期间的脉冲宽度为可变设定的脉冲宽度调变信号(SRP)的脉冲宽度调变电路(10);用以产生对应脉冲宽度调变信号(SRP)的脉冲电流(I)的电流产生电路(20)。该脉冲电流(I)系通过各像素的像素选择用TFT(薄膜晶体管thin film transistor)(51、52)供给至电流驱动型发光组件(L1、L2)。脉冲电流I不会受到各像素的制造、加工不均的影响,且其稳定且恒定,因此可消除显示亮度不均,并提升显示品质。

本发明关于一种具备电流驱动型发光组件的显示装置。
背景技术
第3图显示一般的主动矩阵型的显示装置的一像素的电路图。第3图中,在栅极线1与漏极线2的各交差点配置有像素。3系N沟道型的像素选择用TFT(thin film transistor),4系N沟道型的驱动用TFT,5系电流驱动型发光组件(例如LED组件或有机EL组件、无机EL组件),6系补助电容。
像素选择TFT3系在供给至栅极线1的选择信号(垂直扫描信号)成为高位准时导通,并将供给至漏极线2的模拟影像数据供给至到驱动用TFT4的栅极。该模拟影像数据系藉由补助电容6仅保持一水平期间。而且,驱动用TFT4系将对应于模拟影像数据的电流从电源PVdd供给至电流驱动型发光组件5。电流驱动型发光组件5系藉由对应来自驱动用TFT4的供给电流而自发光,以进行对应模拟影像数据的显示。(专利文献1)日本特开2000-214800号公报
发明内容
(发明所欲解决的课题)
然而,由于供给至电流驱动型发光组件5的供给电流系藉由设于各像素的驱动用TFT4而产生,因此该供给电流会因制造上所产生的驱动用TFT5的阈值电压的不均而有大的变动。因此,在由多个像素所构成的显示画面会产生显示不均的问题。
(解决课题的手段)
于是,本发明的显示装置系具备:用以产生对应影像数据而使一定期间的脉冲宽度为可变设定的脉冲宽度调变信号的脉冲宽度调变电路;用以产生对应前述脉冲宽度调变信号的脉冲电流的电流产生电路;以及藉由前述脉冲电流而发光的多个电流驱动型发光组件。
(发明的效果)
依据本发明,供给至各像素的电流驱动型发光组件的电流,并非藉由设于各像素的驱动用TFT而产生,而是藉由设于像素外部的电流产生电路产生成对应脉冲宽度调变信号的脉冲电流,因此整体像素稳定且恒定,不会有显示不均的情形,且不会产生画面整体的亮度不均或各发光组件的不均匀的发光,而可获得均匀的画面整体的一定发光亮度,因而可使显示品质提升。
且在习知发光组件的驱动方法中,为了依各像素将蓄积电荷电压进行电流转换,必须在各像素内设置多个TFT及连接配线,而会造成各像素的高开口率化的障碍,但根据本发明,因设于各像素的TFT为1个,故可谋求大幅改善开口率。
再者,本发明系从外部供给一定电流的驱动方式,故设置于各像素的TFT亦只要满足各像素选择功能即可,因此TFT只要具有可进行最小限度的电流传送的尺寸即可,且亦具有可将TFT的制造(加工)过程的不均的影响抑制在最小限度的效果。
而且,根据本发明,由于发光电流在整体画面上变得均匀,且可使整体画面的发光组件的寿命劣化一定化·均匀化,因此可实现长时间的均质的画像品质。

具体实施方式
其次,参照图式说明本发明实施形态的显示装置。第1图系该显示装置的电路图。影像数据包含有对应R(红色)、G(绿色)、B(蓝色)的各色的影像数据,但在此为了简化说明仅就对应于R的显示装置的部分进行说明。对应G的影像数据SG、对应SB的部分亦为相同的构成。
10系将具有对应色阶数的位数的影像数据SR,转换为对应该影像数据SR的大小使一定期间的脉冲宽度为可变的脉冲宽度调变信号SRP的脉冲宽度调变电路。
20系用以产生对应前述脉冲宽度调变信号SRP的脉冲电流I的电流产生电路。在该电流产生电路20中,M1系对源极施加电源电压PVcc,并连接有栅极及漏极的P沟道型MOS晶体管,M2系对源极施加电源电压PVcc,且栅极共通连接在P沟道型MOS晶体管M1的栅极的P沟道型MOS晶体管。此等P沟道型MOS晶体管M1、M2系构成电流镜电流供给电路部。
M3系为漏极连接在P沟道型MOS晶体管M1的漏极,源极接地且对栅极施加电流选择信号CS的N沟道型MOS晶体管,且系为对P沟道型MOS晶体管M1供给电流的电流源晶体管。M4系为将源极连接在P沟道型MOS晶体管M2的漏极,且对栅极施加脉冲宽度调变信号SRP的N沟道型MOS晶体管,并将对应脉冲宽度调变信号SRP的脉冲电流I从漏极输出至电流供给线25。
亦即,电流选择信号CS为高位准时,仅在脉冲宽度调变信号SRP为高位准的脉冲期间,与经由电流镜(Current mirror)流至N沟道型MOS晶体管M3的电流相等、或与该电流成正比的大小的脉冲电流I会流至N沟道型MOS晶体管M4。
而且,在电流供给线25连接有对应于切换信号SW0、*SW0(*SW0为SW0的反向信号)进行切换,且将脉冲电流I供给至漏极线41的转移栅极(transfer gate)31。切换信号SW0、*SW0系水平扫描信号,且由未图标的水平驱动电路所供给。
在漏极线41与栅极线40的交点附近,配置有构成显示面板的像素区域的像素GS1。像素GS1系具有像素选择用TFT51及电流驱动型发光组件L1(例如LED组件或有机EL组件)。乃去除了习知的驱动用TFT。在像素选择用TFT51的栅极连接有栅极线40,并将垂直扫描信号从未图标的垂直驱动电路供给至栅极线40。像素选择用TFT51系对应垂直扫描信号进行切换,并将来自漏极线41的脉冲电流I供给至电流驱动型发光组件L1。
在电流供给线25连接有对应于切换信号SW1、*SW1(*SW1为SW1的反向信号)进行切换,且将脉冲电流I供给至漏极线42的转移栅极32。切换信号SW1、*SW1亦为水平扫描信号。
在漏极线42与栅极线40的交点附近,同样地配置有构成显示面板的显示区域的像素GS2。像素GS2系与像素GS1同样地具有像素选择用TFT72及电流驱动型发光组件L2(例如LED组件或有机EL组件)。另外,在第1图中仅表示一对像素GS1、GS2,但在实际的显示装置中,同样构成的像素系配置在列方向及行方向。
其次说明该显示装置的动作。目前电流选择信号CS在高位准时,电流产生电路20系呈活性化状态。且仅在脉冲宽度调变信号SRP为高位准的脉冲期间,与经由电流镜(current mirror)流至N沟道型MOS晶体管M3的电流相等、或与该电流成正比的大小的脉冲电流I会输出至电流供给线25。
再者,切换信号SW0为高位准时,该脉冲电流I系通过转移栅极31供给至漏极线41,并通过像素选择用TFT51供给至电流驱动型发光组件L1。由此,电流驱动型发光组件L1会以与脉冲电流I的期间成正比的发光强度点亮,以进行显示。
如此,根据本实施形态,供给至各像素GS1、GS2的电流驱动型发光组件L1、L2的电流,并非藉由设于各像素的驱动用TFT而产生,而是藉由设于像素外部的电流产生电路20产生成对应脉冲宽度调变信号SRP的脉冲电流I,因此可从同一电源供给源获得共通的电流供给,而得到画面整体稳定且恒定的发光亮度,并消除显示不均,不会产生画面整体的的亮度不均或各发光组件的不均匀的发光,而可获得均匀的画面整体的一定发光亮度,因而可使显示品质提升。
其次参照第2图说明本发明实施形态的显示装置的整体构成。100系影像信号处理用LSI,且内建有:用以将预定的信号处理施加至从外部供给的RGB的影像数据的处理器101;用以存储经信号处理的影像数据的讯框内存(frame memory)102;用以产生影像信号处理用LSI的各种时序、显示面板200的各种时序信号的时序控制器103;及脉冲宽度调变电路10等。
从外部供给的RGB的影像数据系转换为具有对应色阶数的位数的影像数据,且依每一讯框存储在讯框内存102。而且存储在讯框内存102的影像数据系以预定的时序输出至脉冲调变电路10,且作成RGB的脉冲宽度调变信号。
以脉冲宽度调变电路10作成的RGB的脉冲宽度调变信号系传送至显示面板200。且该脉冲宽度调变信号系藉由设置于显示面板200的电流产生电路20转换为脉冲电流I,并将其供给至各像素。显示面板200系具备水平驱动电路201、垂直驱动电路202、显示区域203及漏极线的预充电电路204等。

Claims (3)

1.一种显示装置,所述显示装置具备:用以产生对应影像数据而使一定期间的脉冲宽度为可变设定的脉冲宽度调变信号的脉冲宽度调变电路;用以产生对应前述脉冲宽度调变信号的脉冲电流的电流产生电路;以及使前述脉冲电流供给至发光组件而发光的多个电流驱动型发光组件。
2.一种显示装置,所述显示装置具备多个像素,各像素具备像素选择用晶体管及连接在该像素选择用晶体管的电流驱动型发光组件;且具备:用以产生对应影像数据而使一定期间的脉冲宽度为可变设定的脉冲宽度调变信号的脉冲宽度调变电路;用以产生对应前述脉冲宽度调变信号的脉冲电流的电流产生电路;并且使前述脉冲电流通过前述像素选择用晶体管供给至前述电流驱动型发光组件。
3.如权利要求1或2的显示装置,其中,前述电流驱动型发光组件系为LED组件、有机EL组件或无机EL组件。
