Boat moved using the feet. The invention relates to a boat moved using the feet. This boat is characterized by a frame mounted on at least one float and carrying a pedal shaft which can be operated by means of the feet and which transmits movement to a pro pulsing propeller.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the floats with broken part; Fig. 3 is a plan, and FIG. 4 is an elevation thereof with part in cross section.
The floats F, which are made of a rolled metal, such as copper or galvanized iron, have tapered ends 5 and are constructed with transverse bulkheads 6 which form watertight compartments. The cross section of the floats is approximately triangular as shown in fig. 4, and the proportion of the length to the width is approximately six, that is, the length of each float is approximately six times its greatest width.
The floats are kept apart from each other, in a parallel position, by a rectangular frame B which is made of metal tubes and to which the floats are fixed by tabs 7.
A triangular frame C, arranged vertically, is erected on the connecting frame B and is maintained and supported by a series of inclined crutches 8. At the lower corner of the frame C is a boss 9 forming a bearing for a shaft. crank 9a with pedals 10.
The crankshaft 9a is rotated by the feet of the operator who is seated on the saddle 11 and the power is transmitted by means of bevel gears 12 to a shaft 13 which has, on its free end, a propulsive propeller 14. To provide sufficient strength on the crank-shaft 9, it is desirable that the ratio of the gears 12 be high enough and that the propeller 14 has a considerable pitch. The boat is steered by means of a rudder 15 attached to a rotating rod 16 which passes through a sleeve 17 attached to the frame C. The rudder 15 is moved by means of handles 18 attached to the end of the rod 16 .
The rear end of the boat is covered or decked, as shown in dotted lines in fig. 3, to carry luggage or the like, or to accommodate a seat for a passenger.
There is shown in the drawing, a boat tine to an operator, but the length of the floats can be increased and the frame C with the transmission can be repeated to receive a second operator in tandem.
