Cabinet for typewriter . The present invention relates to a typewriter machine cabinet. There are already pieces of furniture which include a movable shelf supporting the machine and allowing it to be stored in a housing provided inside the furniture.
According to the present invention, the shelf is connected to the upper part of the housing by oscillating arms forming on each side an articulated parallelogram, thanks to which the shelf can be moved while being kept parallel to itself.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, an embodiment of the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of Pen-, seemingly of the piece of furniture, the shelf being retracted into the housing; There fig. 2 is a vertical section through the furniture and the tablet in the working position; the dotted line indicates the rest position; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the shelf and the suspension components in the working position, with a variant of the release device.
1 designates the top of the table and 2 the mobile tablet intended to carry the typewriter.
On each side are placed two suspension arms a and b articulated in 3 and 4 on the table, and in 5 and 6 on the tablet, the points 3, 4, 5, 6 being arranged at the tops of a para llelogram. As a result the shelf will always remain horizontal whatever the position of the arms a and b.
The arms a are angled and have an extension o.
Springs, serving to compensate for the weight of the tablet and of the typewriter machine that it will support, are placed on the mother next : Cleats or supports 7, fixed below the table and to which are articulated the arms of the parallelogram each carry a bearing 8 serving of support to an annular stop 9; through this one can slide a rod 10, articulated in 11 to the arm a. The end of this rod opposite to -the stop 9 is threaded over a certain length, and carries a nut 12.
Between the stop 9 and the nut 12 is disposed a spring 13; when the rod 10 slides - in the stopper 9, the spring is compressed # by the nut 12 which moves with the rod 10.
Suppose the shelf is in its lower position : The articulation points 3 on the table, 11 on the arm a and 14 on the landing < B> 8 are then arranged in a straight line. The nut 12, moved with the rod 10 during the rotation of the arm a occupies its position closest to the stop. In this position, the compression of the spring 13 between the nut and the stopper is maximum, but since the articulation points are in a straight line, the moment exerted on the shelf by the spring is zero. As, on the other hand, the 5 and 6 points of the tablet are located vertically below the 3 and 4 suspension points, gravity has no tendency to move the tablet. It is therefore in equilibrium.
As soon as the tablet is moved to be brought to its high position, the weight of the tablet and of the machine, on the one hand, the springs 13, on the other hand , will produce opposing moments. As and to the lifting of the tablet, the moment due to gravity will increase. As the articulation 11 of the arm a will deviate from the straight line3-14, the moment produced by the action of the springs will increase at in its turn to the ferret to measurement of the lifting of the shelf despite the gradual decrease in the tension of these springs.
It will suffice that the tension of the springs 13 is suitably adjusted to using the nuts 12, so that the balance is achieved substantially in all the positions of the shelf loaded with the typewriter.
In order to maintain the shelf both in the upper position and in the lower position, locking devices have been provided which are placed partly on the table and partly on the arms a.
For this purpose, the extension c of each arm a is provided at its end with a pawl 15 pressed towards the arm by a spring or a counterweight and fitted with a 16 tail or pedal (fig. 2). On a crossbar 17 arranged to screen the legs of the table is fixed a keeper 18 intended to serve as a stop for the ratchet 15 in the upper position of the shelf. As soon as it arrives in the indicated position, the pawl engages automatically behind the keeper 18 under the action of its spring or its counterweight.
To release the ratchet, it will suffice to press with with the foot on the tail 16, after which the shelf with its load can be lowered.
To maintain the shelf in this low position, a hook 19 integral with a spring 20 is fixed below the shelf. In addition, the crossbar 17 carries a chin bar 21, behind which the hook 19 engages under the action of the spring 20 when the shelf reaches its lower position.
To facilitate the triggering of the device when the shelf is in the high position, the device shown in fig. 3.
The two pawls 15, intended to engage behind the strikers 18, are formed by two levers to two arms, integral with a pin 22 which brings together the extended ends c of the bent arms a. The trigger is by by hand at using a pull button 23 placed at the front of the shelf and connected by a rod 24 to a lever 25 which swivels under the shelf. The free end of this lever acts on the tail 16 of one of the pawls 15 by means of a lever 26, a rod 27, a swing arm 28 and another rod 29.
When the button is pulled 23, the pawl 15 is lifted and released from the keeper 18. It goes Without saying that the invention comprises any other embodiment of the devices serving to start and to start the table.
It should be observed that the prolonged c arms a form struts which support the shelf rigidly when it is taken out of the housing. This rigidity also results from the fact that the parallelogram 3, 4, 5, 6 is not completely closed, as could occur if the tablet a had to be lifted to table level b.
The means serving to balance the weight of the machine can be constituted by counterweights, connected to the articulated parallelograms in such a way that they are obliged of lower when raising the shelf and raise when lowering it.
To ensure balance in all positions, the counterweights can be carried by levers oscillating around an axis placed * at the bottom of the housing and linked to the arms a so to move from one side to the other. same angle as these, but in the opposite direction, and remaining parallel to them, so that the moments of the different weights cry in play vary according to the same law as a function of the angles.
Such a connection can be made by gears or chains or rods, etc. However, balancing by springs such as 13 will generally be preferable because it is less bulky and lighter.
