La fig. 1 est un schéma montrant en coupe latérale l'ensemble du moteur; La fig. 2 est une vuede détail à plus grande échelle montrant en coupe verticale la culassedu cylindre de pompe, un organe de distribution de la pompe et la soupape d'échappement et l'extrémité voisine du con duitde réchauffage, cette coupe étant faite par un plan perpendiculaireà l'axe du vile brequin; La fig. 3 est une coupe verticale par la ligne3-3 de lafi-. 2, la position de la coupe dans le plan horizontal étant indiquée par la ligne3-3 dela fig. 4;
Internal combustion engine with air heater. The object of the invention is an internal combustion engine with air heater, charac terized by at least one heating duct periodically placed in communication by one of its ends, alternately with a to charge air pump and with a atmospheric pressure pump, and the other end of which opens into the engine cylinder, so that the exhaust gases leaving said cylinder through run in one direction and that the air discharged by the pump in this cylinder passes through it in the opposite direction, and thus the heat received by this duct is transferred to the air supplied to the cylinder,
the mixture of air thus heated and the fuel being carried out near the connection of this duct to the engine cylinder, so that all the heated air mass mixes with the fuel when entering this cylinder, and the movements of the air pump piston and engine cylinder piston are offset by so that a rise in pressure would occur in this cylinder during the first part of the driving stroke of its piston, even without combustion of the fuel mixed with air < B> to its entry into the engine cylinder.
The. accompanying drawing represents, to by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a diagram showing the entire engine in side section; Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail view of showing in vertical section the cylinder head of the pump cylinder, a pump distribution member and the exhaust valve and the the end adjacent to the reheating duct, this cut being made by a plane perpendicular to the axis of the brequin vessel; Fig. 3 is a vertical section through line 3-3 of fi-. 2, the position of the section in the horizontal plane being indicated by the line 3-3 of the fig. 4;
The fi (y. 4 is a horizontal section by the line 4-4 of fig. 3, showing the arrangement of the distribution members in the cylinder head of the pump; Fig. 5 is a horizontal section through the heater, its connections with the pump cylinder and the engine cylinder, and the arrangement of, the fuel inlet valve.
The motor shown in in fig. 1 is designed to run on liquid fuel and is provided with a single engine cylinder A, with a single pump cylinder B and a single C heating duct between these cylinders.
The engine cylinder and the pump cylinder have dimensions such that the strokes of the pistons being equal, the ratio of the areas of piston is 2, - for the engine piston D, </ B > to 1 for the pump piston E. The D and E pistons are respectively connected to ii), tiii- vels F and FI of the crankshaft P and the angle between the cranks is of 50 ', with the level FI of the piston of pump Ee shifted back from the crank F of the engine piston D. The relative dimensions of the cylinders A and B may differ from those indicated, as may the angle between the F and FI cranks,
so that the degree of rebound or the ratio of compression to rebound may also differ. The angle of advance of the small crank F vary between 500 and 70 ".
The reheat or preheater pipe C extends between an opening of the cylinder head of the pump cylinder B and an opening of the cylinder head of the engine cylinder. L. All the distribution members are grouped together on the cylinder head of the pump cylinder B. These members corner the intake slide G, the discharge or passage slide 11, both of which are mounted directly on the cylinder head, and the J exhaust valve which is positioned close near the passage spool H.
The discharge end of the C conduit terminates in the narrow part of a .41 funnel-shaped extension. of the cylinder block -4. The narrow part of this extension practically forms the end of the pipe C and it is there that the fuel injection device K is located, using which the fuel can be sent into # end of the duct.
The motor cylinder is water-cooled , as seen at L, and the pump cylinder is water, shown at H, the latter water jacket being extended around the drawers of ad mission and passage G ' and H.
The G and R drawers are of the with piston type and both of similar construction. If we take as an example the passage slide H which is shown in detail in fig. 2 and also in fig. 4, this drawer includes a RI cylinder which is held between two end pistons El and R3 by a bolt R ' to one end of which is attached the bar H 'of an eccentric B " mounted on ni) shaft AI. On the cylinder El there are two similar rings R \ and Rs,
each disposed between one of the end members -H2 and H3 and one of the two annular ribs RO formed on the cylinder R on either side of the middle of its length.
The drawer receives a back and forth movement in a cylinder, 0, of which one end 0 ' is closed. In the wall of the cylinder are two annular rows of lights 0'- 'and 01 not very distant from each other, the ports 02 coinciding with a duct B' crossing the cylinder head B2 of the cylinder B and with mid annular space B3 communicating with the duct B '.
The second annular row of lights 01 coincides with a light ci which starts from the end C2 of the led - iffage and communicates with titi annular space CI. The annular space surrounding the cylinder HI of the drawer between the ribs R 'has dimensions chosen so to allow lights 02 and 0-1 to be discovered soiiiiiii-ily,
so that the air coming from cylinder B can flow through the ductBlet the 0 "lights in the cylinder 0 and from there through the lights 01 and the light CI < / B> in the rebreather C. The inlet spool Cr is of blunt construction and has a GI cylinder held between end members G2 # GI to I am using Lin GI bolt which is connected by a rod G 'to Lin eccentric
G 'mounted on ParbreN. The intake spool receives titi reciprocating movement in titi cylinder P whose end Pl can be opened,
slums that in the wall of the cylinder are lights the air inlet Q. Fig. 4 shows that the duct BI starting from cylinder B extends transversely under these two valves and communicates with the annular rows of lights 02 and -Pl. The air coming do the entry Q therefore enters the cylinder B through the ports P2, Pl and the conduit BI and, afterwards.
compression, it flows, as it has just been said, through the lights 02 # 03 towards the -reater.
The assembly of the exhaust valve J is clearly shown to in fig. 2. The valve is mounted on a JI stem and is spring closed. The opening of the valve is produced by a double cam R mounted on the N shaft and acting on a bottom lever with two arms J 2 # which swivels in P. The R cam is double, as the pitch and intake drawers work to put air in the cylinder B and pass the compressed air through the heater C, twice at each revolution of shaft Y which is therefore put rotating with half the speed of the crankshaft.
If we refer to fig. 5, we see that the fuel valve is mounted at an angle at the end of the reheat duct C, at the place where the latter connects to the narrow extension A ' of the cylinder head A. This end of the C pipe is provided with a lip G ', against which the fuel is launched when leaving the valve.
The fuel valve has a KI box in which there is a cylindrical chamber KI provided with a small outlet of K3. In the chamber KI slides a needle Ii # 4 carried by a piston K 'behind which is a spring II' which tends to maintain the needle K-1 in the orifice K '. The fuel is brought into the chamber KI through an opening TF, located between the piston K5 and the orifice K3,
to which ends with a pipe K 'coming from a pump Kl actuated by a double cam KIO mounted on Parbre N. A pipe KI' for the exhaust of air leaves from chamber KI behind piston K-1. A each stroke of the pump Ii? - __ 1 - 1.
. 1, 1 1 1 1 lifts the needle K 'from its seat in the port K5, and the fuel is launched in a jet into the end of the reheating duct C. The moment when the fuel is injected is preferably when the piston D of the engine cylinder A has affected a part of its corresponding stroke to a movement of the crank F of approximately 150 to from neutral, so that the air flowing through the reheater C into the cylinder motor has appreciable speed.
The heater is heated by a lamp or other suitable device for starting the engine, the construction being such that thereafter the necessary heat is maintained automatically. As the most intense heat zone is at the end of the duct C, which is close to the motor endre A, the J exhaust valve and the heater body are at protected from excessive temperatures. In addition, thanks to the grouping of all the distribution members at the end of the pipe C close to the pump, the mechanical control of these organs is facilitated and these organs are hand held in a cold region.
These conditions are very favorable for the use of heavy oils as fuel, because the fuel is injected into a current of hot air moving very quickly, to a temperature which is sufficient to produce vaporization of the fuel thereby ensuring ignition, while there is no possibility of detonation occurring since there is no compression of the fuel mixture.
The engine operates in the to two-stroke cycle with high average pressures and is able to use heavy oil without causing difficulties due to sweeping. These high average pressures are obtained with relatively low maximum temperatures because the fuel is burnt in such a way that the density is uniformly low, while, when the fuel is injected directly into the cylinder, although the temperature riably as a result of high local density.
