Electrically operated device for polishing flat surfaces. The claim of the main patent relates to an electrically operated apparatus for polishing flat surfaces, comprising a rotary polishing tool and an electric motor for co ' Romande of the latter-, in combination with a frame serving as a support for, this electric motor and which, in the working position of the device, is arranged to be supported, with, the parts that it carries, only, by the tool itself to y exert the pressure necessary for polishing.
According to the present invention, the motor-support frame is provided with a with guide wheels, movable relative to to, itself, arranged to engage permanently with the surface to to be polished and allowing., by means of adjustment, to vary the position in relation to the device relative to to the surface to polish, in order -to allow the use of rotary tools in the form of discs of different thicknesses .1-ifferent and, to compensate for their wear, and in order to allow the displacement -d-uc # - _ntre of gravity of the device in relation to to the base,
support (formed by the wheels of the cliariot) in order to make the pressure act on the tool always -in a direction perpendicular to the working contact plane of the latter.
In the accompanying drawing, & nne to by way of example, FIG. 1 is a side elevational view, and FIG. 2 a front view of an embodiment of the improved apparatus.
1 designates the armored electric motor which drives the rotary tool 10 in the form of a disc through the intermediary of pulling gears enclosed in the housing 6 < / B> at the same time forming a support frame for the engine; with ball joints are indicated in 4 and 5; it is through them that the tool 10 is connected to </ B> one or the other & s motor axes 7 and 7a of the motor, which thus make it possible to obtain two speeds (the rotation of the tool. A bar with handle 9 for manual guidance of the device is mounted on a relatively long arm 9a to allow to, use Pap- pareil on large to polishing surfaces.
The arm ga is fixed to a 8 bracket in the form of U which can pivot on the frame of the apparatus in 11. < / B> and which can be ' fixed in one or more of several different positions.-, to using a pin passing through a hole 12 of the bracket and -in one 4a series of holes 13 made in a sector 14 rigidly fixed to said frame.
The aforementioned guide-carriage is indicated in 15. It is connected to the housing or support frame 6 of the device by pivots 16 </ B> on the same side where the arm Ù is located, handle of z # guide 9, ga, and it carries guide wheels 17 at its lower end, arranged to engage permanently with the surface to polish. The carriage there is formed by means of -two bars placed on the sides of the frame and angled so to to the sprouting, support base -of the wheels 17 -as indicated in fig. 2, the 4th bars being.
connected by an assembly cross member.
The carriage there can be adjusted relative to the device support frame by means of a hand handwheel 18 fixed on -a rotary threaded pin having a right-hand 19 screw thread screwed into a nut (not shown) journalled at 20 on the carriage and a screw thread to left iga screwed in a nut (not shown) journaled at 21 on a small bracket rigidly fixed to the frame 6. The carriage is lowered there </ B > by turning the handwheel 18 clockwise and it is raised in relation to the frame 6 by turning the handwheel 18 in reverse order.
In the arrangement described, when the wheels 17 are raised or lowered, they approach or move away, -da-us the sense of height, of the support frame 6. It is, therefore, possible to vary the height (the appliance above the, surface to polish, to use ± 1 discs # tools of ' different- thicknesses and to take account of their wear and, it is also possible to move the center of gravity, of the device, relatively to the support base, formed by the wheels 17, and to increase or decrease the effective weight applied to the tool itself, while keeping it constant, once adjusted.
This height adjustment makes it possible to maintain the pressure axes in the ball joints 4, 5, perpendicular to the contact plane of the tool, an important condition for the correct operation of the device.
The switch serving to the control of the electric motor is mounted at 23 on the guide bar 9 at a point accessible to </ B> the operator; the conductors supplying the motor are placed along the arm 9a.
The connection to ball joint of the tool with one or the other, of the motor axes 7, 7a and the inking train for the two speeds are eliminated. in blis as in the apparatus described and represented in the main patent.
