Electrode steam boiler for operation with high voltage currents. It is known to regulate the performance of electrically operated steam boilers by suspending an insulating tube surrounding each electrode at a considerable distance from a float and lifting the float respectively depending on the desired performance by pumping in or draining boiler water. lowers and so the electrical resistance of the water between the electrode and the counter electrode BEZW. Neutral point serving boiler wall influenced.
In boilers that are fed from electrical high-voltage networks, according to the invention, this control is done automatically in the following way: The electric drive motor for the feed pump used to change the boiler water level does not receive its power via a transformer from the network, but is connected to one in the boiler Connected between the electrode and the boiler wall connected to earth, so that the water resistance of the boiler acts as a voltage divider.
An exemplary embodiment of the boiler is explained using the schematic illustration. The electrode b connected to one network pole is insulated into the tank a. This is surrounded by an insulating cylinder c which is carried by the float d guided on the boiler wall. In the lower part of the boiler, a hollow cylindrical intermediate electrode e is attached to insulators, the upper edge of which extends approximately to the highest level of the insulating cylinder c and at the bottom almost to the boiler floor.
With it, the drive electric motor g of the feed pump f is electrically connected, the other pole of which, like the other network pole and the boiler wall, is connected to earth. The motor g, which is a collector motor, is therefore connected to part of the water resistance located between electrode b and boiler wall a and runs at a speed that corresponds to the voltage drop in part e, a of the water resistance b, a.
If the steam extraction from the boiler increases at h, the pressure in the boiler falls, the feed pump f, g runs faster and delivers more water, so that the float d with the attached insulating cylinder c rises; the water resistance decreases, the current increases and the voltage between e and a increases, causing the pump motor y to run faster again. More water is then pumped until the steam extraction decreases and the counter pressure in the boiler reduces the pump output. In this way, the feed water supply automatically adapts to the steam consumption.
In order to be able to arbitrarily influence the pump output from the outside, a manually adjustable control resistor can be built into the motor circuit or a control valve can be built into the feed line of the boiler or both elements can be attached at the same time; by means of which the correct cooperation of the boiler and pump can also be set with independent operation.
The intermediate electrode does not need to be open at the bottom, as shown, it can have a bottom in accordance with the dash-dotted illustration and be designed as an area equidistant from the inner surface of the boiler. -Uni to allow water to pass through, it can be provided with openings and if necessary made of perforated sheet metal.
