Process and installation for the dry distillation of carbon-based fuels with the production of light hydrocarbons. The invention comprises 1 A process for the production of motor gases by dry distillation and subsequent complete combustion of a carbon-based fuel, with ancillary production of easily condensable light hydrocarbons and ammonia, in which process is carried out. pass part of the gases produced during said combustion, mixed with steam to lower its temperature, from low and) high through the distillation chamber,
with a view to increasing the production of light easily condensable hydrocarbons and to reducing that of tar.
2 A bridge installation - the implementation of the process, comprising a vertical type gasifier, supplied with fuel at its top, and steam and air at its lower part, and shared by a horizontal partition and titi drawer in an upper distillation chamber, which communicates with a condenser and a scrubber, and in a lower combustion chamber, comrnuring with a steam boiler, a blowing machine operating a gas injector by steam in the chamber of distillation.
The appended drawing shows schematically, by way of example, one embodiment of this installation.
-A gasifier d is divided by a horizontal wall a. in two chambers or zones <I> a ', a ='. </I> The upper chamber <I> a '</I> is the distillation hull, it receives the coal through the loading hopper B. The lower chamber a "is the combustion chamber, it receives the coke which forms at the bottom of the chamber a 'as and when required when opening the distribution spool C.
A steam inlet nozzle D is placed at the bottom of the combustion chamber a; to bring the steam produced into a boiler E, heated by the hot gases which escape from the chamber a 'by an upper pipe F opening into an internal compartment f of the steam boiler E: These gases, after having abandoned a large part of their heat, are conducted outside by a pipe f '.
Above the boiler L is placed a blower machine CT which discharges part of the steam produced through the injector H dan, the lower part of the distillation chamber a '; above, us a curved grid a3 on which the coal falls. The pipe of the injector t_st connected to the gas pipe F, by the branch / "-, so that part of the gases is mixed with the steam which enters the chamber a '.
The gaseous products of the distillation in chamber a 'escape through pipe J and pass through coil j into cooler j'. The condensable tars and hydrocarbons are collected in the containers <I> k </I> and k ', while the condensable gas lion passes through the scrubber or washer L fitted with a sprayer head distributor l and a gas outlet pipe connected to a gasometer, a furnace or a gas engine as required.
The scrubber L also receives the re-cooled gases leaving the steam boiler E through the duct f 'leading to the scrubber.
In the operation of the apparatus as shown, all the gases formed in the lower combustion chamber a or strongly heated zone are extracted through pipes F, <I> f '</I> and <I> f </I> and the greater part, after washing in the scrubber or washer L, is supplied or led to the engines or combustion apparatus, while the part intended for the production of condensable hydrocarbons is mixed with steam through injector H:
this mixture, at a temperature of about 50 ° C., is introduced into the upper chamber a 'of the gasifier. 1, below the grid a3. The temperature is such that the mixture of gas and vapor reacts with the fuel in the distillation chamber a ', and by such a reaction combined with the distillation of the fuel, it is found that the vapors exiting through the pipe J at the top of the bedroom,
are very condensable. Part of the ammonia can be separated from the gases before they are reintroduced into the cooling chamber or zone a ', the remainder being extracted from the vapors leaving this chamber a' in the scrubber L.
As the fuel descends from chamber a ', it is gradually heated by the hydrocarbon mixture of gas and steam and its temperature rises until it reaches the vicinity of the grate. at'; it u <B> 1 5 </B> is at this moment in the state of coke which is admitted, as required, by the opening of the distributor drawer C at the top of the chamber a. The carbon is completely transformed in this chamber, and only the ash and the slag can pass, through the grate a4, into the lower ashtray, in which circulates ni) air stream created by the steam jet D.
In the construction of the gasifier as shown, passages or conduits a 'are formed in the walls of the gas producer <I> 0, </I> and in these conduits, air may be heated in view to promote combustion, if desired. The upper chamber may be in molten iron or worked with facing bricks and have ducts as, through which a mixture of air and gas can be introduced to heat the walls of the chamber and prevent the temperature of the latter from rising. go down too low.
A screw a 'can be placed above the grid a3, in order to break up any blocks of charcoal which might clump together and a scraping iron a.8 is placed above the lower grid a4. When the appliance is running, the combustion chamber a2 is filled with glue which is ignited with the help of wood. When the coke has been turned red, vapor is allowed into the gas generator. When the coke is ignited; the upper chamber a 'is filled with coal and the mixture of gas and steam is admitted.
The operation continues in this way as long as coal is introduced at B and this partially burnt or coke-reduced coal is admitted to the leak, and as needed at the top of the <I> gas </I> generator. =.
Instead of removing from the gasifier all the gases formed in the lower zone and reintroducing the required quantity into the upper zone, this quantity could rise directly through the cooling zone. Steam is introduced in sufficient quantity. desired point, for example at the lower part of the upper third of the gasifier, in order to bring the temperature to the suitable degree and thus to carry out the reactions at a lower temperature. In this case the cc partition between the two rooms or zones can be removed.
Instead of a steam jet D, a blower can be used to introduce the mixture of air and steam at low pressure. 11L the outlet port J vapors and gases can be drawn in with weak suction.
The bottom of the gasifier can be closed, instead of allowing the fuel to come to be placed on a grid a 'as shown; in this case, the air and steam are introduced through suitable pipes, opening into the hot zone and the gasifier is provided with a discharge orifice which, at certain intervals, can be opened for the exit of the ashes and slag.
