Process and device for the regeneration of the (@ necksilbei-5 salts used in the manufacture of full acetaldehyde by the addition of water or acetylene. Up to now, only in the production of acetaldehyde by the addition of water to acetylene in the presence of mercury, the salts gradually salt their catalytic
Mercury salts that lose their effectiveness are converted back into catalytically active salt in a special regeneration process.
According to the invention, for the same end purpose, the acidic reaction liquid containing the mercury salts is treated with an electric current.
In doing so, it makes sense to work with larger quantities of mercury salt than was previously * usual. This significantly increases the rate of absorption of acetylene, because the reduction in the amount of mercury salt, which increases with increasing concentration, is compensated for by reoxidation of the mercury collecting at the anode to form catalytically active mercury salt.
The hydrogen formed can be removed from the reaction space during the reaction. Mercury is used as the anode. The mercury, anodically oxidized by the electrical current, is converted into catalytically active mercury salt through the acidic solution.
It is therefore up to you to anodically oxidize just enough mercury anodically by suitable regulation of the amperage so that the mercury salt required to carry out the addition is always present in the solution, so that: continuously without supplying fresh catalyst tors can be worked.
The anode can, for example, be arranged on the bottom of the vessel so that the mercury which is excreted through reduction comes into contact with the anode rrrul:>.
In order to remove the hydrogen formed from the reaction chamber during operation, venting nozzles for the hydrogen are arranged above the electrodes and reaching into the electrolyte.
If the cathode is also made of mercury, then alternating current can be used as the electrical current. Example 1: 1 liter of 10% sulfuric acid, 100 g of mercury oxide and about 400 g of metallic mercury as an anode are placed in the anode compartment of an apparatus equipped with a diaphragm and a stirrer.
Excess acetylene is introduced into the hot solution at 70 ° C. with stirring, which is circulated in a known manner, the acetaldehyde formed being withdrawn from the gas stream through suitable absorption devices. At the same time, you conduct an electrical current of about 1 amp. Through the solution, using a lead rod as a cathode, which is located in your porous porcelain tube. The acetylene absorption is very intense under these conditions and can be continued continuously for a very long time at an approximately uniform rate. The hydrogen is derived from the cathode compartment.
Example 2: 1 liter of water is mixed with 150 grams of mercury oxide and 150-200 grams of mercury sulfate. Acetylene is introduced in excess into the 70-80 o hot reaction liquid while maintaining the above-mentioned apparatus and an electrical current of 0.5-1.0 amps is fed in using a platinum anode that extends to the lowest point of the apparatus . The metallic mercury that accumulates in the course of the process is anodically oxidized again at the same time, and there is always enough catalyst in the reaction liquid.
Example 3: 1 liter of about 10% H2S0-i and 500 g of mercury are placed in a stirrer as anode. A rod made of lead or other suitable metal, respectively, which is dipped in the acid serves as the cathode. Metal alloy. A sufficient amount of mercury salt is now generated by electrolysis and then excess acetylene is introduced into the 70-80 o hot reaction liquid with stirring, which is then circulated in a known manner, the acetaldehyde formed being passed through suitable absorption devices to the gas stream withdraws.
At the same time an electrical current of about 1 amp. Is introduced. From time to time the hydrogen, which is enriched in the circulating gas stream, is gradually removed and the apparatus is filled with pure acetylene.
Example r-: In a stirrer, on the bottom of which there are two suitable depressions for receiving the two electrodes, which in this case consist of metallic mercury, 1 liter brings about 10% sulfuric acid.
A sufficient amount of mercury salt is now generated by introducing an alternating current and then, while stirring, excess acetylene is introduced into the 70-80 o hot reaction liquid, which is circulated at a known distance, where the acetaldehyde formed is added to the gas through suitable absorption devices withdraws electricity. At the same time, an alternating current of around 1 amp is initiated. From time to time the hydrogen gradually accumulating in the circulating stream is removed, and the apparatus is filled with pure acetylene.
