The invention relates to a safety syringe and more particularly to a syringe which retracts the needle cannula into the cylinder after an injection is completed and then fixes the cannula in the cylinder. (2) Description of the Related Art:
Spraying is an essential part of any medical treatment. To prevent accidental serum infection with a contagious disease, disposable syringes are commonly used to prevent any syringe from being reused. Nevertheless, inappropriate handling of the disposable syringes after use has continued to be observed, and there has always been the potential for infection by a disposable disease from accidental injury to the medical staff or cleaning personnel by the discarded needle cannula. Therefore, the measures for storing the discarded needle cannula and avoiding accidental infection caused by cannula injury are nowadays important issues with concomitant improvement in syringe structure.
After an injection, the needle cannula is generally immediately withdrawn into the barrel and stored therein for further handling. For example, Taiwanese Utility Model Publication No. 165304 teaches an improved safety syringe structure in which both parts of a mating pair are associated with the extruding ring at the end of the cylinder and the pushing piston rod at the top of the punch; by providing the mating pair, the injection head may be engaged with the needle cannula with the squeezing piston rod and may then be retracted to be fully stored in the cylinder after an injection.
In Taiwanese Utility Model Publication No. 356,720, there is disclosed a safety syringe in which a threaded portion is inserted at the lower end of the needle cannula to be engaged with a small protruding block at the top of the stamper to force the needle cannula into the cylinder after use withdraw. Brief description of the invention
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a safety syringe that can support the needle cannula after an injection in the cylinder to avoid accidental infection caused by being pricked by the needle cannula.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a safety syringe in which the needle cannula can be effectively anchored in the cylinder to prevent inadvertent exposure of the needle cannula and thus the possibility of personal infection or injury caused by a needle stick , to reduce.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a safety syringe that has advantages in terms of simple structure, convenience, and ease of manufacture.
In order to achieve all of the above objects, the safety syringe of the present invention comprises a cylinder, a punch, a needle set and a needle sheath. The punch has a rubber piston disposed at one end thereof, and the rubber piston includes a conical rod extruded from a surface thereof. The needle set includes an adapter with a conical hole thereon, and the conical hole is surrounded by a plurality of clip means. After an injection, the conical rod of the rubber piston can be engaged with the conical hole of the needle set. This allows the needle set to be pulled completely into the cylinder by the punch.
Furthermore, the adapter of the needle set has a projection for tilting the needle set in the cylinder, so that the needle cannula can be in contact with the inner wall of the cylinder to prevent accidental exposure outside of the cylinder. Brief description of the drawings

Description of the preferred embodiment
The invention disclosed herein relates to a safety syringe. In the following description, numerous details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present invention. It will be understood by those skilled in the art that modifications to these specific details are possible while at the same time achieving the results of the present invention. In other instances, well-known components are not described in detail so as not to unnecessarily obscure the present invention.
To simplify the following descriptions, terms with the same application are given the same reference numbers.
Referring now to Fig. 1, there is shown a first embodiment of the safety syringe 1 according to the present invention. The safety syringe 1 is a mid-type syringe with a needle cannula placed directly in the center of the front end of a cylinder. The safety syringe 1 as shown includes a cylinder 2, a punch 3, a needle set 4, and a needle sheath 5.
Referring to Fig. 2, the cylinder 2 is a hollow cylindrical body with both ends open. A front end of the cylinder 2 is structured like a nozzle 21 having a reduced inner diameter. A rear end of the cylinder 2 is formed into a finger flange 22.
Referring to FIG. 3, the punch 3 for collapsing in the cylinder 2 has a front end which supports a rubber piston 31 in which the rubber piston 31 forms a tight contact with the inner wall of the cylinder 2 and can slide in the cylinder 2. A rear end of the punch 3 is formed into a thumb rest 32. The rubber piston 31 further has a conical rod 33 disposed at a middle part of a front surface thereof.
Referring to Figs. 4A-4C, the needle set 4 consists of a needle cannula 41, a needle hub 42 for anchoring the needle cannula 41 and an adapter 43 for receiving the needle hub 42. The needle hub 4 is collapsible in the nozzle 21 of the barrel 2, wherein the needle cannula 41 is exposed outside the cylinder 2.
The needle hub 42 is provided with an external thread 44 for meshing with an internal thread 45 on the adapter 43 as shown in Figs. 4A and 4B.
A rear part of the adapter 43 is formed with a base 46 having a protruding flange. The base 46 further includes a circumferential groove 47 for receiving a rubber seal 48 therein. By providing the rubber seal 48, tight contact between the base 46 of the adapter 43 and the nozzle 21 of the cylinder 2 can be established; as shown in FIGS. 4A and 4B.
The base 46 of the adapter 43 is further formed with a conical hole 49 having a reduced diameter at a bottom thereof. As shown in Fig. 4C, the conical hole 49 is surrounded by a plurality of clip means 50 symmetrically arranged at equal radius intervals. The plurality of clip means 50 are formed with angled portions which drop inwardly to define the profile of the conical hole 49. Furthermore, at a proper location on the base 46 near the conical hole 49, a projection 40 is formed.
The needle sheath 5 shown in Fig. 1 is located outside the nozzle 21 of the cylinder 2 to shield the needle cannula 41 of the needle set 4.
In the above-mentioned embodiment of the safety syringe 1, the conical hole 49 is located in the center of the base 46 of the adapter 43, with the needle cannula 41 and the needle hub 42 aligned with the fluid passage and the conical hole 49 of the adapter 43. Thus, in the needle set 4, a mean injection fluid route can be established; as shown in Fig. 4A.
Referring to Figs. 5A to 5C, a complete application stroke of the safety syringe 1 according to the present invention is shown. At the beginning of an injection stroke, the punch 3 is first pushed forward (as shown in Fig. 5A). Then, at the time when the punch 3 reaches an end position, the tapered rod 33 can be received in the tapered hole 49 of the adapter 43. An engagement may be formed between the punch 3 and the needle set 4 when the angle portions of the plurality of clip means 50 lock the tapered rod 33, so that the tapered rod 33 can be prevented from being detached and firmly held in the tapered hole 49 becomes. Upon completion of the engagement, the punch 3 is retracted to pull the needle set 4 through the nozzle 21 into the cylinder 2 (as shown in Fig. 5B).
While the needle set 4 is fully supported in the cylinder 2, a plastic force from the rubber piston 31 of the punch 3 pushes the protrusion 40 of the adapter 43 to make the needle set 4 obliquely disposed in the cylinder 2 (as shown in Fig. 5C) ). At this time, by providing the needle set 4 for contacting the inner wall of the cylinder 2, accidental exposure of the needle set 4 can be substantially avoided.
Referring to Figs. 6 to 10C, a second embodiment of the safety syringe 1 according to the present invention is shown. The safety syringe 1 in the second embodiment is obviously a lateral-type syringe with a needle cannula deviating from a centerline of a cylinder.
In this embodiment, the conical hole 49 is still formed in the center of the base 46 of the adapter 43. The only difference with the previous embodiment is that the adapter 43 further includes a through hole 51 aligned with both the needle cannula 41 and the needle hub 42. With the through hole 51 arranged laterally of the conical hole 49, a lateral fluid route is formed as shown in Fig. 9A.
Furthermore, in both of the above-mentioned embodiments, four symmetrically spaced clip means 50 (at an angular interval of 90 degrees) are introduced. As required for other applications (such as when other materials or dimensions are used, for example), a different number of clip means 50 may be used. For example, in the present invention, three clip means 50 (with an angular spacing of 120 degrees) or six clip means 50 (with an angular spacing of 60 degrees) may also be permitted; as shown in Figs. 4D and 9D.
While the present invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to preferred embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and detail may exist without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
