The subject of the invention is a comfort boot essentially made of foam and equipped with an outer frame for a sports shoe such as a ski boot or a skate shoe.
Such a liner is known from patent application WO 96/13183 and from patent EP 0 657 112. In document WO 96/13183 the foam of the liner is thermoformable and provision is made for thermoforming it on a form. The material used such as PE and PVA could be thermoformed on the foot. The thermoforming of a comfort liner in situ on the foot of the user has also been known for many years and it is described in particular in documents such as EP 0 004 829 and JP 246 876.
It is noted that if many inventors are concerned with improving the in situ thermoforming of the foam constituting the liner, the frame has been completely left out. This is probably due to the fact that we have always clearly distinguished and separated the elements of comfort and technique, the foam of the liner belonging to comfort while its frame is a technical element.
Leaving this mode of thinking, the invention aims to improve the adaptation of a comfort shoe provided with a frame to the morphology of the user's foot.
To this end, the comfort liner according to the invention is characterized in that its frame is made of thermoformable material in situ.
The foam could also be made of thermoformable material in situ.
Embodiments are defined in claims 2 to 9. The invention also relates to a method of shaping such a comfort liner, characterized in that the liner provided with its frame in the shoe and that the frame, and if necessary also the foam of the boot, is heated to its VICAT softening temperature, then introduces the foot or a molding of the user's foot into the boot and closes the shoe until that the material of the frame and, if necessary also of the liner, is sufficiently cooled.
Reading document FR 2 739 760 shows how far the idea of thermoforming a reinforcement in situ was far from the mind of the inventors. It is said in fact in this document that we have noticed in a non-obvious way a priori that the direct heating of the lining, that is to say the liner, arranged inside the shoe did not risk damaging or softening the outer rod of the latter. A person skilled in the art was therefore led to fear that heating the liner would also soften its frame.
The invention also aims to define a type of frame whose shape is particularly well suited to the reinforcement of a liner, especially if this frame is intended to be thermoformed in situ.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a slipper provided with its frame.
Fig. 2 shows the frame only.
The boot shown in fig. 1 comprises a rod 1 consisting, in a known manner, of a flexible material coated with a layer of thermoformable synthetic foam, for example a closed cell thermoplastic foam such as PE-tBDL (linear polyethylene) or EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate ), that is to say a low density polyethylene having a relatively low VICAT softening temperature (standard NF T 51-021). Internally, the foam is coated with a layer of Nylon (registered trademark). The liner is provided with a tongue 2 and a frame 3 also made of thermoformable material having a relatively low softening temperature and in all cases less than 100 DEG C under a load of 1 kg.
This material is preferably a low density polyethylene such as PE-tBDL having a softening temperature under load of 1 kg less than a range of 50 to 83 DEG C or EVA having a softening temperature of 60 to 80 DEG C for a comonomer content of 5 to 20% for a softening temperature below 50 DEG C for a comonomer content of 25 to 40%, or EMA (ethylene methacrylic acid) or EAA (ethylene acrylic acid) having respectively softening temperatures from 63 DEG C and 84 to 74 DEG C.
The reinforcement may be made of solid or cellular injected material or a combination of these two materials.
The frame 3 has a central part 3a extending over the rear of the foot, above the heel area. From this part 2a extend, downwards, two parts 3b and 3c which pass under the malleolar region to go up in the direction of the instep. In addition, from the central part 3a, upwards, two branches 3d and 3e which extend, slightly obliquely forward, on each side of the tibial zone. This frame provides optimal support for the foot and ankle. It also ensures a precise transmission of forces between the leg, more particularly the tibia, and the ski without creating annoying or even painful pressure on blood vessels. When skiing, the movement of the tibia gives the direction of the edge grip, that is to say the side of the ski on which the leg will be supported.
This transmission of the tibial support is therefore essential in the edge grip and for the precision of this edge grip.
The immediate transmission of forces between the ski and the leg is essential, but this should not be done at the expense of comfort. Indeed, if the skier feels pain, even slight, due to compression of the blood vessels or a bone tip, this feeling of discomfort results in a feeling of insecurity. It is therefore important that the reinforcement of the boot does not cause this feeling of discomfort. The shape of the frame 3 fulfills these conditions. This shape could, however, deviate from the shape shown.
The frame 3 could also equip a non-thermoformable comfort liner in situ. It could be made of a material other than a thermoformable material.
For the thermoforming of the liner and its frame, the liner can be heated, for example with hot air.
