The present invention relates to a metering device for filling viscous, pasty or powdered or granular products, as defined in the preamble of independent claim 1.
Dosing devices should work as accurately and reliably as possible, since even small deviations from the target weight can have negative effects in the subsequent processing of the dosed product.
A metering device known from EP-A-0 222 695 comprises a vertically directed metering container which tapers conically towards the bottom and is provided with an outlet opening. A metering valve, which consists of a valve rod and a valve head, can be inserted into the outlet opening. A hollow shaft is arranged around the valve rod, to which a plurality of stirring and stripping tools which can be actuated by rotating the hollow shaft are fastened. The outlet of the valve rod from the hollow shaft is sealed by a stuffing box.
The dosing valve and the stirring and stripping tools prevent bridging and sticking of the filling material to the container wall or the dosing valve and thus enable the filling material to flow out evenly from the dosing container, so that the desired filling quantity can be achieved with high precision and at high filling speed.
This metering device has the disadvantage that the stuffing box between the valve rod and the hollow shaft is not sufficient to completely seal the hollow shaft, and due to the lifting and lowering of the valve rod, filling material gets into the hollow shaft over time. On the other hand, the stuffing box prevents or at least complicates cleaning and sterilization of the inside of the hollow shaft. The dosing device is therefore not suitable for sterile applications.
In view of the limited possibility of using the dosing device described above, the present invention is therefore based on the object of creating a dosing device of the type mentioned at the outset which can be used both for non-sterile and for sterile applications.
This object is achieved by the metering device according to the invention as defined in independent claim 1. Preferred design variants result from the dependent patent claims.
The essence of the invention is that in a metering device for filling viscous, pasty or powdery or granular products, with a metering valve comprising a valve rod and a valve head and a hollow shaft surrounding the valve rod, at one end of the hollow shaft a metering valve surrounding the metering valve, Extendable seal is arranged, which has a hollow shaft and a sealing end associated with the metering valve. The metering device also includes a metering container which has an outlet opening into which the metering valve can be inserted. At least one stirring and / or stripping tool that can be actuated by rotating the hollow shaft is attached to the hollow shaft.
The pull-out seal is arranged either on the end of the hollow shaft facing the valve head or on the end facing away from the valve head. In the first case, it ensures that no filling material gets inside the hollow shaft. In the second case, the interior of the hollow shaft also belongs to the product space. The seal is made outside the dosing container. In both cases, all areas in which bottled goods could be present are easily accessible and can therefore be cleaned and sterilized.
At least one of the two sealing ends is advantageously formed by a rigid ring. This enables the pull-out seal to be securely attached to the hollow shaft, the metering valve or to an intermediate element.
In a first preferred embodiment variant, one of the two sealing ends is firmly and tightly connected to the valve rod and the other forms a static part of a mechanical seal which has a rotating part firmly and tightly connected to the hollow shaft.
In a second preferred embodiment, the valve rod has a rotating and a non-rotating rod section, and one of the two sealing ends is firmly and tightly connected to the rotating rod section and the other is firmly and tightly connected to the hollow shaft, with the rotating rod section and the extendable seal are intended to co-rotate with the hollow shaft.
The advantage of these two design variants is that the valve head does not rotate with the hollow shaft, so that no problems occur when the valve head is pushed into the outlet opening.
In a third preferred embodiment variant, one of the two seal ends is firmly and tightly connected to the valve rod and the other is firmly and tightly connected to the hollow shaft, the valve rod and the pull-out seal being designed to co-rotate with the hollow shaft.
In a fourth preferred embodiment, the pull-out seal is arranged on the end of the hollow shaft facing the valve head and one of the two seal ends is firmly and tightly connected to the hollow shaft and the other is firmly and tightly connected to the valve head, the valve head and the pull-out seal being intended for this purpose to co-rotate with the hollow shaft.
These two design variants have the advantage that the metering device has a simple structure and the pull-out seal is directly and firmly connected both to the hollow shaft and to the metering valve.
Advantageously, either at least part of the valve rod is hollow, has a gas or liquid supply opening and is provided with gas or liquid outlet openings at least in the region of the pull-out seal, or it is at least in the region of the pull-out seal around the valve rod a jacket tube arranged so that a gas or a liquid can be supplied between the valve rod and the jacket tube, the jacket tube being provided with gas or liquid outlet openings.
This enables cleaning and sterilization of the hollow shaft and the pull-out seal from the inside as well as the valve rod.
At least three webs are advantageously arranged between the hollow shaft and the valve rod, which are either permanently connected to the hollow shaft or to the valve rod. The webs guide the valve rod without clogging the space between the hollow shaft and the valve rod. Waste, gas and cleaning fluid can therefore pass through without any problems.
As an alternative, at least three stirring and / or stripping tools attached to the hollow shaft can be provided, which simultaneously guide the valve head.
The metering device according to the invention is described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings and four exemplary embodiments. Show it:

Figure 1
The dosing device shown comprises a dosing container 1 with a container ceiling 12, which is conical in its lower part and provided with an outlet opening 11 at the bottom. A holder 77 serves to fix the dosing container 1 to a wall. The container ceiling 12 has a filling opening 13 through which the filling material reaches the dosing container 1. From a storage container, not shown, the filling material is fed via a pipe 71 to a conveyor 72 which contains a cellular wheel sluice or a vibrating trough. The conveyor 72 is connected to the metering container 1 via a pipe 73. As soon as the level of the filling material in the metering container 1 falls below a certain minimum, the conveying device 72 is switched on via a level measuring device (not visible here) and the metering container 1 is refilled.
A gearbox 74 is mounted on the container ceiling 12, which is driven by a motor 75 and drives a hollow shaft (not visible here) with stirring and stripping tools. An actuator 76 is attached to the housing of the transmission 74 and operates on a pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical basis with or without mechanical implementation. The actuator 76 moves a metering valve leading through the hollow shaft in the vertical direction and, depending on the stroke, opens a larger or smaller opening at the outlet opening 11 of the metering container 1.
Below the dosing container 1 there is a filling vessel 8 on a weighing device 9 which is provided with a clamping device 91 which presses an intermediate cover 80 against the filling vessel 8.
The dosing device is operated as follows:
An empty filling vessel 8, for example a container or a barrel, is placed on the weighing device 9. The intermediate cover 80 is pressed with the clamping device 91 onto the upper edge of the filling vessel 8. The filling vessel 8 is automatically tared, i.e. the weighing device 9 is automatically set to zero. The dosing container 1 is well fed via the conveyor 72 and the pipes 71, 73. As soon as the filling material in the dosing container 1 has reached an intended upper level, the filling of the product begins while the hollow shaft rotates with the stirring and stripping tools. Filling begins with the metering valve fully open.
As soon as a certain part of the intended filling weight is reached, the metering valve is brought into a fine metering position, i.e. only a small gap remains between the metering valve and the outlet opening 11 of the metering container 1. The stirring and stripping tools circling around the metering valve ensure that this small gap is not clogged by filling material that sticks together. If a predetermined minimum level of the filling material present in the dosing container 1 is undershot during the filling process, the conveyor device 72 is actuated until the predetermined upper level is reached again. As soon as the preselected final filling weight is reached, the dosing valve is closed completely and the filling process is finished.
The following definition applies to the entire further description. If reference numerals are included in a figure for the sake of clarity in the drawing, but are not explained in the directly associated description text, reference is made to their mention in the previous description of the figures.
Figure 2
The dosing container 1 with the outlet opening 11, the container ceiling 12 and the filling opening 13 is shown here in section. A hollow shaft 3 is arranged centrally in the metering container 1 and passes through the container ceiling 12. A mechanical seal 6 enables the hollow shaft 3 to be rotated and seals the passage. Three stirring and stripping tools are attached to the hollow shaft 3, only the stirring and stripping tools 31 and 32 being visible here. These prevent the filling goods from bridging or sticking to the container wall.
The discharge quantity of the filling material is regulated by raising and lowering a metering valve 2, which consists of a valve rod 22 passing through the hollow shaft 3 and a valve head 21. The valve head 21 is disc-shaped at its lower end and has a diameter in this section which corresponds to that of the outlet opening 11. So that as little filling material as possible gets caught on the valve head 21, it tapers conically in the direction of the valve rod 22.
The stirring and stripping tools 31 and 32 attached to the hollow shaft 3 and the third stirring and stripping tool, not shown, each have an edge facing the valve head 21, which on the one hand prevents the filling material from sticking to the valve head 21 when the hollow shaft 3 rotates, and on the other hand guide the valve head 21.
In the first exemplary embodiment shown here, the interior of the hollow shaft 3 belongs to the product space. Sealing to the outside takes place outside the metering container 1 by means of an extendable seal 4 connected to a mechanical seal 5. The extendable seal 4 comprises a bellows 41 which is arranged between two rigid rings and is tightly connected to the latter and which enables the valve rod 22 to be raised and lowered. The rigid ring 42 forming the upper seal end is tightly attached to the valve rod 22. The rigid ring 43 forming the lower end of the extendable seal 4 is at the same time a static part of the mechanical seal 5. The mechanical seal 5 enables the hollow shaft 3 to rotate without the extendable seal 4 and the valve rod 22 also rotating.
Figure 3
To the left and right of the valve rod 22, individual elements are shown differently and the pull-out seal 4 is shown in different positions.
The mechanical seal 5 comprises a hollow cylindrical rotary part 51 which is mounted over the upper end of the hollow shaft 3. Three screws are used for fastening, only screw 52 being visible here. An annular seal 53 statically seals the connection between the rotating part 51 and the hollow shaft 3. When the hollow shaft 3 rotates, the rotating part 51 also rotates. Ball bearings 54 with balls 540 prevent the rotation from being transmitted to the housing 55 of the mechanical seal 5. In order to absorb the moment of the ball bearings 54, a screw 56 screwed into the housing 55 is held from the outside with a fork, not shown.
The heart of the mechanical seal 5 is formed by two sliding rings 57 and 58 which slide on one another and two sliding rings 570 and 580 which slide on one another. Together with static ring seals 501 to 504, they ensure that the product space is sealed off from the outside. For the supply of a barrier medium, e.g. Steam condensate, to the slide rings 57, 58, 570 and 580 there is a feed channel 511 and a lead-away channel 512 for the removal of the barrier medium. Instead of condensate, pure steam can be passed through the two channels 511 and 512 for sterilization.
The reference numbers 506 and 507 relate to further ring seals.
The mechanical seal 5 comprises, as a further static part, a rigid ring 43 which at the same time forms the lower end of the pull-out seal 4. The bellows 41 of the pull-out seal 4 is tightly welded to the two rigid rings 42 and 43 and surrounded by a cylindrical housing 44. The rigid ring 42 is fastened to the valve rod 22 with a screw 45. An annular seal 46 is used for sealing.
Around the valve rod 22, a jacket tube 23 provided with gas or liquid outlet openings 230 is spaced apart. Via a connection 24, cleaning liquid can be introduced between the valve rod 22 and the casing tube 23, which then splashes through the gas or liquid outlet openings 230 onto the bellows 41 and finally runs away downwards. For sterilization, pure steam is blown through instead of cleaning liquid.

In this second exemplary embodiment, the metering device comprises a metering container 101 with an outlet opening 111, a container cover 112 and a filling opening 113. Three stirring and stripping tools are attached to a hollow shaft 103 arranged centrally in the metering container 101, only the stirring and stripping tools 131 and 132 being visible here , A mechanical seal 106 enables the hollow shaft 103 to be rotated and seals its passage through the container ceiling 112. A metering valve 102, which consists of a valve rod 122 and a valve head 121, is used to regulate the amount of discharge of the filling material.
An extendable seal 104 comprises a bellows 141, which is arranged between two rigid rings 142 and 143 and is tightly connected to them. The rigid ring 142 is tightly and firmly connected to the valve rod 122 and the rigid ring 143 to the hollow shaft 103. In order to be able to replace the pull-out seal 104 simply and quickly, the ring 143 is preferably screwed onto the hollow shaft 103.
In this exemplary embodiment, the valve rod 122 and the pull-out seal 104 rotate with the hollow shaft 103. Before the outlet opening 111 is completely closed, the rotation is switched off.

In this third exemplary embodiment, the metering device comprises a metering container 201 with an outlet opening 211, container cover 212 and filling opening 213. Three stirring and stripping tools are attached to a hollow shaft 203 arranged centrally in the metering container 201, only the stirring and stripping tools 231 and 232 being visible here , A mechanical seal 206 enables the hollow shaft 203 to be rotated and seals its passage through the container ceiling 212. A metering valve 202, which consists of a valve rod 222 and a valve head 221, serves to regulate the amount of discharge of the filling material. The valve stem 222 is divided into a rotating stem portion 223 and a non-rotating stem portion 224.
An extendable seal 204 comprises a bellows 241 which is arranged between two rigid rings 242 and 243 and is tightly connected to these. The rigid ring 242 is tightly and firmly connected to the rotating rod section 223 of the valve rod 222 and the rigid ring 243 to the hollow shaft 203. In order to be able to replace the pull-out seal 204 simply and quickly, the ring 243 is preferably screwed onto the hollow shaft 203.
In this exemplary embodiment, the lower rod section 224 of the valve rod 222 and the valve head 221 do not rotate with the hollow shaft 203. Closing the outlet opening 211 is therefore unproblematic.
Figure 6
In this fourth exemplary embodiment, the metering device comprises a metering container 301 with an outlet opening 311, container cover 312 and filling opening 313. Three stirring and stripping tools are fastened to a hollow shaft 303 arranged centrally in the metering container 301, only the stirring and stripping tools 331 and 332 being visible here ,
A mechanical seal 306 enables the hollow shaft 303 to be rotated and seals its passage through the container ceiling 312. A metering valve 302, which consists of a valve rod 322 and a valve head 321, is used to regulate the amount of discharge of the filling material.
An extendable seal 304 comprises a bellows 341 which is arranged between two rigid rings 342 and 343 and is tightly connected to the latter. The rigid ring 342 is tightly and firmly connected to the hollow shaft 303 and the rigid ring 343 to the valve head 321.
In this embodiment, the valve head 321 and the pull-out seal 304 rotate with the hollow shaft 303. The rotation is switched off before the outlet opening 311 is completely closed.
In addition to the above-described metering devices according to the invention, further design variations can be implemented. It is expressly mentioned here that a membrane can also be used instead of a bellows.
