The invention relates to a portable electronic device with the features of the preamble of the independent claim.
Bad breath is a common phenomenon. Although it can be combated if necessary through suitable hygienic measures, it nevertheless leads to considerable impairments of the quality of life of the person concerned and also of his surroundings. One reason is that the person concerned does not realize whether he / she actually has bad breath. An olfactory sensor could remedy this. A similar problem arises after drinking alcohol, if the alcohol level in the blood should be determined, for example before driving a car. Here too, in principle, an olfactory sensor could analyze the exhaled air and obtain the desired information (alcohol level, roadworthiness yes / no).
In the field of olfactory sensors (i.e. special gas concentration sensors) great progress has indeed been made in recent years. Numerous small receptors can be combined into a sensor array on an integrated circuit and manufactured industrially. Such a sensor array is able to detect an odor spectrum of gaseous substances.
In principle, therefore, while devices for solving the problems of identifying bad breath and determining the alcohol level - namely gas concentration sensors - would be present, it cannot be assumed that they are always carried along. On the contrary, it is likely that these are often forgotten and therefore do not achieve the desired effect and consequently do not prevail among a wide audience.
This is where the invention comes in. The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a device for determining gas concentrations which does not have the disadvantages of existing devices and which is in particular designed such that it is hardly ever forgotten in everyday life.
This object is achieved by a portable electronic communication and / or data processing device as defined in the claims.
The invention is essentially characterized in that a gas concentration sensor is integrated in a portable electronic communication and / or data processing device. Display means of this device are preferably used to display determined measurement results.
A portable communication and / or data processing device is, for example, a cell phone or a pocket organizer. Due to the fact that a gas concentration sensor is installed according to the invention, the device can show its owner whether and how strong he has bad breath or how strongly he has been alcoholized. The odor pattern determined by the sensor is evaluated and displayed, for example, by internal software. When implementing this function, the user interfaces already present in the device, such as the keyboard and display means (display) and its processor, are preferably used.
The use of a mobile phone or pocket organizer enables the odor measurement to be carried out very inexpensively and saves the user from having to purchase an additional device for this purpose. Since such devices are always carried anyway, the olfactory sensor is always available and is not forgotten.
Some exemplary embodiments of the invention are described below with reference to a drawing. The drawing shows:
1 is a mobile phone with an integrated gas concentration sensor (S), which enables the determination of the intensity of the bad breath of a person,
2 is a mobile phone with an integrated gas concentration sensor (S), which enables both the determination of the intensity of the bad breath and the determination of the degree of alcoholization of a person,
3 shows a further portable communication and / or data processing device, namely a pocket organizer (type Psion) with an integrated gas concentration sensor (S) and
4 shows another pocket organizer (type Palm Pilot) with an integrated gas concentration sensor (S).
1 shows a mobile telephone with a display field (A) as the display means. In addition, part of the housing (G) is shown schematically in section. As can be seen from the figure, a gas concentration sensor (S) can be attached behind a housing opening (O) inside the mobile phone. The sensor has a surface that is directly connected to the opening (O). For example, there is only one connection space between the sensor and the opening, which, in contrast to the example shown, could possibly also be designed as a channel. With this arrangement, the intensity of the bad breath can be determined from the breath of a person. All that is required is to direct the person's breathing air in the direction of the opening (O). There is also an interface to a device's own processor, which also controls the display panel.
E.g. The display (A) can be switched to display the bad breath using a keyboard (T). The representation takes place, for example, by means of graphic elements (B). The measurement (time etc.) is also controlled via the keyboard.
The mobile phone shown in FIG. 2 is constructed analogously to the mobile phone of FIG. 1. However, the sensor (S) also offers the possibility of also determining the alcohol level in the blood by determining the alcohol concentration in the breathing air. The display field (A) can, as shown in the figure, be switched over, for example. However, it can of course also be provided that the display field has means for displaying the alcohol concentration as well as a graphical representation of the intensity of the bad breath. Additional information, e.g. about the reception of mobile radio signals, can also be displayed (such as country-specific alcohol limit values, etc.).
The pocket organizers shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 are known per se. The gas concentration sensor is introduced behind a housing opening (O) analogously to the examples described above. The display field (A) in these pocket organizers is larger than that of a mobile phone, so that depending on which the olfactory information is only displayed in a partial area of the display field.
Of course, other portable communication and / or data processing devices, which are not described in more detail here, can also be provided with a sensor, for example the rapidly emerging combined microcomputers with an integrated mobile telephone function.
The mode of operation of the exemplary embodiments is briefly described below: In order to determine the intensity of the bad breath, the measured values of the sensor array are compared by the internal processor with a neutral odor spectrum. The deviations are accumulated and the result is shown as an intensity value. For better results, spectral values that are odorless can be filtered out in this step. In order to determine the degree of alcoholization, the measured values of the sensor array are compared by the device's internal processor with the smell spectrum for alcohol. The degree of alcoholization can be derived from the addition of the spectral values relevant for alcohol.
In both of the variants mentioned, the values can also be hardware, i.e. calculated by an integrated circuit. This can greatly simplify the interface to the sensor.
To activate the measurement process and to display the measurement result, the user interface available in the device (usually keyboard and display field, but also touch screen and voice recognition / playback are conceivable).
