The present invention relates to an electrical detonator according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Igniters in gas generators for impact protection systems (airbags) according to the preamble are known (including DE-C1 4 102 275).
With the spread of electronic ignition and monitoring devices in vehicle technology, but in particular due to the increasing use of mobile radio systems, the risk of instantaneous overvoltages, which can activate an unprotected gas generator, has increased. Special measures are therefore necessary so that any uncontrolled peak voltage that occurs in the vehicle electrical system does not trigger the airbags.
From DE-A1 3 415 625, a split igniter with a target spark gap is already known. Circular and line-shaped recesses are provided in a metal layer, which are connected to flat hollow pieces and are intended on the one hand to act as surge arresters and on the other hand to serve as an ignition bridge. The whole is put together using insulating rings and hot melt adhesives.
This construction requires the use of complex photo-etching processes or expensive laser cutting systems to form the required gap-shaped recesses. In addition, there is a risk that high electrostatic charges will penetrate the intended insulating sticker and unintentionally ignite the adjacent primer, consisting of explosive initial explosives.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an electrical igniter in which a clear physical separation between the ignition path or the ignition means and the surge arrester is ensured. In addition, the arrangement should be mechanically stable, tight and independent of adhesives with relatively low melting points.
The components forming the surge arrester should be easy to integrate into the igniter without positioning aids. Sensitive insulation layers and the like, which are unfavorable for mass production, are to be eliminated.
The detonator is said to be suitable for use in, in particular, mobile gas generators, such as those used in protective devices in vehicles as airbags and belt tensioners.
This object is achieved according to the features of claim 1.
The constructive designs according to the invention generate a defined electrical field between the contact pins and the ring, with physically precisely defined and reproducing rollover distances.
The solution according to claim 1 enables a large number of design variants, including those with a plastic housing.
Advantageous developments of the subject matter of the invention are shown in the following dependent claims.
The galvanically conductive ring is preferably formed with sharp edges, so that the possible rollover takes place at a location defined by the partially increased field strength.
It is advisable, according to claim 3, to design the bore of the ring in the shape of a truncated cone, so that an electric field which is raised towards the sharp edge is generated here.
A further development is the embodiment according to claim 4, so that an optimal field line concentration can be achieved.
The mechanical integration of the contact pins, according to claim 5, in the connector base reduces the mass and at the same time gives the possibility of a very good axial guidance of the pins.
The embodiment according to claim 6 is particularly favorable for the galvanically conductive rings which are inserted in plastic die casting.
Instead of a peripheral contact, the galvanically conductive ring can be placed on a flange of the metallic igniter housing, so that in turn the overall height of the igniter is reduced.
A galvanically conductive ring that protrudes with contact surfaces from a plastic housing and is contacted with a likewise galvanically conductive gas generator housing is particularly economical; Claim 8.
Exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are explained in more detail below with the aid of drawings.

Fig. 5 shows a further partial sectional view of a largely made of plastic detonator
6 shows part of the surge arrester from FIG. 5
Fig. 7 shows a variant of a detonator with a plastic housing
Fig. 8 the galvanically conductive ring used in the housing Fig. 7 and
Fig. 9 is a plan view, from below, of the igniter Fig. 7, without a charge cap, with the protruding contact surfaces of the conductive ring.
In Fig. 1a, 1 is a filament igniter. In a housing 2, made of an aluminum alloy known per se, there are notches 3 on the end face, which represent predetermined breaking points for the igniter, and from which the hot gas formed after electrical ignition can pass into the gas generator (not shown here) or its ignition layer can kindle.
In a fitting ring 4 inserted in the housing 2 there is an insulator 10 made of glass, in which contact pins 8 are cast concentrically. The two contact pins 8 are ground with the face of the insulator 10; A glow wire is welded over it, which serves as an ignition element 7.
A first initial ignition layer 5, on which a second initial ignition layer 6 is present, is located on the ignition means 7. Both ignition layers 5 and 6 are pressed under relatively high pressure, so that they form a compact unit.
The two contact pins 8, with a diameter d, are guided in a plug base 9a and are protected and connectable by lateral plug fuses 9.
A galvanically conductive ring 12 inserted into the bore of the housing 2 in a form-fitting manner surrounds the contact pins 8 concentrically with its bore 12a and forms the distance ê to these contact pins in a correspondingly short area after the offset. The overall height of this ring 12 is at least twice the diameter d of the contact pins and is denoted by D.
In addition, an annular groove 14 is provided in the ring 12 on the lower end face, in which an O-ring 13 is inserted and brings about a secure sealing of this appropriately inserted ring from the metal housing.
The above very compact arrangement is mechanically fixed and gas-tight by a flange 2a.
When viewed from above, the configuration of the contact pins 8 with the plug base 9a and the plug fuse 9 can be seen from FIG. 1b. In addition, an air gap can be seen, which is formed by the recess 11 in the plug base 9a and in which the overvoltage in the ambient air can breakdown.
The galvanically conductive ring 15 according to FIG. 2 is designed in a similar manner to that in FIG. 1a, but here the frustoconical configuration of the bore 16 can be seen, which in the sharp edge provided in FIG. 2, analogously to FIG. 1a 16a runs out and causes a high field strength in the event of overvoltages.
With regard to the overvoltage behavior, this embodiment is more favorable than a purely axially symmetrical bore.
The variant of FIG. 3 is constructed in a similar manner to the igniter according to FIG. 1a, but here an insulator 10a made of plastic is provided, which also protrudes into a charge cap 4 min made of plastic.
Furthermore, the galvanically conductive ring, referred to as ring 17, is of low overall height and lies with a contact surface 20 on an inner edge of a metallic housing for 2 minutes. The plug base 9a, which is designed as a plastic die-cast part, engages in openings 19 and fixes the arrangement in a radially symmetrical manner and is inserted into an insulator flange 9b.
The plug base 9a encloses the contact pins 8, so that an interior formed by the recess 11 min is protected from environmental influences. The distance ê is in turn aligned with the predetermined or preselected breakdown field strength.
The structural design of the conductive ring 17 with its bore 18 and the openings 19 is shown in Figure 4.
5 is constructed in a similar manner, but here a conductive ring 21 is provided which has a prism-shaped, sharp, circumferential inner edge 22 min in its bore 22.
This embodiment has the advantage that it creates a toroidal electric field, the maximum field strength of which is half the height of the ring 21 and is symmetrically distributed. The distance ê is not shown here for drawing reasons. The top view, FIG. 6, in turn shows openings 23 which take into account the sweeping design of the plug base 9a.
The housing used here 2 min min is again made of metal; Contact surfaces 24 of the ring 21 form the connection to the ground line.
7 shows a partial representation of a detonator made of plastic. The polyamide housing part 2 min min min contains a conductive ring 25, which is designed like a cam wheel, cf. Fig. 8, wherein contact surfaces 27, Fig. 9, protrude from the housing 2 min min min and serve the connection to the ground line E via the metal surface of a gas generator, not shown. Again, recesses 28 are provided, which serve to concentrically fix the ring 25 with its bore 26.
The top view in FIG. 9 shows the two contact pins 8 arranged in the center, which are flat with respect to the insulator 10a made of plastic. The ignition element made of glow wire, as well as the explosive layers, which are located in a charge cap to be pushed over the insulator 10a, FIG. 7, are not shown here.
The distance between the smallest bore of the galvanically conductive rings and the diameter of the contact pins, which is provided for the design variants shown above, is in the order of magnitude of 0.5 mm.
The prescribed puncture resistance (25 kV according to DE standard VG 95378, part 11) is thus reproducibly guaranteed.
The materials used to construct the igniter are known as such. The conductive ring is preferably made of free-cutting stainless steel (Cr / Ni alloy); the filament made of a Ni / Cr alloy. The contact pins are preferably made of a Ni / Fe alloy and are gold-plated in their connection area. In particular, glass fiber reinforced polyamide 6.6 (trademark of EMS Chemie AG, Domat-Ems) has proven itself as a plastic.
A first initial explosive made of lead ricinate and a second one made of boron potassium nitrate are provided as initial ignition layers, which have been compressed at 6000 N / cm 2 to 10,000 N / cm 2 and thus ensure a completely mechanically stable and homogeneous structure of the detonator.
The design of the igniter according to the invention additionally results in a high level of EMC safety (electromagnetic compatibility) and meets all the requirements for use in modern vehicles.
