Abstract

Timepiece with a world time display, suitable in particular for embodiment as a pocket watch or wristwatch, which in addition to an annular dial (11) with a scale for hours and minutes has the associated hands for hours (3), minutes (4) and seconds (5). In the centre of the timepiece is a circular dial which is provided with a representation of a map of the world in a polar projection and rotates in the anticlockwise direction within 24 hours. Time zones (9) represented on the map of the world correspond to the time marks applied to the inner rim of the circular dial (2) in a reverse fashion. In order to read off the local time, use is made of a hand which is fitted above the circular dial, is coupled to the dial by means of a slipping clutch (friction clutch) and rotates with the latter. This hand can be adjusted by means of a mechanism actuated by the watch crown (case crown), and serves to read off the local time on the scale (2) for a desired location on the map of the world. The circumferential representation of the map of the world is divided into a light day half (6) and a dark night half (7) by means of a semicircular shaded disc which is permanently connected to the housing. <IMAGE>
