Beschreibung description
The invention relates to a protective strip according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
Bislang löste man das Problem folgendermas-sen: In paper cutting machines, the paper lying on a work table, which is mostly made of metal, is cut by a lowering knife. To avoid damaging the knife and the work table, you must prevent the knife from hitting the work table underneath after cutting the paper. So far, the problem has been solved as follows:
At the point where the knife would touch the table, the table was provided with an approximately 10 mm wide and 4.5 mm deep groove, into which a plastic strip was pressed. So far there have been two different types of plastic protective strips. The strips of the first kind were serpentine, or more precisely sinusoidal. When it is pressed into the groove, the snake shape is forced into a straight line, as a result of which pressing forces are exerted on both sides of the groove. The pressing forces clamp the protective strip in the groove. These strips have major disadvantages. The strips are wear parts. They have to be thrown away after four knife changes. Because they were made of PVC, a large amount of environmentally harmful PVC waste was generated. Because environmentally harmful hydrochloric acid vapors are generated when PVC is burned, the use of PVC in the packaging sector has been prohibited in Switzerland since November 1, 1990. It is expected that the ban will be extended to wearing parts in the near future.
Furthermore, these strips had the disadvantage that they had to be reworked during manufacture by milling or grinding on a special grinding machine (4-surface machining). In addition, the protective strips had to be brought to the desired sinus shape after cooling and cutting to length in the heating furnace. During reworking it often happened that small, hard particles of the grinding wheel remained on the surface of the protective strips and later damaged the knife during the cutting process. Another disadvantage is that the PVC is too hard. The protective strips could only be pushed into the groove by hand with difficulty. It always had to be helped with a hammer, but the groove edges were destroyed, so that the transition from the work table to the bar was interrupted by nicks. As the stacks of paper were being pushed back and forth on the work table, the bottom sheets would remain stuck, making it impossible to work quickly. You can reduce the hardness of PVC with plasticizers. PVC containing plasticizers shrinks over time, however, as the plasticizers decompose. Protective strips made of such material would therefore become unusable if stored for a long time.
The protective strips of the second type consisted practically only of a thin film, which was provided in the middle with a tube-like structure. So that this protective strip could be inserted into the groove of existing paper cutting machines, a metal strip was glued into the existing groove. This metal strip had a groove or recess in the middle, which was shaped in such a way that the protective strip could be pressed in with the hose-like attachment. Due to the special shape of the groove, a snap effect was achieved, which made it easy to insert and remove the protective strip. Other last shapes that could achieve a certain snap effect were also possible. The material was no longer PVC but an impact-resistant plastic, such as Polypropylene or high molecular weight polyethylene is used. This allowed the protective strips to be manufactured in a special Shore hardness that was suitable for all known knives. This hardness cannot be easily achieved with PVC, since it lies between the hardness of soft PVC and hard PVC and would therefore require the use of plasticizers with the disadvantages described above. In the production of the second type of last, no post-treatment was required. You could do without the disadvantageous grinding. The cutting strips only had to be extruded with an appropriate extruder. A high surface quality was achieved. However, it turned out that the production of such complicated shapes as occur with the protective strips of the second type is very difficult when using polypropylene. The reason for this is that polypropylene adheres very strongly to the tool. The applicant for this patent here is also the inventor of the protective strips of the second type. The corresponding patent CH 673 805 A5 was issued on April 12, 1990. The new patent described here is a successor to that patent.
The object of the invention is to provide a protective strip which has a shape such that it can be easily produced from polypropylene or a similar material by means of an extruder.
The object is achieved according to the invention with the aid of the training features according to the characterizing part of patent claim 1.

Wird The cross section of the new protective strip corresponds approximately to a rectangle with a height of 4.45 mm and a width of 9.93 mm. A cavity 2 runs in the interior of the protective strip at a distance along the two narrow side surfaces 1. The cross section of the cavity 2 can be seen from FIG. 1. The two narrow side surfaces 1 are not flat. Two beads 3 each with a circular segment-shaped cross section run along the side faces 1. The beads 3 are arranged symmetrically to the bisector 4 of the narrow sides 1. Including the bead height, the width of the protective strip is a few tenths of a millimeter more than 10 mm and is therefore somewhat wider than the groove. Becomes

Die Massänderungen durch wechselnde Temperatur und Feuchtigkeit ist bei der Formgebung berücksichtigt worden, da Polypropylen wesentlich höhere Ausdehnungskoeffizienten besitzt als die Metalle, aus denen die Arbeitstische gefertigt sind. the protective strip inserted into the groove, the narrow side walls 1 can be pressed inwards thanks to the longitudinal cavities 2, without changing the thickness of the strip. Thanks to the elasticity of the polypropylene from which the protective strip is made, the pressed-in side walls 1 exert a counter pressure on the groove walls via the longitudinal beads 2, which clamps the protective strip in the groove. The height of the protective strip is a few tenths of a millimeter smaller than the height of the groove. This ensures that the protective strip does not protrude beyond the work surface even in the event of dimensional changes due to temperature fluctuations and changes in the relative humidity values. The dimensional changes due to changing temperature and humidity have been taken into account in the shaping, since polypropylene has significantly higher expansion coefficients than the metals from which the work tables are made.
In the present invention it has been possible to maintain the advantages which the protective strips of the second type have and to achieve two further important advantages. Thanks to its simple shape, the strip can be better made using an extruder made of polypropylene or a similar material. The polypropylene means that it is not necessary to offer several protective strips with different hardness. A protective strip with a coordinated Shore hardness is sufficient for all known knife types. The polypropylene waste can be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. No post-processing is required to manufacture the new protective strips. The protective strip is only extruded. This ensures a high surface quality. The surface is no longer contaminated by hard grindstone particles that could damage the knife.
The new protective strip can be pressed directly into the existing groove without having to glue an additional metal strip into the groove beforehand.
Thanks to the elasticity or softness of the polypropylene and the special shape of the new protective strip, it can be easily pushed into the groove by hand and just as easily removed from the groove, so that no one needs a hammer when inserting it. It will no longer happen that the groove edges are destroyed, causing paper sheets to get stuck when the paper stacks are pushed back and forth.
Despite the relative softness of the material, the new protective strip holds well in the groove, since the clamping pressure acts on the entire length of the protective strip and not only at individual points, as was the case with the serpentine PVC protective strips of the first type.
Since the elaborate post-processing, which was necessary for the protective strips of the first type, is eliminated in the production, the production costs are significantly lower.
