Abstract
Appts. has a rotating milling cutter with a centralising device both of which are mounted on a supporting plate. The plate rotates around the object to be peeled and peels it as it is pushed forward. The object is pressed and centralised against a cutting bridge and as the supporting plate rotates around the object as it is progressively pushed forward, a spiral cutting action is obtd. Forward movement of the object is obtd by three spring loaded centralising rolls and/or conveyor belts. USE/ADVANTAGE - Peels long, rod shaped raw foodstuffs e.g. gurkins, carrots, peels various dias. and irregular shapes for short fibrous peelings easier to dispose of.
Description

The invention relates to a device for the spiral peeling of elongated, rod-shaped peeling goods by means of one or more rotating milling cutters, a centering and a transport device.
It is essential to the present device that the irregular shape of such goods in the radius and axial direction is automatically taken into account by the device at any time during the peeling process and so the shell is removed very evenly and economically from the entire peeled material with only the depth of cut just required.
The selected type of peeling using a rotating milling cutter also results in an unusually beautiful visual appearance of the processed material.
The peeling device enables peeling of goods, preferably food such as asparagus, cucumber, carrots etc.
For valuable goods such as asparagus, peeling devices have hitherto been known which essentially mimic the manual peeling by means of a knife in the longitudinal direction of the asparagus.
Disadvantages of such devices are the difficult to control peeling depth, the polygonal shape of the peeled material (e.g. hexagonal or octagonal), resulting in a large proportion of waste, difficulties in peeling crooked and / or oval asparagus and many broken asparagus.
Another advantage of the invention over the known devices is that the shells do not appear as long, fibrous, large-volume wastes, but are very fine and short-fibred. This allows easy removal e.g. easy to wash away and pump out with water. The effective storage and transport volume of the waste is much smaller. The secondary reusability of the waste is also greatly facilitated.
An embodiment of an inventive device for peeling asparagus, as shown here in FIGS. 1 and 2, has a rotating platform (7) on which there is a fast-running milling cutter (2). It is powered by an electric motor (10) which receives its current via slip rings (12). The pressure bridge (6) for the peeling material (1) is located above the milling cutter. At a low speed of the platform, the two springs (14), which are pushed over the stop screws (13), push the bridge over the milling cutter so that the asparagus can be inserted into the milling device without damaging its head. After the introduction, the speed of the platform is increased. The bridge opens due to the dead weight (8) of the platform (6). The opening and thus the depth of cut of the milling cutter can be adjusted with the stop screws (13).
The centering parts (3), which are designed as rollers in the example, are kept open by the spring (15) at a low speed for insertion. The centrifugal weights (8) then press the centering parts onto the peeling material at nominal speed and center it in the middle between the two rollers and the milling cutter bridge.
As shown in FIG. 2, the peeling material is fed by means of three belts (5), which are also centering and run over rollers (4, 4a). The belts are driven by a flexible shaft (16) from an electric motor with a gearbox (17) attached via the rollers (4a).
The feed speed of the transport device and the nominal speed of the milling platform are matched in such a way that the asparagus that passes through is milled in a spiral pattern.
The force-fitting centering of the asparagus between the centering parts and the milling cutter bridge ensures that even curved and oval asparagus are always milled with the same depth of cut. The funnel-shaped arrangement of the transport device facilitates the insertion of the asparagus. The front guide roller (4) of the conveyor belt (5) is suspended via the resilient rods (11). The spring forces are dimensioned so that the centering on the milling cutter is always stronger than the centering by the transport device.
For example, suitable optoelectronic sensors can be used to control the speed of the milling cutter platform. For example, the beginning and the end of the asparagus are detected when it runs through the transport device.
For the automatic adaptation to the diameter of the peeling material in the case of a large variation, suitable sensors can also be attached, for example, to the cutter platform, which radially shift the cutter with its bridge and the centering device via a further adjustment device.
A simpler version has a mechanically adjustable shifting device.
