Fig. 1, produit standard à structure stratifiée;
Fig. 2, produit lamellaire avec collage par tranches de feutre avec orientation verticale des fibres;
Fig. 3, produit avec crêpage simple.
Fig. 5 représente le produit intermédiaire selon fig.
a) pour le simple crêpage, égale à celle de la zone I;
On a alors:
A. Cas du simple crêpage (fig. 6):
H1 = (1,4 à 2,0) . Ee (selon la MVA désirée)
H2 = (1,3 à 2,1) . Ee (selon la MVA désirée)
In most of the known processes for manufacturing heat-insulating materials from mineral fibers, the product naturally has a layered structure in which the majority of the fibers are horizontal (see FIG. 1).
This structure is perfectly suitable for light products used in the building and for industrial thermal insulation products, since it gives them good thermal properties and good mechanical resistance in tension, bending and thickness recovery after compression.
However, certain particular markets demand from the product, in addition to good thermal properties, high resistance to compression and delamination. In this case, the most commonly used solutions to date are distinguished by the following characteristics:
- increase in density,
- increase in fiber diameter,
- increase in the rate of binder,
- manufacture of lamellar felts (see fig. 2): by this technique, a fibrous structure in which the majority of the fibers are vertical is created by gluing slices of felt onto a covering.
These solutions allow the improvement of the mechanical properties, but on the whole have the disadvantage of being expensive, in particular the last one (lamella felt), which is certainly very effective for improving the resistance to compression, but it requires a recovery in a transformation workshop. In addition, it considerably reduces the flexural strength (provided by the coating alone) and the thermal resistance of the products.
The search for a better solution led the licensee, many years ago, to create a technique which makes it possible to manufacture a product in which the orientation of the fibers is no longer unidirectional (horizontal or vertical) but is much more random (see fig. 3), so as to present fibers arranged in all directions. This arrangement of the fibers makes it possible to obtain good mechanical properties (compression and tearing) while limiting the losses of flexural and thermal resistance. Such a product could be obtained, continuously on the production line, by the development of the technique known as "creping", from glass fibers.
This known creping operation (simple creping) is carried out by continuously subjecting the glass wool mattress with non-polymerized sizing (felt) coming from the reception, a longitudinal compression. This compression is obtained by passing the felt successively between two pairs of conveyors rotating at different speeds. The inlet conveyors (upstream section) are driven at a speed of about four times that of the conveyors in the outlet area (downstream section).
For each zone, the upper and lower conveyors are arranged so that they prevent the thickness of the felt from increasing under the effect of longitudinal compression.
It is this compression effect exerted on the fibers placed in a limited space, which causes a rearrangement of the fibers according to the thickness (see fig. 3).
The present invention aims to improve this simple creping process, in particular with a view to obtaining creped products with low apparent densities (less than 40 kg / m <3>).
The subject of the present invention is a method according to claim 1. It also comprises an installation for implementing this method, which is in accordance with claim 2.
The appended drawing illustrates, by way of example, an embodiment of the method and of the installation according to the invention.
Fig. 1, 2 and 3 represent the structure of three products of known types:
Fig. 1, standard product with laminated structure;
Fig. 2, lamellar product with bonding by felt slices with vertical orientation of the fibers;
Fig. 3, product with simple creping.
Fig. 4 similarly illustrates the structure of the product at the end of a first phase of the process according to the invention.
Fig. 5 shows the intermediate product according to fig. 4, after a second phase of the process according to the invention and as it appears to be finished.
Fig. 6 schematically represents the principle of a known installation and method of simple creping.
Fig. 7 schematically represents the principle of an embodiment of the method and of the improved (double) creping installation according to the present invention.
In order to clearly understand what distinguishes the new creping process from the old one, we will begin by describing, with reference to FIG. 6, the principle of the known method, known as simple creping. Subsequently we will refer to it by comparison.
The glass fiber (or other mineral fiber) mattress or felt arrives in 1 with non-polymerized gluing, coming from the reception (not shown), and passes, with the reception speed in 1, first between two pairs of conveyors converging upstream, 2a, 2b and 2c, 2d, which, in fact, act as a single conveyor of double length, and then engages between a pair of parallel conveyors, downstream, 3a, 3b.
The conveyors of the entry area (upstream section) 2a, 2b and 2c, 2d, are driven at the same speed, about four times higher (for example) than that of the conveyors of the exit area (downstream section ). Under the effect of this difference in speed, the felt undergoes, in the downstream section, a longitudinal compression which has the effect of passing the structure of the product from that according to fig. 1 to that according to fig. 3. The conveyors 3a, 3b prevent the thickness of the felt from increasing under the effect of this compression.
Leaving between the conveyors 3a, 3b of the downstream section, the felt is driven by starting conveyors 5a, 5b, in an oven not shown for polymerizing the binder, from which the product leaves finished.
In fig. 6, the arrow 6 indicates the direction of travel of the felt and by I and II the entire upstream section, formed as already said of the conveyors 2, 2a and 3, 3a, while the downstream section, formed by the conveyors 4, 4a is indicated by III.
The speed of the felt in zones I and II remains constant and equal to the speed of entry into 1, while the speed of the felt in zone III is much lower and equal to that of routing to and in the oven. of polymerization of the sizing.
In the embodiment of the invention according to FIG. 7, the creping obtained is twofold, that is to say that it is produced as will be seen, at two levels, the upstream section here being formed of two zones Ia and IIa which, unlike the known case of the fig. 6, have different functions. Zone IIIa forming the downstream section has the same function as zone III in fig. 6, that is to say to lead the mattress with non-polymerized gluing to the polymerization oven.
We see in 1 min the felt arriving at the entrance of the installation to pass in a conveyor 2, 2 min where it keeps the speed of entry. The pair of conveyors 2, 2 min therefore acts in the same way as the two pairs of conveyors 2a, 2b and 2c, 2d, in FIG. 6.
Leaving between the conveyors 2, 2 min, the felt arrives at a pair of conveyors 3, 3 min, having a much lower speed, which produces a longitudinal compression of the product and a first creping, illustrated in fig. 4. Leaving between the conveyors 3, 3 min, the felt creped for the first time arrives at a pair of conveyors 4, 4 min, having a speed lower than that of the conveyors 3, 3 min, with as a consequence, a second compression of the product between these conveyors and a second creping giving the final product a completely random arrangement of the fibers shown in FIG. 5.
Then, the product arrives at a pair of conveyors 5, 5 min, counterparts of 5a, 5b of fig. 6, which pass the felt through an oven (not shown) for polymerizing the binder.
The direction of travel of the felt is indicated by the arrow 6 min.
The process and installation according to fig. 7 therefore differ from those according to FIG. 6 with the following.
The entry section Ia, homologous to I and II together, is followed by a first creping section IIa homologous to III, then a second creping section IIIa which has no counterpart in FIG. 6, which gives a product having a lower apparent density (MVA) and greater flexibility, making it suitable, for example, for the thermal insulation of large tanks in the open air, by winding on the periphery of these tanks.
We will now give concrete examples of different values (speeds of the different conveyors and the entry and exit heights of certain conveyors).
The first longitudinal compression produced by the passage of the felt: from the conveyors 2, 2 min from zone Ia (fig. 7), to the conveyors 3, 3 min from zone IIa is produced by giving the latter a speed which is for example , 2.5 times smaller than that of the conveyors in zone Ia. This is what gives the wavy structure of FIG. 4.
The second longitudinal compression is obtained by giving the conveyors 4, 4 min of zone IIIa a speed which is, for example, 2.5 times slower than that of the conveyors of zone IIa. This is what gives the random and homogeneous structure of fig. 5.
The speed v1 of the conveyors 2, 2 min from zone Ia is equal to the speed of entry of the felt in 1 min. This is adjusted to obtain the desired gear ratio (or creping).
The speed of the conveyors 4, 4 min from the downstream zone IIIa, is equal to the speed of the conveyors 5, 5 min bringing the felt to the oven, which avoids any jamming or accidental decoupling during the passage of the mattress from zone IIIa in the oven.
The speed of the conveyors in zone I and in zone Ia are equal, in both cases of single creping and double creping, to the input speed (reception speed) vr of the felt in 1, respectively 1 min.
The speed of the conveyors in zone II, respectively IIa, is:
a) for simple creping, equal to that of zone I;
b) for double creping, calculated as a function of the ratio of the input speed vr of the felt to the speed in the oven ve, therefore vr / ve (creping speed), that is:
EMI7.1
The adjustment of the thicknesses of the felt takes place as follows.
Let H1 be the entry height into the conveyor of zone I or Ia,
Let H2 be the outlet height of conveyors II and IIa.
We then have:
A. Case of simple creping (fig. 6):
H1 = (1.4 to 2.0). Ee (depending on the desired MVA)
H2 = (1.3 to 2.1). Ee (depending on the desired MVA)
B. Case of double creping:
H min 1 = (1.2 to 2.3). Ee (depending on the desired MVA)
H min 2 = (1.3 to 2.4). Ee (depending on the desired MVA,
Downstream section, zone III and IIIa.
For single and double crepe:
Let H3 be the entry height between 3a and 3b or between 4 and 4 min; and either H4 the outlet height between 3a-3b or between 4-4 min.
H3 or H min 3 = (1.0 to 1.30). Ee (depending on the desired MVA)
H4 or H min 4 = (1.0 to 1.20). Ee (depending on the desired MVA)
The conveyors 3, 3 min and 4, 4 min, oppose an increase in thickness of the mattress under the effect of the axial pressure which it undergoes.
The two sections, upstream (Ia and IIa) and downstream (IIIa) are mechanically linked to each other and are arranged on a raceway allowing the positioning of their assembly relative to the oven.
Each conveyor is fitted with a conveyor belt driven by a DC gear motor assembly allowing precise adjustment of the speeds to the desired values.
Thanks to the completely random arrangement of the insulation fibers in the finished product, the latter has a compact surface, good flexibility and constant thickness, with good insulation qualities.
The application of the product on large surfaces, flat or not planar (concave or convex) is easy. The product offers sufficient compressive strength to allow the application of an additional protective coating or layer of insulation. The product can be in the form of a felt roll, suitable for application on the outside of a flame retardant coating and on cylindrical surfaces.
