La fig. 1 est une vue en coupe axiale de cette forme d'exécution;
The present invention relates to a vacuum gripping instrument, comprising an elongated body provided with two segments of longitudinal conduits, one of which opens at one end of said body and is intended to be connected to a suction source and whose l another opens at the opposite end of this body and is intended to receive a suction nozzle, the internal ends of these duct segments communicating laterally by respective slots with the bottom of a longitudinal guide channel constituting the seat d '' a slide valve mounted longitudinally sliding in this guide channel.
US-A 3,843,183 already describes such an instrument provided with a sliding slide valve. The problem which arises with such a valve is that of the seal produced between the bottom of the guide channel constituting the seat of the valve and the surface of this valve in contact with this seat. When a vacuum is applied to the level of the light which places the valve seat in communication with the suction source, the valve is applied against this seat with a force which is a function of the vacuum. Obviously the specific pressure is higher the smaller the support surface, a lower limit should not however be exceeded to prevent leaks from occurring. Furthermore, the length and width of the valve must be sufficient to ensure the guidance and stability of this sliding member.
For reasons of weight and price, the body of this instrument and the slide valve are preferably made of molded plastic. It follows from these various data that it turns out to be practically extremely difficult, if not impossible, to produce a sufficiently long and wide valve and at the same time to obtain a good seal between this valve and its seat, the specific pressure being too low. and contact cannot be guaranteed perfectly over the entire surface, especially with plastic parts.
The object of the present invention is to remedy, at least in part, the above-mentioned drawbacks by ensuring both good guidance and good sealing of the slide valve.
To this end, the subject of this invention is a vacuum gripping instrument according to claim 1.
The instrument according to the invention is of simple construction, reliable operation and easy handling. Many other advantages will become apparent from the description given with regard to the appended drawing which illustrates, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of the instrument which is the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1 is an axial sectional view of this embodiment;
fig. 2 is a sectional view along II-II of FIG. 1.
This instrument comprises an elongated body 1 constituted by a molded plastic part, which has two segments of axial conduits 2 and 3. The segment of conduit 2 opens at the rear end of the body 1 of the instrument and is provided with a connection end piece 4 intended to receive a flexible hose for connecting the duct segment 2 to a suction source (not shown). The other end of this segment 2 is placed in communication with the flat bottom of a guide channel 5 by a light 6. The internal end of the other duct segment 3 is also put in communication with the flat bottom of this guide channel 5 through a lumen 7, while its other end opens out at the front of the body 1 of the instrument and comprises a clamping mandrel 8 for the removable adjustment of a variety of tubular suction nozzles (not shown).
A slide valve valve 9 is slidably mounted in the guide channel 5. It has on its underside adjacent to the bottom of the guide channel 5 which constitutes the seat of this valve 9, three distinct zones, raised relative to this face. It is a central zone 10 which is in the form of an endless wall providing a closed space 11 constituting the drawer of this valve 9, and two zones 12 and 13 arranged near the ends of this valve , so as to prevent the tilting of the valve 9 around the central raised zone 10. Each of the raised zones 12, 13 is divided into two parts providing between them a passage for communication with the atmosphere. A blind hole 9b is formed in the valve 9 partly on the front edge of the raised wall 10.
An annular bulge 14 is formed around the front end of the body 1 of the instrument and serves as a front support for the fingers of the user of the instrument. A bore 15, the front part of which is threaded passes through this bulge 14 parallel to the axis of the body 1 and opens into a bearing surface 16 formed by the front end of the guide channel 5. A rod 17, one end of which is threaded, is engaged in this bore 15 and enters a corresponding bore 18 formed at the front end of the valve 9. The threaded part of this rod 17 is screwed into the threaded part of the bore 15.
A spring 19 mounted on a rod 20 shorter than it is housed on the one hand in a recess 21 formed at the rear end of the channel 5 and in a housing 22 opening at the rear end of the valve 9. A plate 23 fixed by a screw (not shown) on the body 1, covers the rear end of the channel 5. The rear end of the valve 9 ends in a reduced height portion 9a which is capable of sliding under the plate 23 .
The rod 17 and the plate 23 serve to hold the slide valve 9 in the channel 5 in the absence of a vacuum. The plate 23 also serves also to retain the spring 19 in the clearance 21.
As seen in particular in FIG. 1, a vertical stop is formed by a rib 24 projecting from one of the side walls of the guide channel 5. FIG. 2 shows the slide valve seen from below. It can be seen in this figure that a slot 25 extends longitudinally at the end of the slide valve 9. This slot 25 is not in the middle of the width of the valve 9, so as to form an elastic arm 26 This arm 26 has a notch 27 intended to engage on the rib 24.
The corner formed at the free end of this arm 26 and adjacent to the side wall of the guide channel 5 is slightly bevelled while the rib 24 is of semi-cylindrical section so that the force exerted on the valve 9 to move it towards the rear is transformed into a force with transverse component acting on the elastic arm 26 when the rear end of the valve 9 meets the stop 24, thus making it possible to engage the notch 27 on the rib 24, when a sufficient force is exerted on the slide valve 9.
In the position illustrated in fig. 1, the slide valve 9 is pushed against the bearing surface 16, limiting the guide channel towards the front by the spring 19. As can be seen in this FIG. 1, the closed space 11 formed inside the endless wall forming the central raised zone 10 places the ports 6 and 7 in communication and therefore, the suction source connected to the duct segment 2 with the segment of conduit 3. As a result, the endpiece which will be fixed to the front of the body 1 in the clamping mandrel 8 will be placed under vacuum and may grasp electronic, electrical or small mechanical parts or components for example.
When the part or component thus seized is brought to the desired place for its mounting or fixing, the user holding the body of the instrument like a pencil with the index finger placed on the notched top of the valve 9 moves the latter in its guide channel 5 until its rear end meets the rib 24. Passing from the advanced position to the unstable retracted position in elastic support against the rib 24, the lumen 7 passes from the inside 11 of the drawer 10 on the outside, opposite the blind hole 9b which essentially has the role of reducing the necessary stroke of the valve 9 to pass from one to the other position by reducing only locally and gradually the thickness of the wall 10 surrounding the space 11.
In this second position, the duct segment 3 is immediately brought to atmospheric pressure, thus releasing the part or the component which was retained by the vacuum.
To grab another part, it suffices to release the slide valve 9 which is automatically brought back against the bearing 16 by the spring 19 thus restoring the vacuum in the duct segment 2.
During a prolonged stop in the use of this instrument, it suffices to exert on the valve 9 which comes into abutment against the rib 24, a force capable of flexing the arm 26 elastically to bring the groove 27 into engagement with the rib 24, thus maintaining the lumen 6 of the duct segment 2 in the closed space 11 of the drawer 10 and separated from the lumen 7 which remains in communication with the atmosphere.
We note the very great simplicity of the actuation mechanism of this instrument and the small number of parts reducing the cost of assembly. Most of these parts, the body 1 and the valve slide 9 are obtained essentially by plastic molding. The tests carried out showed that it was possible to obtain, at the outlet of the instrument, a depression of the order of more than 80% relative to the source. Operation is silent. A single finger allows the slide valve 9 to be moved by simple sliding between three different positions, giving great ease of use of this instrument.
