The present invention relates to an end termination with a cable lug and a connecting lug on an internally cooled, plastic or rubber-coated electrical power cable, the conductor wires of which are arranged in the end termination region on a support tube which is concentric with the coolant-carrying metal tube.
End terminations of this type are known (CH-PS 513 537), they bring considerable advantages in connection with, for example, water-cooled energy cables, where the electricity generated during operation can adversely affect measuring equipment and the like. In the known end termination, the current is carried from the lead wires via the cable lug to the connection lug. This means that the entire operating current to be transmitted has to be absorbed by the cable lug below the connecting lug, while at the same time the cooling from the inside cannot be fully effective due to the air gap between the metal pipe carrying the coolant and the support pipe. This can result in increased heat emission, possibly also thermal overload, in the end closure area.
The invention is therefore based on the object of finding a way to rule out the risk of increased heat emission to the environment of the cable in operation from the outset.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that in the annular gap between the coolant-carrying metal tube and the support tube is a material filling the gap from the heat-conductive, mechanically deformable material. This measure leads to considerable heat relief in the connection area despite the constant current load. The amount of heat generated by the flow of electricity is easily absorbed by the coolant inside the cable.
The material used according to the proposal of the invention, such as a casting compound containing metal dust, can be arranged in the annular gap. After the mass has been introduced e.g. following the application of the support tube, the annular gap is tightly filled with the material that conducts the heat loss well. The same effect can also be achieved in that the material used is in the form of a shaped strip which is wound or pushed onto the tube carrying the coolant and fills the annular gap tightly after the support tube has subsequently been applied.
A particularly simple and, above all, effective measure results in a further development of the invention if the heat-conducting material is arranged in the form of a paste in the annular gap. In this form, the material is particularly suitable for creating a permanent, thermally conductive bridge between the cooling pipe and the support pipe.
In order to prevent the paste from being pressed out of the annular gap during assembly of the support tube, it is also expedient if the annular gap on the end faces of the support tube is sealed by additional means. Suitable for this is e.g. a sealing wrap or, in the simplest version, a fitted O-ring.
A further possibility of improving the end termination according to the invention with regard to the lowest possible heat development and maximum operational safety consists in arranging the cable lug on both sides of the connection lug, preferably symmetrically to this. This leads to a current relief in the area of the cable lug and thus to a further reduction in the operating heat.
An exemplary embodiment of the end termination according to the invention is described below with the aid of two drawing figures, specifically on a water-cooled cable with a conductor cross section of 400 mm 2 and 2400 A operating current.
The electrical cable 1, as shown in Fig. 1, consists essentially of the water-carrying cooling tube 2 on which the conductor wires 3 e.g. are applied by roping. The conductor wires 3 are covered by the insulation 4. The jacket 5 protects the cable core from external mechanical stresses. A metallic shield can also be applied between the insulation 4 and the jacket 5. With 6 the support tube is designated, which consists of a mechanically resistant metal and prevents the cooling tube 2 from being squeezed or pressed in when the cable lug 7 is pressed onto the lead wires 3 in order to produce the end closure. The connecting lug 8 pointing into the image plane is provided on the cable lug 7.
The inevitable between the cooling tube 2 and the support tube 6 is filled with air and has an insulating effect between the cooling medium located in the cooling tube 2 and the conductor wires 3, which transmit the operating current to the cable lug 7, so that the effect of the coolant in the area of the end termination is hindered. In order to rule this out, a paste 10, for example a polyurethane casting compound containing copper dust, is now provided in the annular gap 9, for example, which forms a thermal bridge between the support tube 6 and the cooling tube 2, so that an almost unhindered heat exchange between the coolant and the live conductor wires 3 can take place.
At the lower end, the annular gap 9 is secured by an O-ring 11. The gap 12 resulting in this area by lifting the conductor wires 3 from the cooling tube 2 can also be filled with a paste 10. This area is also included in the direct heat transfer of the cooling tube 2 conductor wires 3.
1 shows the cable lug 7 with the connecting lug 8 arranged on the end face. In order to reduce the current load in the region lying above all below the connecting lug 8 of the cable lug 7, in order to reduce the heat losses, the connecting lug 8 can advantageously also be centered on the cable lug arrange.
FIG. 2 shows a detail from FIG. 1 on an enlarged scale at point 13. The gap 9 between the cooling tube 2 and the support tube 6 is sealed in the lower region of the support tube by the O-ring 11, which is in the recess 14 the support tube 6 is held. This seal can optionally be dispensed with, in particular if, as is also provided in a further development of the invention, the gap 12 is likewise filled with the paste 10 which is a good conductor of heat.
Instead of paste 10, e.g. a casting compound, possibly also in a conductive form, can be used.
