BESCHREIBUNG
DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a shuttlecock, especially for badminton.
The known shuttlecocks have an approximately hemispherical body, which is provided with a ring of springs. The players usually throw such a shuttlecock outdoors with the help of rackets. However, after sunset at dawn, the game must be stopped soon because the shuttlecock on its path between two players can no longer be perceived with sufficient clarity, although the night has not yet fallen.
The invention aims to allow the continuation of the badminton game in the twilight without hindrance.
For this purpose, a phosphor is added to the shuttlecock. Preferably, according to claim 2, a liquid phosphor is used, which is housed in a transparent, unbreakable, annular envelope which can be easily attached to the shuttlecock between its ball and the springs. At this point, the phosphor contained in the envelope, against which the shuttlecock is thrown, is clearly visible, since the shuttlecock always moves forward with its ball in the air along its path. According to claim 3, a phosphor consisting of two liquid components is advantageously selected which only begins to glow when its two components are mixed together.
Before that, the effectiveness of the phosphor is latent. It is triggered immediately before use. The mixture of the two components is facilitated when used according to claim 4 in that the components are each accommodated in a compartment of the casing and are separated from one another by a wall which can be destroyed from the outside. This wall can consist of a disk which is pressed into a casing made of elastic plastic and which can either be broken by a transverse contraction of the casing or tilted within the casing by 90 ". After this partition wall has disappeared, the two compartments of the casing stand with each other so that the mixing of the two phosphor components can take place.
An embodiment of the shuttlecock according to the invention is shown schematically in the drawing, which shows:
Fig. 1 is a view of the same with a part in section, and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the part cut in Fig. 1.
As usual, the shuttlecock 1 itself has an approximately hemispherical body 2 as a ball, which is provided with a ring of springs 3. Around the shuttlecock, between the body 2 and the springs 3, an annular covering 4 made of elastic, unbreakable, transparent plastic is attached in some way.
For example, the cover 4 can be glued to the shuttlecock 1 or fastened to it by means of a rubber ring or tape.
The envelope 4 originally consists of a tube with a circular cross section. A disc 5 is first pressed into this tube, so that two compartments 6, 7, tightly separated from one another, are formed in the tube in question. The compartments 6, 7 are then filled with one of the two components 8, 9 of a two-phase phosphor. Then the two ends of the hose are each sealed off with a pin 10, 11.
Finally, the hose is curved into a circular ring and the two pins 10, 11 are fastened to one another either by glue or solder.
The product distributed under the Cyalume brand by Cyanamid American Co in Milton, Florida, USA can advantageously be used as a two-phase phosphor. As long as the two phases of that product remain stored separately, they keep their assets in a latent state. But as soon as they are mixed together, that fortune is expressed in the form of a bright, thorough light. The lighting effect then lasts for a few hours.
The ring 12 consisting of the casing 4 filled with liquids 8, 9 can be stored with the undisturbed disk 5 for a long time.
If the usual shuttlecock is no longer visible towards evening, a ring 12 is placed on the shuttlecock 1 as described above. The disk 5 is to be destroyed immediately before or after this assembly. This is done by means of a transverse construction exerted on the casing 4 with two fingers. The desired destruction of the pane 5 can take place by breaking it, if the pane 5 is made of a fragile material such as glass. In order to rule out inadvertent destruction of the pane 5, the latter is preferably made of an unbreakable material.
No longer the pane 5 itself, but only its position is then destroyed by exerting the transverse contraction of the casing 4 with one finger immediately in front of the pane 5 and with the opposite finger directly behind the pane 5. This causes the disc 5 to tilt 90 "within the casing 4 so that its two compartments 6, 7 are then connected to one another. As a result, the two components 8, 9 can mix with one another. The mixture can be completed by shaking the casing 4. After the two components 8, 9 have been completely mixed with one another, the ring 12 lights up in its entire extent.
Thanks to the fluorescent described, the shuttlecock according to the invention remains clearly visible even when the badminton game is continued in the dark.
