BESCHREIBUNG

DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a starter device for a fluorescent lamp according to the preamble of claim 1. In particular, the starter device relates to the type in which the start of the fluorescent lamp is carried out by an induction voltage substance, which after a certain preheating time of the tube electrodes causes shock and thereby Gas column of the tube lamp set to glow.
The most widespread have been those starter devices that use a so-called glow starter as a starter element. The glow starter has a simple structure and is inexpensive to manufacture, but its widespread type cannot be designed for a long service life. However, this is not very important because it is generally easy to replace because of its switchability or easy interchangeability.
A major disadvantage, again due to its structure, is its tendency to cause multiple ignitions (flickering) of the fluorescent lamp when the ignition is caused by the internal bimetal electrode arrangement around the current zero crossing.
Starter devices with hot wire thermostars are also known. Although these are better aligned to the functionality of the fluorescent lamp than the glow starter, their construction requires a ballast choke specially designed for this purpose with a winding tap or a separate winding to provide the heating voltage, which is a fraction of the starting or operating voltage. For practical reasons, the Hitzdrant thermal starter is integrated in the inductor circuit so that it is usually difficult to replace it if it breaks down. The hot-wire thermal starter also requires a very precise structure and precise contact adjustment. In order to keep the risk of defects low, such starter devices are built in a complex manner and are therefore expensive. They are therefore mainly used where reliable operation is important.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a starter device for a fluorescent lamp, in which a starter is used in which the advantages of the glow starter, namely its simple and therefore inexpensive construction, are combined with the operational advantages of the hot-wire thermostarter. Above all, the requirements for precision in production should be lower and adjustment work can be omitted. Furthermore, a simpler series choke without tapping or a special heating winding should be usable, for example to make it possible to install it in a glow starter fluorescent lamp arrangement by means of a simple circuit measure.
The solution to this problem is defined by the characterizing features of claim 1. Embodiments thereof emerge from the dependent claims.
The most important advantages of a starter device according to the invention are, in particular, a starting process which is gentle on the tube lamp, in which the tube is ignited without flickering. The service life of the tube can be significantly increased by optimizing or shortening the preheating time. Any standard ballast choke can be used and the starter can also be retrofitted as a replacement for a glow or hot wire thermostarter. Its components can be designed for a long service life at a low price. Installation in a gas-tight housing means that it can be operated independently of environmental influences and is possible in a temperature range between -20 C and approx. 70 "C.
An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing.
It shows:
1 is a simplified circuit diagram of a known starter device for a fluorescent lamp using a glow starter,
2 shows a simplified circuit diagram of a known starter device using a hot-wire thermostarter,
Fig. 3 is a circuit diagram of the starter device according to the invention and
4a, b in a schematic representation, in side and plan view, the construction of a thermostarter according to the starter device according to the invention, on an enlarged scale.
In the known glow starter circuit according to FIG. 1, there is a choke coil 1, the first (heating) filament 2 and the second (heating) filament 3 of a fluorescent tube lamp 4 in the supply circuit (operating circuit) AB, and possibly a second choke coil 5 in the case of a double choke coil with the ballast. The (heating) coils 2 and 3 are located via their one terminals 2.1 and 3.1 in the supply circuit. The other terminals 2.2, 3.2 of the (heating) coils 2, 3 are located in the glow starter circuit section 6, which contains a glow starter 9 that can be removed via external contact elements 7, 8. In a glow tube 10 there is a pair of glow electrodes 11 that are open during operation. These are connected to a small capacitor 12.
If the fluorescent tube lamp 4 is to be switched on by applying the mains voltage UN, the gas in the tube lamp 4 is not ionized. A circuit via the choke coil 1, the first (heating) coil 2, the glow starter 9, the second (heating) coil 3 and the (possibly symmetrical) second choke coil 5 is closed. The full mains voltage is at the glow starter 9 because the gas in the tube lamp 4 still has an insulating effect. Therefore, the gas in the glow starter begins to glow, as a result of which the (bimetal) glow electrodes 11 are heated and come closer to one another and finally touch one another. When the glow electrodes 11 are closed, the capacitor 12 produces a small contact weld.
Now the actual preheating of the fluorescent tube lamp begins, which takes so long until the (bimetallic) glow electrodes 11, which are now cooling, separate again, somewhat delayed by the small welding. At the moment when the (bimetallic) glow electrodes 11 separate, a high induction voltage is generated by the inductor 1. If this happens at the current zero crossing, the process is repeated. This high voltage is now due to the parallel connection of the fluorescent tube lamp 4 (filaments 2 and 3) and the glow starter 9. On the one hand, the desired shock ionization is generated in the tube lamp 4, but at the same time the (bimetal) glow electrodes are heated again, which now short circuit again. This repeats the starting process.
The result is a flickering of the fluorescent tube lamp 6, which can take a few seconds until the tube lamp 4 burns.
In the known hot-wire thermal starter circuit according to FIG. 2, there is again a choke coil 1.1, the first (heating) filament 2 and the second (heating) filament 3 of a fluorescent tube lamp 4.1 in the supply circuit (operating circuit) AB, which are basically the same Properties such as the tube lamp 4 in FIG. 1 can have, as well as a second choke coil 5 in the case of a double choke coil in the ballast. The (heating) coils 2 and 3 are also here via their one terminals 2.1 and 3.1 in the supply circuit.
The other terminals 2.2 and 3.2 of the (heating) filaments 2, 3 are located in a starting circuit section 14 and a contact 15 which is closed but operationally open when the fluorescent lamp 4.1 is switched off (in the idle state) and which is open from the hot wire 16 of a hot wire starter 17 is controlled, the contact 15 being mechanically coupled to the hot wire, which lengthens when heated. The hot wire 16 is connected to a potential Us between a choke coil tap or the end 1.2 of a special heating winding on the choke coil 1.1 and the tube-side terminal of the choke coil 1.1, which is a fraction of the mains voltage UN.
The characteristic of the hot wire starter 17 is predetermined by the voltage level of Us in the start and operating state of the tubular lamp 4.1; such a starter is therefore bound to the data of the ballast.
A capacitor 18, which is preferably connected between the tube-side terminals of the choke coil 1, 5, serves for interference suppression.
If the fluorescent tube lamp 4.1 is switched on by applying the mains voltage UN, the heating current initially flows via the still closed contact 15 in the hot wire starter 17 through the two heating filaments 2, 3 of the tube lamp 4.1.
At the same time, the hot wire 16 is also heated, which expands in the process, so that the contact 15 opens after about 2 seconds. A high induction voltage is generated in the choke coil 1.1 / 5 and the tube lamp 4.1 is ignited if the contact opening does not coincide with a zero current crossing. Otherwise the hot wire 16 cools down at most, the contact 15 closes again and the process is repeated. It follows from this that the hot wire 16 performs only slight movements. A great precision of the adjustment is therefore required in order to master the contact movements.
When the tube lamp 4.1 has ignited, the voltage Us stabilizes. It is then at a value which is sufficient to keep the hot wire 16 at a temperature which ensures that the contact 15 remains open during the operation of the tubular lamp 4.1.
Now that the known starter devices for fluorescent lamps with glow starters and hot-wire thermostats have been described in principle, the starter device according to the invention is shown below with reference to FIGS. 3 and 4a, 4b analogous to the explanations given above.
The ballast with a single choke coil 1 or a double choke coil 1, 5 can basically be provided with an interference suppression capacitor 18 as in FIGS. 1, 2; however, tapping or heating voltage winding on the choke coil is not necessary. In the supply circuit (operating circuit) AB there is the choke coil 1, a heating element 20 for heating a bimetallic strip 21 with snap bias and contact members 22 which are closed in the idle state (inoperative position), further the first (heating) coil 2 and the second (heating ) Filament 3 of the fluorescent lamp 4.2, and possibly a second choke coil 5 in the case of a double choke coil in the ballast. The (heating) coils 2, 3 are, as in FIGS. 1 and 2, with their one terminals 2.1 and 3.1 in the supply circuit.
The other terminals 2.2 and 3.2 of the (heating) filaments 2, 3 are in a starting circuit section 23 with the contact arrangement 21, 22 (bimetallic strips 21, contact members 22), which are closed when the fluorescent lamp 4.2 is switched off (idle state), but is operationally open. The contact arrangement 21, 22 is designed as a snap-action switching device in order to avoid a gradual switching process.
The heating element 20 and the contact arrangement 21, 22 are expediently enclosed in an airtight housing 24.
This can be filled with a protective gas, for example.
This measure extends the lifespan of the active elements 20, 21, 22 of the starter designated overall by S and allows the starter device to be operated even in explosion-proof rooms. These active elements, together with the housing, can be designed as a manipulable thermal starter element S, on the outside of which are arranged plug elements 25 - 28 which can be inserted into a socket set and which in turn are connected to electrically conductive support members 29 penetrating the housing 24. In contrast to the known embodiments of the starter devices according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the heating element 20 which controls the starting circuit is located in the supply circuit A-B. It must therefore be designed for the starting and operating current of the fluorescent lamp.
At the same time, it is ensured that if the heating element 20 is defective, the feed circuit A-B of the tubular lamp 4.2 is interrupted and the heating filaments can no longer be subjected to stress. This also prevents any damage to the tube lamp.
Because the heating winding 20 is flowed through by the heating current of the tube 4.2 when the fluorescent tube lamp 4.2 is switched on, the contact arrangement 21, 22 functions reliably and thus a safe starting process.
The lower operating current of the tubular lamp compared to the starting current results in a lower load with a longer service life for the heating winding 20. Due to the lack of precisely adjustable components or contacts, the advantages of thermostars can be fully exploited without having to put up with complicated and expensive production. The absence of a separate heating voltage means that simple and correspondingly cheap ballasts or
Choke coils too.
