The commercially available saddles on vehicles such as bicycles, light and heavy motorcycles are designed to be resilient and attached to a sturdy tube support, which is mounted on the vehicle frame and is adjustable in height. The suspension was unsatisfactory on long journeys and poor road conditions, and even trained drivers were not spared from seat problems and injuries to the buttocks, which was also nothing to change foam covers on the saddles.
The task is to improve the seat post mentioned at the outset in such a way that not only the saddle but also the associated support is given efficient, wear-resistant suspension.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features defined in the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Further advantageous embodiments of the invention result from the following description of an embodiment and the dependent claims 2 to 6 individually or in combination.
The invention is explained below with reference to the drawing, for example:
1 shows the rear part of a bicycle with saddle and seat post,
2 is a side view of the seat post alone,
3 shows a longitudinal section of the same on a somewhat larger scale,
4 shows a cross section along the line IV-IV in FIG. 3,

Fig. 9 shows a variant in side view with partial section.
1 denotes the rear part of a bicycle, in the seat tube 2 'of the frame 2, the seat post 3 is adjustably inserted in a known manner. The seat post 3 is formed by a support rod 4 and a holding tube 5, which are telescopically inserted into one another.
The lower part of the holding tube 5 is inserted into the seat tube 2 'and locked in this in a conventional manner. The support rod 4 has a clamp-like connecting member 6, on which a carrier piece 7 'of the saddle 7 is clamped. An upper part 4 'of the support rod 4 is round, while the lower, longer part 4 "is hexagonal. The holding tube 5 is round on the circumferential side, and has an angular, narrow collar 8 at the top for grasping a tool key (not particularly shown). At the lower end the support rod 4, a screw bolt 9 is attached, which passes through the holding tube 5 and protrudes from the end plate 5 'below.
A helical spring 10 is pushed onto the screw bolt 9, which is supported on the one hand on the lower end face 4 'of the support rod 4 and on the other hand on the inside of the cover plate 5'. An adjusting nut 11 is screwed onto the part of the screw bolt 9 protruding from the end plate 5 ', by means of which the screw bolt 9 is moved out of or into the outer tube when the screw bolt 9 is turned. The tension of the coil spring 10 is increased or decreased. The part of the support rod 4 is provided in the area of the flat edge surfaces 15 at a distance from one another with channels 13 running transversely to the axis thereof, in each of which a roller 14 lies. The channels 13 with the rollers 14 on the edge surfaces 15 of the support rod 4 are offset from one another in the height direction.
The rollers 14 are supported on the inside on the edge surfaces 15 and on the outside on the edge surfaces 16 of the likewise hexagonal inside of the holding tube 5. The edge surfaces 15 on the support rod 4 and the edge surfaces 16 on the inside of the holding tube 5 are uniform to match one another.
When driving, the support rod 4 with the saddle 7 performs upward and downward play movements during the vibrations, and the rollers 14 roll between the edge surfaces 15, 16. With the described seat post, an efficient suspension is obtained, the wear of which is low, since the Rolling support by means of the rollers 14 extends both on the longitudinal and on the peripheral region of the part of the support rod 4 which engages in the holding tube 5.
By turning the adjusting nut 11, the tension of the helical spring 10 can be changed and thus the elasticity of the support rod 4 with the saddle 7 can be regulated in the movement play caused by vibrations.
In the variant according to FIG. 9, the adjusting nut 11 'is cylindrical, consists of plastic and contains a metal sleeve 17 with a nut thread 18. The adjusting nut 11' carries a sleeve 19 made of transparent material, into which the lower end of the screw bolt 9 projects. The sleeve 19 has circumferential lines 20, thanks to which the position of the lower part of the bolt 9 can be seen. The tension of the coil spring 10 can be seen from the position of the screw bolt 9. The tension of the coil spring 10 can be changed within limits and thus adapted to the weight of the driver.
The seat post is suitable for all types of vehicles where the driver sits on a saddle. A rubber-elastic sealing cap 21, shown in dot-dash lines, is placed on the collar 8 and prevents the penetration of foreign substances between the support rod 4 and the holding tube 5.
