REVENDICATIONS

CLAIMS
1. Motor vehicle wheel rim with pneumatic tire, characterized in that it is arranged so as to allow the mounting of a plurality of tires.
2. Rim according to claim 1, characterized in that its periphery has an odd number of profiles, at least equal to three, each of which allows the fitting of a tire.
3. Motor vehicle having at least four wheels, at least two of which, mounted in symmetrical positions on either side of the vehicle, each comprise a rim according to one of claims I or 2.
4. Vehicle according to claim 3, characterized in that each of its wheels comprises a rim according to one of claims I or 2.
The subject of the present invention is a vehicle wheel rim with a pneumatic strip and a motor vehicle provided with wheels comprising such a rim.
There is a tendency, at present, to provide the wheels of fast cars with pneumatic tires with a large cross section having a large contact surface with the ground. Such bandages have the advantage of excellent grip on dry roads as well as that of ensuring remarkable road holding, a notable improvement over bandages with a narrow section or even bandages of the so-called normal type, thanks to the fact that their profile has a height / width ratio significantly less than unity, for example from 0.5 to 0.7. On the other hand, it has been found that, on wet roads, wide section pneumatic tires are, at equal speed, more easily subject to skidding owing to the phenomenon known as aquaplaning than normal type tires and section tires narrow.
We tried to mitigate this drawback by giving the tread patterns a shape intended to promote the elimination of water between the ground and the tread, but the results achieved so far in this way still leave to be desired.
The object of the invention is in particular to provide a simple and effective solution to the problem which has just been mentioned.
To this end, the wheel rim according to the invention is characterized in that it is arranged so as to allow the mounting of a plurality of tires.
Preferably, the periphery of the rim has an odd number of profiles, at least equal to three, each of which allows the fitting of a tire.
The invention will be better understood thanks to the detailed description which follows of an exemplary embodiment, with reference to the appended drawing, the single figure of which is a partial view, in section, of an embodiment of the rim according to the invention.
In the embodiment shown in the drawing, the periphery of the rim 1 has three profiles 2a, 2b and 2c, each of which allows the mounting of a respective tire 3a, 3b and 3c. Furthermore, rim I is similar to known rims.
The neighboring tires, 3a and 3b, on the one hand, and 3b and 3c, on the other hand, are separated by intervals 4 and 4 ′ whose width is sufficient to avoid contact between the sidewalls of the tires as well when these the latter undergo the deformations resulting from the highest stresses to which they may be subjected during their use, in particular in tight turns taken at very high speed, than at rest. Thus, each of the tires behaves, from the point of view of its tendency to aquaplaning, as if it were alone.
It can be seen that the total height / width ratio of the assembly formed by the three tires 3a, 3b and 3c is considerably lower than the height / width ratio of each of these three tires. Thus, by using three tires having a relatively high aspect ratio, for example tires of the so-called normal type, it is possible to obtain an assembly having a total aspect ratio corresponding to that of a single tire with a wide section or even very large. The road holding characteristics of the wheel thus equipped are therefore similar to those which result from the use of a wide tire while avoiding the corresponding increase in the risk of aquaplaning.
The fitting of three tires (or, more generally, of an odd number of tires at least equal to three) per rim has the particular advantage of imparting good maneuverability and good stability in the case of the front axle wheels. a motor vehicle. It is however understood that the invention extends to a rim allowing the fitting of any number of tires, at least equal to two.
On the other hand, although the profiles 2a, 2b and 2c have been shown in the drawing in an identical form, these profiles could possibly have different shapes and / or dimensions, so as to allow the simultaneous mounting of tires of different characteristics on the same rim.
The invention makes it possible to obtain an additional advantage, of an economic nature, because the price of normal or narrow section tires is much lower than that of wide section tires. Thus, for example, the fitting of three tires of dimensions 125 × 15, which are normally intended for the equipment of automobiles having modest performances, makes it possible to obtain an assembly having a height / width ratio comparable to that an tire with an extra large section. Such an assembly is suitable for equipping powerful cars capable of very high performance, while allowing, compared to the case of the usual use of a single tire with an extra large section per wheel, a considerable reduction in the risk. aquaplaning, without altering the handling.
The use of several tires per rim instead of one constitutes, in addition, a safety element by limiting the risk of accident in the event of a puncture or bursting of tire and it avoids having to change the wheel at the location where such an incident occurs, thereby eliminating the need for a spare tire.
As a tire, use will be made of normal type tires or of narrow section tires, but the invention is in no way limited to the use of a given type of tire. The valves of each or some of the tires mounted on the same rim can advantageously be connected to a common valve in order to facilitate inflation. It is also particularly advantageous to equip rims according to the invention both the front wheels and the rear wheels of a vehicle.
