Abstract
In order to protect an arbitrary optical fibre unit against mechanical destruction such as can occur as a consequence of tensile or compressive stresses through tearing or rupture of the fibres of a unit, only one unit end is firmly mounted in its end piece (2) in the case of a fibre unit (4) installed in a flexible body (1), while the other unit end has in its end piece (3) a free, sliding bearing, as a result of which the effect of stresses due to shifting of the unit end can be compensated. <IMAGE>

PATENTANSPRUCH

PATENT CLAIM
Protection device for a glass fiber bundle, which is installed in a flexible body, characterized in that at least one glass fiber bundle end in an associated
End piece of the flexible body is slidably mounted by a free, sliding displacement movement which otherwise at the
Bending tensile or compressive stress and thereby to prevent mechanical destruction of the fiber bundle.
Glass fiber bundles, such as those used for optical light or image transmission, are characterized by good flexibility. Despite this flexibility, stronger pull or lead
Compressive stresses of fiber bundles, the bundles of which are firmly attached, will certainly destroy the bundle after a while by tearing or breaking the fibers.
This risk is defined by the one defined in the claim
Invention switched off.
1 shows a so-called gooseneck, the flexible part 1 of which is closed by two end pieces 2 and 3. A glass fiber bundle 4 is mounted inside this gooseneck. This glass fiber bundle is firmly cemented in the end piece 2, but is freely slidably mounted in the end piece 3 with the end sleeve 5.
Fig. 2 shows the gooseneck in the bent state.
It can be seen here that the end sleeve 5 of the glass fiber bundle 4 has been drawn into the end piece 3 by the difference 6 as a result of the tensile stress that has occurred, thus relieving the glass fiber bundle and protecting it from damage.
