Smp.

EMI1.4
wherein R Cl-C4-alkyl, Cl-C4-alkoxy or halogen, Rl Cl-C3-alkyl, Ci-Ci-alkoxy or halogen, R2 hydrogen, Cl-C3-alkyl, Cl-C4-alkoxy or halogen, R3 hydrogen or are methyl, the total number of carbon atoms of the substituents R, Rl, R2 and R3 in the phenyl ring not exceeding 8, R4 is hydrogen or methyl.
The invention further relates to the compounds of formula I prepared by the process disclosed herein.
Alkyl or as an alkyl part of an alkylthio or alkoxy group means the following groups, depending on the number of carbon atoms indicated: methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, sec. Butyl or tert.butyl.
Halogen is to be understood as fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine.
It has been found that pyrazolylmethyl denvates of the formula I have a microbicide spectrum which is very favorable for practical needs for the protection of crop plants, without adversely affecting them by undesirable side effects. They are active against the phytopathogenic fungi belonging to the following classes: Ascomycetes; Basidiomycetes; Fungi imperfect and especially against the pathogens belonging to the class of the Oomycetes.

EMI1.5
in the presence of a proton acceptor such as butyl lithium
or Na hydride with a 2-halo-4-butyrolactone of the formula III

produced.
In formulas II and III, R to R4 have the meaning given for formula I, while halo is halogen, preferably chlorine or bromine.
The reactions can be carried out in the presence or absence of solvents or diluents which are inert to the reactants. For example, the following are suitable: aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, xylenes, petroleum ether, halogenated hydrocarbons such as chlorobenzene, methylene chloride, ethylene chloride, chloroform; Ether and ethereal compounds such as dialkyl ether, dioxane, tetrahydrofuran; Nitriles such as acetonitrile; N, N-dialkylated amides such as dimethylformamide; Dimethyl sulfoxide, ketones such as methyl ethyl ketone and mixtures of such solvents with one another.
To prepare the acylated product II, starting from an appropriately substituted aniline, the pyrazolylacetic acid itself or its esters, but advantageously the acid anhydride, or one of the acid halides, preferably the acid chloride or acid bromide, can be used.
The reaction temperatures are between 0 and 180 "C.
preferably between 20 and 1200. In some cases, the use of acid-binding agents or condensing agents is advantageous. Tertiary amines such as trialkylamines (e.g. triethylamine), pyridine and pyridine bases, or inorganic bases such as the oxides and hydroxides, bicarbonates and carbonates of alkali and alkaline earth metals and sodium acetate are suitable as such.
The compounds of formula I have in the lactone radical
EMI2.2
one (*) and in the case R4 = CH3 a second (**) asymmetry center and can be split into optical antipodes in the usual way (e.g. fractional crystallization or chromatographic separation). The different configurations have different levels of microbicidal activity.
Unless a specific synthesis for the isolation of pure isomers of formula 1 or the butyrolactone used is carried out, a product is normally obtained as a mixture of isomers.
The following example serves to explain the invention in more detail without restricting it. The temperature specifications relate to degrees Celsius. h stands for hour.

b) Production of the end product
1.7 g of a 55% sodium hydride oil dispersion are placed in 15 ml of tetrahydrofuran under a nitrogen atmosphere and with vigorous stirring with a solution of 8.0 g of N- (2,6-dimethylphenyl-N- (1'-pyrazolyl) acetylamide in To complete the salt formation, the mixture is refluxed for a further 0.5 h after the spontaneous evolution of hydrogen has subsided, and after cooling the solution to room temperature, a solution of 6.1 g of a-bromobutyrolactone in 10 ml of tetrahydrofuran is added dropwise , the internal temperature rising to 28. The resulting brown suspension is heated under reflux for 14 h, a solution of 1.5 g of a-bromobutyrolactone in 5 ml of tetrahydrofuran is added and the mixture is boiled for 4 h.
The major part of the solvent is then distilled off, the residue is cooled to room temperature, mixed with ice water and extracted with methylene chloride. The combined extracts are washed with water, dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated.
The oily residue crystallizes when diethyl ether / hexane is added. Recrystallization from tetrahydrofuran / heptane gives pure 3- (N-1,2-pyrazol-1-yl-acetyl) -N- (2,6-dimethylphenyl) -amino-tetrahydro-2-furanone. M.p.
