RIVENDICAZIONI
Tray, characterized in that the body of the tray is made up of a rigid flat plate of plastic laminate based on a thermosetting resin, the perimeter of which is embedded in an injection molded thermoplastic synthetic resin frame all around the plate .
Tray according to claim 1, characterized in that the frame has local thickenings, acting as spacers when the tray is stacked with other identical trays.
La presente invenzione si riferisce a vassoi di laminato plastico, particolarmente destinati a servizi collettivi (mense aziendali, ristoranti self-service, treni, aerei, ecc.), nei quali i vassoi devono essere manipolati in quantità relativamente grandi ed a velocità sostenuta negli impianti centralizzati di raccolta, lavaggio, sterilizzazione, asciugatura, impilaggio, distribuzione, ecc.The present invention relates to plastic laminate trays, particularly intended for collective services (company canteens, self-service restaurants, trains, planes, etc.), in which the trays must be handled in relatively large quantities and at high speed in the plants centralized collection, washing, sterilization, drying, stacking, distribution, etc.
Until now, the most suitable trays for these uses have been molded of plastic laminates based on thermosetting resins of the phenol/formaldehyde, melamine/formaldehyde or possibly urea/formaldehyde type. The term «plastic laminate» means a stratified material, formed by sheets of paper, fabric (also «non-woven»), or wood, impregnated with thermosetting resin and molded with the application of heat to form a rigid monolithic structure . These trays are excellently resistant to washing conditions with the most varied synthetic detergents, heat sterilization conditions, fats, AEDs (e.g. vinegar), alcoholic liquids and staining substances. The surface of such a tray also has a satisfactory impact and scratch resistance, especially when the thermosetting resin is a melamine resin. At the same time, however, these trays have a non-negligible drawback, which lies in the chipping of the edges under impacts which occur most easily in the manipulations mentioned above. Another drawback derives from the fact that, in the stacked condition, these trays are found practically adhering to each other, as a result of which the circulation of fluid (e.g. drying air) between the trays in the stack is substantially hindered or prevented, and also the removal of the trays from the pile is difficult due to the «gluing effect». It is true that this latter drawback can be avoided or reduced by forming on the edge of the tray, during the molding step, conveniently distributed protuberances, which act as spacers in the stacked condition of the trays; however, since here we are dealing with molding combined with thermosetting, this expedient has a considerable impact on the cost of the moulds.
The object of the present invention is to avoid the aforementioned drawbacks.
The tray according to the invention is characterized in that the body of the tray is made up of a rigid flat plate of plastic laminate based on a thermosetting resin, the perimeter edge of which is embedded in a fully injection molded thermoplastic synthetic resin frame. around the slab.
Thus, it is possible to choose for said frame a suitable injection-mouldable thermoplastic synthetic resin composition which has satisfactory impact-resistant properties, such as to effectively protect the edge of the plate. Optionally, the composition can also comprise a filler material consisting of glass fibers, to further increase the impact resistance. The thermoplastic synthetic resin can consist, for example, of an ABS terpolymer, impact resistant polystyrene, polycarbonate or polyamide. However, isotactic polypropylene is preferred, such as MOPLEN (registered trademark) of Montedi-son S.p.A., thanks to its excellent resistance to all other factors, including heat sterilization.
Since the frame is injection molded directly on the perimeter edge of the slab, it adheres tightly to the slab, so that no cracks or interstices can form between the slab and the frame in which dirt can accumulate.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the frame has local thickenings or protuberances, acting as spacers when the tray is stacked with other identical trays. Obtaining these thickenings or protuberances with molds for injection molding of thermoplastic resins does not present any difficulties or significant burdens.
A particular advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the body of the tray, ie the thermoset laminate part, is nothing more than a simple flat plate, which can be obtained with maximum ease and economy. The shape of the slab (and therefore of the tray) can be chosen as desired. The most typical shape is the rectangular one with rounded corners.
An embodiment of the tray according to the invention is illustrated in the attached drawings, provided purely by way of non-limiting example, in which:
la fig. 1 è una vista prospettica dall'alto;the fig. 1 is a top perspective view;
la fig. 2 è una vista prospettica dal basso;the fig. 2 is a bottom perspective view;
3 is a cross section along the line III-III of fig. 1, and fig. 4 is a fragmentary cross-section taken along line IV-IV of FIG. 1, with the tray according to the invention stacked with another identical tray.
The illustrated tray comprises a body consisting of a flat rigid plate 10 of a laminate obtained from Kraft paper sheets impregnated with thermosetting melamine resin.
The corner rounding radius is approximately 4.5 cm. The upper face 10A of the plate 10 is preferably constituted by a very thin non-slip layer obtained by vulcanizing a mixture of 100 parts by weight of chlorosulphonated polyethylene rubber (for example HYPALON 20 by Du Pont de Nemours) with 5-50 parts by weight of a melamine/formaldehyde resin in powder form and with about 5 parts by weight of vulcanizer (e.g. zinc oxide and/or magnesium oxide).
All around the plate 10 a MOPLEN frame 12 is injection molded directly on the edge 10B of the plate. As can be seen in particular in fig. 3 the frame 12 forms around the plate 10 a side 14 inclined by about 45°, and the profile of the frame comprises two continuous lips 16, 18 at the bottom between which the edge 10B is sealed for a depth of about 3-4 mm .
4.Each of the four arches 12A of the frame 12 corresponding to the rounded corners of the plate 10 has, along the outer edge of the frame, a thickening or heel 20 protruding downwards, while the straight portions of the frame have no such heel. The heels 20 are injection molded integrally with the frame and serve to distance the desired amount of one tray from another in the stacked position, as seen in FIG. 4.
