CLAIMS
1. Sensor for magnetic ink detector, comprising a magnetic head fixed on a support, characterized in that the head is sheltered by a rigid wall made of non-magnetic material.
2. Sensor according to claim 1, characterized in that the wall is constituted by a brass sheet with a thickness of about 0.3 mm.
3. Sensor according to claim 2, characterized in that the sheet is curved so as to substantially match the curvature of the magnetic head.
4. Sensor according to one of claims 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that said support is mounted in an adjustable manner in a housing of which a wall is constituted by said protective wall, so as to allow an adjustment of the distance between the magnetic head and the protective wall.
The subject of the present invention is a sensor for a magnetic ink detector for reading or checking documents or even positioning a sheet in a full color printing process.
When a magnetic head having a very high inductivity is used so as to obtain a sensor of very high sensitivity, it can be seen that if the sheet to be checked, which at very close distance from the head, abuts against this head, these shocks cause voltage spikes that disturb reading.
The object of the invention is to avoid these disturbances.
For this purpose, the sensor is characterized in that the head is sheltered by a rigid wall made of non-magnetic material.
This wall is preferably formed by a sheet of brass, but any other non-magnetic material, metallic or otherwise, could be used.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 shows a profile view of the sensor.
Figure 2 shows a plan view.
The sensor comprises a brass housing 1 housing a support 2 made of synthetic material and closed from above by a cover 3. The upper corners of the walls of the housing 1 are joined by a cross member 4. The support 2 carries a magnetic head 5 at very high inductivity, for example a magnetic head of the type sold by BOGEN. This head has a threaded rod and it is fixed by means of a nut 6 on the support 2. The head is connected to a connector 7 fixed on the support. At its front part the housing is closed by a bent sheet of brass 8, with a thickness of approximately 0.3 mm, located at a distance of approximately 0.1 mm from the head.
The support 2 is fixed to the housing 1 by means of a screw 9 passing through an oblong hole 10 in the housing so that it is possible to modify the position of the support relative to the housing and thus to adjust the optimal distance between the magnetic head and sheet 8.
It is found that the protective wall does not reduce, as might have been feared, the detecting qualities of the head. The detector in fact tolerates a variation in distance between the wall, for example the brass sheet, and the sheet to be checked from 0 to 1.5 mm. Another advantage lies in the fact that the sheet can slide on the bent sheet without further sliding, which makes it possible to ensure a constant distance between the sheet to be read and the magnetic head, without risk of wear or soiling.
