Description
The invention relates generically to a device for the final storage of radioactive waste materials, in particular radioactive nuclear power plant waste materials - with a normalized shielding function of a shielding material consisting of a shielding material and a receiving space for the waste materials. - The standardization may be company standards or official standards. In any case, the standardized repository containers are only optimally designed to shield a certain radioactivity. A specific, standardized repository container only fulfills its standardized shielding function if (generally formulated) the radioactivity to be shielded is not too great. If it is larger than the standardization stipulates, the standardized repository can not be used. Rather, a repository container of a different standard, which is designed to shield greater radioactivity, must be used. If the radioactivity to be shielded is too small, the shielding container is not optimally used. As a result, e.g. B. a nuclear power plant or an institute involved in the disposal of a nuclear power plant must have a large number of repository containers standardized for different radioactivity to be shielded, which is expensive
The invention has for its object to provide a device for the final storage of radioactive waste, which makes it possible to use certain repositories of certain standardization set up for shielding a given radioactivity even when it is a matter of accommodating waste of greater radioactivity.
To achieve this object, the invention teaches that a smaller auxiliary container is inserted into the receiving space of the final storage container for the waste materials, a plurality of auxiliary containers of different sizes being assigned to one final storage container, and that the space between the inner wall of the final storage container and auxiliary container is provided by shielding material that is subsequently introduced is filled In order to position the auxiliary container, spacers can be arranged between the auxiliary container and the inner wall of the final storage container.
The invention is based on the knowledge that a repository container standardized in a certain way can also be used to hold radioactive waste materials of higher activity than they correspond to the standardization if additional shielding is implemented - and realizes this additional shielding in a simple manner by a space for the additional shielding is created using an auxiliary container. Auxiliary containers and additional shielding can be set up without difficulty in such a way that optimization is again achieved, i. H. such that the auxiliary container holds an optimal volume of the waste material of higher radioactivity if the intermediate space has a certain thickness and is filled with a shielding material of a certain structure. It goes without saying that, in the device according to the invention, both the final storage container and the auxiliary container can be designed with and without a removable lid. If it is an embodiment with a detachable lid, a space must of course also be created between the auxiliary container and the lid, which is filled with additional shielding material, or the lid must be designed accordingly from the outset. It is within the scope of the invention to utilize the intermediate space for auxiliary functions, for example to place heating rods in the intermediate space or to arrange pipes for the reception of heating rods if it is a device in which degassing or evaporation of the radioactive waste materials introduced into the auxiliary container is also involved to be carried out.
The advantages achieved can be seen in the fact that standardized repository containers of one and the same standardization can be used for a wide variety of shielding functions in a device according to the invention. A nuclear power plant or an institute for the disposal of nuclear power plants is therefore no longer required to keep a large stock of differently standardized repository containers. - The radioactive waste materials can be introduced into the device according to the invention by any suitable method.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of a drawing which represents only one exemplary embodiment. It shows a schematic illustration

The device shown in the figures is intended for the final storage of radioactive waste materials, in particular radioactive nuclear power plant waste materials. The device includes a final storage container 2 with a standardized shielding function made of shielding material, which has a receiving space 3 for the waste materials A. Such containers are known in the most varied of embodiments Embodiment, the receiving space 3 directly receives the radioactive waste A. Because of the standardized screening function, the overall design is only optimal if waste materials A of certain radioactivity are introduced into the receiving space 3 in a certain amount.
According to the invention, as can be seen from a comparative examination of the two figures, auxiliary containers 1 can be used in the receiving space 3 for the waste materials A. A plurality of auxiliary containers 1 of different sizes are assigned to a final storage container 2. The drawings show only two auxiliary containers 1, but more than two auxiliary containers 1 of a certain size can be assigned to a standardized final storage container 2. The space between the inner wall of the final storage container 2 and the auxiliary container 1 is filled by shielding material 4 which is subsequently introduced. There are spacers 5 between the auxiliary container 1 and the inner wall of the final storage container 2. In FIG. 1 it is indicated that auxiliary units are also present in the intermediate space between the auxiliary container 1 and the inner wall of the final storage container 2 8 can be accommodated in the form of heating elements or the like,

In order to use the device according to the invention to store radioactive waste A of a certain radioactivity in a final deposit, the final storage container 2 is, as it were, designed for the weakest radioactivity, so that optimal shielding is achieved when the receiving space 3 is completely filled with a waste of this radioactivity.
