Abstract

The liquid-crystal cell (12), which is constructed in the display region as a transmitted-light cell, is adapted in a depression (13) to a backing plate (11) inserted in the time piece housing (10). In the region of its surface opposite the liquid-crystal cell, the backing plate has reflection surfaces (15, 18, 19), which deflect light falling on the backing plate onto the cell. A portion (18, 19) of these reflection surfaces is configured as a recess (17) which is formed in the underside (16) of the backing plate and has light-deflecting surfaces, which are arranged in the form of prisms and deflect the incoming light in the direction of the liquid-crystal cell (12) and are coated with a luminous material (20). In order to achieve a clear colour contrast between the display region of the cell and the surroundings when reading off in daylight, the underside of the backing plate is provided with a dye layer (22) of any hue. <IMAGE>
