Abstract

A metal compound is projected with the aid of a pulveriser onto a continually travelling glass strip heated to high temperature. The pulveriser is driven in an alternating motion in a plane parallel to the strip and in a direction perpendicular to the forward travel of the strip. The aim is to obtain a film of uniform thickness. For this purpose the quantity of pulverised metal compound is continually controlled as a function of the rate of travel of the pulveriser. A device performing this control comprises a chamber (28) which has an entry (16) for the metal compound and an exit (17) towards the pulveriser. The chamber contains a rotor (20) which, as it rotates, alternately opens and closes the entry (16) in synchronisation with the position of the pulveriser. The use makes it possible to improve the optical characteristics of the glass or to give it a surface electrical conductivity. <IMAGE>
