PATENTANSPRUCH III
In der obigen Formel (1) ist Alkyl Methyl, Äthyl, n-Propyl, Isopropyl, n-Butyl, Isobutyl, Sec.-Butyl oder tert.-Butyl und Alkoxy ist Methoxy, Äthoxy, n-Propoxy, Isopropoxy, n-Butoxy, Isobutoxy, Sec.-Butoxy oder tert-Butoxy; M steht für Wasserstoff oder für ein einwertiges farbloses Kation, zum Beispiel ein Alkalimetallkation oder ein unsubstituiertes oder alkyl- oder hydroxyalkylsubstituiertes Ammonium, wobei Alkyl 1-3 Kohlenstoffatome enthält und Hydroxyalkyl 2 oder 3 Kohlenstoffatome enthält;
EMI4.1
auf eine Verbindung der Formel
EMI4.2
hergestellt werden, wobei die Kupplung nach an sich bekannten Methoden in basischem Medium, zweckmässig in wässrigem Medium bei pH-Werten von mindestens 7,5, zum Beispiel 7,5 bis 14, und Temperaturen von 0 bis 25", vorzugsweise 4 bis 5 "C durchgeführt werden kann;

Färbebeispiel A

PATENT CLAIM III
Use of the 1: 2 metal complexes according to claim II for dyeing non-textile substrates which can be dyed with anionic dyes.
SUBClaim
4. Use according to claim III for dyeing leather or paper.
Metal complex dyes, including chromium and cobalt complex dyes, are known from German patents 675558 and 707 225 and from USA patents 2200445.3406 160.3 756 771 and 3787387, some of which are also described for dyeing leather. It has now been found that the production method described below can be used to obtain new chromium and cobalt complex compounds which have very interesting properties, especially as leather dyes.
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 1: 2 metal complex compounds, in which the metal is chromium or cobalt and at least one of the two complex-forming azo compounds of the formula
EMI2.1
corresponds to where R1 is hydrogen or nitro, R2 is -OH or -NH2, R3 is -OH or -NH2, R4 is hydrogen, nitro or alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms, R5 is hydrogen, nitro or alkoxy with 1-4 carbon atoms, R6 is hydrogen, alkyl or Alkoxy with 1-4 carbon atoms, -COOM or -SO3M, R7 is hydrogen or -SO3M, R8 is the radical of any diazo component, n is 0 or 1 and M is hydrogen or a monovalent colorless cation.
In the above formula (1), alkyl is methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, sec-butyl or tert-butyl and alkoxy is methoxy, ethoxy, n-propoxy, isopropoxy, n-butoxy , Isobutoxy, sec-butoxy or tert-butoxy; M represents hydrogen or a monovalent colorless cation, for example an alkali metal cation or an unsubstituted or alkyl- or hydroxyalkyl-substituted ammonium, where alkyl contains 1-3 carbon atoms and hydroxyalkyl contains 2 or 3 carbon atoms;
suitable alkali metal cations are lithium, sodium and potassium, preferably sodium or potassium, and suitable ammonium cations are, for example, unsubstituted ammonium, triethylammonium, tetramethylammonium, mono-, di- or triethanolammonium and mono-, di- or triisopropanolammonium.
The radical R8 stands for the radical of any diazo component; this means those which are customary in azo chemistry, above all mononuclear diazo components. The radical R8-N = N- is advantageously mononuclear and preferably corresponds to the formula
EMI2.2
where Rg is hydrogen, hydroxy, -NH2, alkyl or alkoxy with 1-4 carbon atoms, Rlo is hydrogen, nitro, -SO3M or -COOM and R11 is hydrogen, nitro, alkyl with 1-4 carbon atoms or halogen.
Halogen represents fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine, preferably chlorine. One or two of the radicals Rg to R11 are advantageously hydrogen.
The trisazo compounds of the formula (I) can contain up to four sulfo groups, but they advantageously contain no more than three sulfo groups, preferably at most one of R6 and R7 being a sulfo group. The disazo compounds of the formula (I) can contain up to three sulfo groups, but preference is given to those which contain at most two sulfo groups, that is to say at most one of R6 and R7 is sulfo.
Examples for R8-N = N- are:
EMI2.3
Of the compounds of the formula (1), those are particularly preferred in which R1 is —NO2. Hydroxy is preferred for R2 and R3.
It should be noted that, in general, the radical R3 and the hydroxyl group bonded to the naphthalene radical are capable of forming metal complexes, but the radical R2 can also be capable of forming metal complexes, provided that the radical R8 is the radical of a diazo component which is ortho- Position to the azo group has a hydroxyl group, for example if in the remainder of the formula (11) Rg denotes hydroxyl and is in the ortho position to the azo group.
If the 1: 2 metal complex compound consists of an azo compound of the formula (I) and of a metallizable azo compound different from the formula (1), the latter is, for example, a monoazo compound of the formula
EMI3.1
where R'2 and R'3 each denote hydroxy or primary amino and A denotes an optionally substituted, vicinally divalent benzene or naphthalene radical, in particular an azo compound of the formula
EMI3.2
or the formula
EMI3.3
wherein Y1 is hydrogen, chlorine, sulfo or nitro and Y2 is chlorine, sulfo or nitro; or another azo dye of the formula
EMI3.4
where Y1 is hydrogen, chlorine, -SO3M or -NO2 and Y2 is chlorine, -SO3M or -NO2.
The process for the preparation of the 1: 2 metal complex compounds mentioned is characterized in that 1 mol of a compound of the formula (IV) is mixed with 1 mol of the diazo compound from an amine of the formula in any order
EMI3.5
and coupling n moles of any diazo component and metallizing it with an appropriate metal compound.
The process for preparing the 1: 2 Me complex compounds is preferably characterized in that one compound of the formula (1) and another, identical or different, azo compound capable of complexing is reacted with a corresponding metal salt, or that one is used for 1 mol of one Me complex of the formula
EMI3.6
wherein R1 and R2 have the meaning given above, R'2 -OH or -NH2, X and X 'each -NH- or -0-, Me chromium or cobalt, M hydrogen or a monovalent colorless cation and A an optionally substituted vic . mean divalent benzene or naphthalene radical, 1 mol of the diazo compound from an amine of the formula (VII) and 0, 1.2 or 3 mol of any diazo component is coupled.
The compounds of the formula (1) can be prepared by coupling 1 mol of the diazo compound from an amine of the formula (VII) and n mol of a further diazo compound to 1 mol of a coupling component of the formula (IV).
Preferred compounds of formula (VII) are
EMI3.7
wherein one of R "is -NO2 and the other of R 'and R" -SO3M and R "' is hydrogen or R 'and R" are each -NO2 and R "is -COOM.
The compounds of the formula (IV) can be prepared by coupling a compound of the formula
EMI4.1
to a compound of the formula
EMI4.2
be prepared, the coupling according to methods known per se in a basic medium, expediently in an aqueous medium at pH values of at least 7.5, for example 7.5 to 14, and temperatures of 0 to 25 ", preferably 4 to 5" C can be done;
the pH can be adjusted by adding, for example, alkali metal hydroxides or carbonates, ammonia or an amine. H. the coupling of the diazo compounds from an amine of the formula (VII) to a compound of the formula (IV) or else to a compound of the formula (VIII) is also carried out by methods known per se, for example in the temperature range mentioned in an aqueous medium at pH values of at least 5, for example between 5 and 14. It should be noted here that the position of the coupling can be selected by a clever choice of the pH value, that is, under more acidic conditions (for example pH 5 to 7), the coupling is preferred take place in the ortho position to amino groups, while under more basic conditions (for example pH 7 to 14) the coupling will take place in the ortho position to a hydroxyl group.
The third coupling, that is to say the introduction of the radical Rs-N = N- is also carried out according to methods known per se, for example in an aqueous medium at the temperature conditions given above, preferably at pH values of 4 to 9. The coupling can optionally be carried out the addition of coupling accelerators (e.g. urea, pyridine, zellosolve) can be accelerated.
As compounds of the formula (VIII), for example, those of the formula
EMI4.3
in which Rl, R2, R'2, X, Y1, Y2, Me and M have the meaning given above, are used or also preferably 1: 2 metal complexes from compounds of the formula (IV), in particular from two identical compounds of Formula (IV).
Preferably, 1 mol of a compound of the formula (VIII) is coupled with 1-2 mol of a diazo compound or a mixture of diazo compounds from amines of the formula (VII); In addition, it is also possible to couple with 1-2 mol of a further diazo compound, in particular a diazo compound corresponding to the formula (11) or a corresponding mixture of such diazo compounds.
The azo compounds, in particular the compounds of the formula (1) and / or the formula (III), (IV), (V) or (VI), are metallized by methods known per se with a suitable metal compound, advantageously in an aqueous medium, for example in an acidic to alkaline medium (pH 4-10 is advantageous for Co complexes, pH 2-10 is advantageous for Cr complexes), in the warm, preferably at temperatures from 95 ° C. to the reflux temperature or even at higher temperatures, for example up to 120 ° C when working under pressure.
If necessary, the procedure can be carried out with the addition of organic solvents or in organic solvents alone; organic solvents which are preferably water-miscible and boiling above 100 ° C. in which the azo dyes and metal salts are soluble, such as alcohols, ether alcohols or amides (for example cellosolve, methylcellosolve, formamide or dimethylformamide) of organic solvents is particularly advantageous for the production of Cr complexes.
The metallization is advantageously carried out in such a way that an amount of a metal-releasing agent containing at least 1 mol, but advantageously less than 2 mol of metal, is allowed to act on 2 mol of azo compound. In the metallization of mixtures, two identical or at least two different azo compounds can be converted. So-called homogeneous or heterogeneous 1: 2 metal complexes can therefore be obtained.
Suitable compounds of chromium are, for example, chromium trioxide, chromium fluoride, chromium sulfate, chromiformate, chromium acetate, potassium chromium sulfate or ammonium chromium sulfate. The chromates, for example sodium or potassium chromate or brichromate, are also ideally suited for metallization.
Examples of cobalt compounds are cobalt formate, acetate, sulfate and chloride, and cobalt dichloride and acetate.
When preparing asymmetric (heterogeneous) 1: 2 metal complex compounds, it is also advantageous, especially in the case of Cr complexes, to first prepare the corresponding 1: 1 metal complexes and then convert these with another azo dye into the corresponding 1: 2 metal complexes . These conversions also take place in a manner known per se.
The 1: 2 metal complex compounds obtained can be isolated from the reaction mixture by methods known per se, or if they can still be coupled further with diazo compounds, they can be coupled further.
The 1: 2-Co or -Cr complex compounds obtained, in which at least one of the complex-forming azo dyes corresponds to the formula (1), are valuable water-soluble dyes and can generally be used for dyeing substrates which can be dyed with anionic dyes, in particular paper and especially leather.
Any sorts of leather are suitable and the leather can be dyed with the dyes according to the invention by any method suitable for dyeing leather. The dyes according to the invention have a very high affinity for leather and are distinguished by a very good dyeing power for leathers with a low affinity. Their leveling power is excellent and particularly deep, full brown tones can be achieved. The dyeings obtained are distinguished by good all-round fastness properties, in particular light fastness, wash fastness, acid and alkali fastness and sanding fastness.
In the following examples, parts are parts by weight and percentages are percentages by weight; the temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example la
29.5 parts of l-amino-2-hydroxy4-sulfo-6-nitronaphthalene-dia- zoniumverbindungen (nitrodiazoxydic acid Na salt) are dissolved in a solution of
11 parts of 1,3-dihydroxybenzene in 200 parts of water and 35 parts of soda calc. entered at 0.
The coupling has ended after 2 hours. The diazo compound from 26.4 parts of 4-amino-2-sulfodiphenylamine is allowed to flow into the solution of the resulting monoazo dye at a pH of 9.5 over the course of 30 minutes and stirred for 1 hour.
The diazo compound from 13.8 parts of 1-amino4-nitrobenzene is added to the disazo dye formed at pH 6 over the course of 30 minutes and stirred for 3 hours.
The resulting trisazo dye is heated to 95-100 ", then 14 parts of crystalline cobalt sulfate are added and kept at pH 9 for 1 hour. After cooling to 200, the dye is filtered off.
It dries as a black powder and dyes leather in dark brown shades with good light, washing, acid and alkali fastness.
Example lb
The trisazo dye prepared as described in Example 1a is dissolved in formamide, heated to 1200 and mixed with 25 parts of chrome alum. After complexation has taken place, the dye is precipitated by pouring it into a 20% sodium chloride solution, filtered off and, in the dry state, is a black-brown powder that really dyes leather in deep red-brown shades.
The following table shows further metal complex compounds according to the invention of azo dyes of the formula

The dyes produced can be either as free acids or (after neutralization) in the form of the corresponding
Salts can be used for dyeing.
Dyeing example A
100 parts of freshly tanned and neutralized chrome grain leather are drummed for 30 minutes in a liquor of 250 parts of 55 "water and 1 part of the dye prepared according to Example 1a, in the same bath with 2 parts of an anionic fatty liquor based on sulfonated oil for another 30 minutes Treated minutes and the leather dried and trimmed in the usual way, giving a very evenly colored leather in a deep gray-brown shade.
Dyeing example B
100 parts of calfskin suede are drummed up with 1000 parts of water and 2 parts of ammonia in a dyeing drum for 4 hours and then dyed as follows in a fresh bath.
500 parts of water, 550.2 parts of ammonia, 10 parts of the dissolved dye described in Example 1a are dyed together with the calfskin that has been rolled out beforehand in the dyeing drum for 1 hour and 30 minutes. To exhaust the dyebath, 4 parts of formic acid (85%) are slowly added and the dyeing continues until the dye is completely fixed. The suede leather, rinsed, dried and trimmed in the usual way, after grinding the suede side results in a deep gray-brown colored, very level suede leather.
Dyeing Example C
100 parts of lamb leather, chrome-vegetable tanned, 10 parts of the dye obtained in Example la are drummed for 45 minutes in a liquor of 1000 parts of 55 "water and 1.5 parts of an anionic spermacet oil emulsion, and the dye is slowly added 5 parts Formic acid (85%) fixed on the leather for 30 minutes.
After the usual drying and finishing, a leather in a deep gray-brown shade of good levelness is obtained.
Coloring example D
A solution of 20 parts of the dye prepared according to Example 1a in 847 parts of water, 150 parts of ethyl glycol and 3 parts of formic acid (85%) is applied by spraying, plushing and pouring onto the grain side of a sanded, combined-tanned cowhide leather. The leather is dried and finished under mild conditions.
A leather with a dark gray-brown shade and good fastness properties is obtained.
If, in the above Examples A to D, the dye from Example 1a is replaced by the same amount of the dye from Example Ib, dark red-brown leather dyeings with similar properties are obtained.
