The reaction solution is filtered, evaporated to dryness in vacuo and the crystallized residue is recrystallized from ethyl acetate ligroin. Colorless crystals of mp 110-112 "C are obtained.
The same product is also obtained in a known manner by reacting methyl 2,6-dichloropyridine-4-carboxylate with a corresponding amount of 2-n-butylhydrazine in ethanol by refluxing for 4 hours.

Preparation of N- (2,6-dichloropyridine-4-carbonyl)
N'-trichloroacetyl hydrazide
To a solution of 20.6 g of 2,6-dichloropyridine-4-carboxylic acid hydrazide (0.1 mol) 12.0 g of triethylamine (0.12 mol) in 200 ml of abs. 19.2 g of trichloroacetyl chloride (0.106 mol), dissolved in 20 ml of absolute dioxane, are added dropwise at 20-25 ° C. and the mixture is stirred for 20 hours.
The solution filtered off from the triethylamine chlorohydrate is evaporated in vacuo. The yellowish oily residue is taken up in ether, washed with water, 5% sodium bicarbonate solution and water. The crystallized ether residue is recrystallized from toluene: mp 175-178 "C.

Biological activity
Example 4
Effect against Pseudomonas lachrymans on cucumbers and
Xanthomonas vesicatoria
on peppers a) Residual effect (R)
Cucumber and paprika plants were sprayed with the active substance in the form of a spray mixture with 1000 ppm active substance content until dripping wet.
1 day after application, the plants were infected by spraying the underside of the primary leaves with suspensions of the bacteria in question and then incubated for 8 days at 22 ° C. and 95% relative atmospheric humidity. After this time, the evaluation was made based on the number of typical disease spots.
b) Systemic effect (S)
Cucumber and bell pepper plants were watered with the active substance in the form of a suspension of the active substance (concentration 100 ppm based on potting soil).
1 day after application, the plants were infected by spraying the underside of the primary leaves with suspensions of the bacteria in question and then incubated for 8 days at 22 ° C. and 95% relative atmospheric humidity. After this time, the evaluation was made based on the number of typical disease spots.
The following pyridine-4-carboxylic acid derivatives had a good effect on the bacteria mentioned (i.e. plants less than 20% infected, compared to untreated but infected control plants).

95 parts talc; b) 2 parts of active ingredient,
1 part of highly disperse silica,
97 parts of talc.
The active ingredients are mixed and ground with the carriers and can be dusted in this form for use.
Example 6
Emulsifiable concentrates
The following substances are used to produce a 25% emulsifiable concentrate:
25 parts of active ingredient,
2.5 parts of epoxidized vegetable oil,
10 parts of an alkyl aryl sulfonate /
Fatty alcohol polyglycol ether mixture,
5 parts of dimethylformamide,
57.5 parts xylene.
This concentrate can be used to prepare emulsions of any desired concentration by dilution with water, which are particularly suitable for foliar application.
Example 7 Granules:
The following substances are used to produce 5% granules:
5 parts of active ingredient,
0.25 part epichlorohydrin,
0.25 parts of cetyl polyglycol ether,
3.50 parts of polyethylene glycol,
91 parts of kaolin (grain size 0.3-0.8 mm).
The active substance is mixed with epichlorohydrin and dissolved with 6 parts of acetone, then polyethylene glycol and cetyl polyglycol ether are added. The solution thus obtained is sprayed onto kaolin, and the acetone is then evaporated off in vacuo. Such microgranules are particularly suitable for soil application.
