Abstract
A volatile organotin compound is heated and evaporated. The organotin compound preferably conforms to the formula (R)2Sn(OOCR)2 or (R3Sn)2O. In the formulae, R is lower alkyl. The substrate is heated, and the heated substrate is brought into contact with the vapour of the organotin compound in an oxidising atmosphere. A uniform, non-hazy, transparent, electroconductive tin-oxide layer is obtained. The tin oxide may contain a dopant. The process is used for the coating of glass, in particular vidicon screens.
