RMN (60 MHz; CDCl3) : 0,89 (3H, d, J = 5,5 cps); 0,99 (3H, s); 1,15 (3H, s); 1,36 (3H, s) b ppm.

[a]S06 = 70,30 (c = 1,1 dans CHCl3).
RMN (60 MHz; CDCl3):1,08 (3H, s); 1,15 (3H, s); 1,32 (3H, s) b ppm.
SM: M+ = 222 (12); m/e 207 (100), 189 (30), 149 (28), 137(79), 109 (50), 95 (30), 81 (30), 69 (40), 55 (50), 43 (55), 41 (60).
[a524O0 = -85,4" (c = 1,0 dans CHCl3).

CLAIM
Perfuming composition, characterized in that it contains, as active ingredient, the compound of formula
EMI1.1
The present invention relates to the field of perfumes, and more precisely to an oxygenated polycyclic compound of formula
EMI1.2
or 2-oxa-3,3,7,1 1-tetramethyl-tricyclo [7.2. 1.O.1.7] dodecane.
The subject of the invention is therefore a perfuming composition, characterized in that it contains, as active ingredient, the compound I defined above.
It was very recently discovered that compound I possessed interesting organoleptic properties and that it was therefore of unquestionable interest for perfumery, in particular as an ingredient for the preparation of perfume compositions of very diverse natures.
2-oxa-3,3,7,1 1-tetramethyl-tricyclo [7.2.1.0ly7] dodecan is indeed distinguished by an original, very natural olfactory note, at the same time woody, amber and herbaceous, reminiscent of more or less that of sage or freshly cut hay for example.
Compound I is therefore very suitable for the preparation of fragrant compositions of the herbaceous, woody, amber, chypre or fern type for example, compositions to which it adds an original, fresh and herbaceous touch, particularly appreciated in modern perfumery.
The compositions containing compound I as active ingredient can in particular be used for the preparation of perfumed products such as soaps, detergents, cleaning products or cosmetic products, for example.
The amounts used in order to obtain an olfactory effect such as that described above vary widely. For the preparation of perfuming compositions, for example, the most advantageous effects can be obtained by the use of amounts of between 0.1 and 15% of the weight of said composition, preferably of between 1 and 10% approximately. It is understood that quantities greater or less than the limits given above can also be used, in particular when more specific effects are desired.
Due to its particular chemical structure, 2-oxa 3,3,7,1 1-tetramethyl-tricyclo [7.2. 1 .01,7jdodecane (I) can be provided in various isomeric forms, in particular in the forms
EMI1.3
that can be easily distinguished from one another using conventional spectroscopic analysis methods.
As indicated above, the isomers Ia and Ib are differentiated by the trans, respectively cis configuration of the methyl group in position 11 relative to the methyl group in position 7, itself of trans configuration relative to the C1-O bond. . Formula I given above therefore serves to denote both isomer Ia and isomer Ib, or even any mixture of said isomers.
2-oxa-3,3,7, 1 1-tetramethyl-tricyclo [7.2. 1 .01,7] -do-decane is a known compound and each of the isomeric forms described above can be obtained by catalytic hydrogenation of the corresponding unsaturated polycyclic compound, namely α -agarofuran of the formula

respectively the P-agarofuran of formula
EMI1.5
[see on this subject Chemistry & Industry 1975, 423 and Tetrahedron
Letters 1975, 1293].
The hydrogenation of α-agarofuran (IIa) in the presence of platinum oxide in ethanol, for example, made it possible to isolate compound Ia with an appreciable degree of purity. The latter compound was characterized as follows, after purification by preparative gas chromatography.
NMR (60 MHz; CDCl3): 0.89 (3H, d, J = 5.5 cps); 0.99 (3H, s); 1.15 (3H, s); 1.36 (3H, s) b ppm.
MS: M + = 222 (14); m / e = 267 (100), 189 (31), 149 (31), 137 (79), 109 (56), 95 (34), 81 (35), 69 (46), 55 (55), 43 (55), 41 (66).
[a] SO6 = 70.30 (c = 1.1 in CHCl3).
Compound Ib was prepared in a similar way, from p-agarofuran (IIb) and was characterized as indicated below, after purification by preparative gas chromatography.
NMR (60 MHz; CDCl3): 1.08 (3H, s); 1.15 (3H, s); 1.32 (3H, s) b ppm.
MS: M + = 222 (12); m / e 207 (100), 189 (30), 149 (28), 137 (79), 109 (50), 95 (30), 81 (30), 69 (40), 55 (50), 43 ( 55), 41 (60).
[a524O0 = -85.4 "(c = 1.0 in CHCl3).
According to the chosen hydrogenation method, according to equal
Once the degree of purification reached, it is possible to prepare mixtures of isomers Ia and Ib, of varying proportions. Thus, for example, the reduction of α-agarofuran (IIa) by means of rhodium on activated carbon, in an ethanolic medium, leads to the production of isomeric mixtures in which Ia is predominant, at a rate of 70, 80 or 90%. According to the case. In practice, such mixtures can be used extensively.
advantageous in the context of the present invention, the olfactory effects obtained being quite comparable to those developed by the predominant isomer in the mixture considered, when said isomer is used in the pure state.
Example
A basic fragrance composition of the Fern type was prepared by mixing the following ingredients (parts by weight):
Synthetic bergamot 5
Coumarin 5
Bourbon Geranium Essence 15
Lavandin essence 10
Eugenol 3
Ambrette musk 2
Amyl salicylate 10
Total 50
The above base develops a fresh, pleasant odor of the Fern type and is relatively suitable for the preparation of a men's Eau de Cologne for example.
When to 50 parts of the above base is added 1 part of 2-oxa-3,3,7, 1 1-tetramethyl-tricyclo [7.2. 1 .01,7jdodecane (isomer Ia; see previous pages), a new perfuming composition is obtained, the fern note of which is more marked and binds more harmoniously with the other olfactory components of said base.
When to 50 parts of the above base are added 5 parts of 2-oxa-3, 3, 7, 11 -tetramethyl-tricyclo [7 .2.1 .01,7] dodecane (isomer Ia), the effect previously observed is even more marked. The Fern note, even more sustained, is also accompanied by a very natural Hay-type note.
