Fig. 1 eine elektrische Brennschere gemäss der Erfindung,
Fig. 2 den Handgriffsteil,
Fig. 4 das Halteorgan mit zugehöriger Lagerschale und
Fig. 5 die Brennschere, teilweise im Schnitt.
The present invention relates to an electric curling iron with a fixed, first handle part and a second handle part rotatably mounted with respect to this, which is fixedly connected to a heat-conducting tube for heat emission, on which tube an outer clamping arm is arranged and inside a heater is stored.
From US Pat. No. 1,630,078 an electric curling iron of this type is known. In this curling iron, the heat-conducting rotatable tube is guided through the rotatable handle part in the fixed handle part, where it is tensioned in the axial direction by means of a spring.
These curling irons allow hair to be rolled up with the movement of a single finger. However, this known curling iron has the disadvantage that the shaft cannot be supported by the other hand while it is being rolled up because there is no fixed holding element at the end of the rotatable tube.
The invention is therefore based on the object of creating curling tongs of the type which, by moving a single finger, allow the hair to be rolled up while the shaft is supported during the rolling movement by the other hand.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that a support is firmly connected to the heat-conducting tube and serves as a bearing shell for a holding member.
As a result, the shaft can be supported by the other hand when the holding organ is fixed while it is being rolled up. This results in the advantages that the rolling up can be made easier and in a short time, and that the axis of rotation of the curling iron does not have to be moved during rolling up.
In order to prevent the rotatable handle part from heating up, the heat-conducting tube can be connected to the fixed handle part by means of a cylinder made of heat-insulating material such as Bakelite.
The invention is explained below with reference to the drawings. Show it:
1 shows an electric curling iron according to the invention,
Fig. 2 the handle part,
3 shows the heat-emitting shaft to be attached to the handle part,
Fig. 4 the holding member with associated bearing shell and
5 shows the curling iron, partly in section.
The electric curling iron shown in the drawings consists of a fixed handle part 1 and a handle part 2 rotatably mounted with respect to this. This handle part 2 is firmly connected to a heat-conducting tube 8 which can give off heat. The curling iron also contains a support 26 which is partially located inside the tube 8.
An outer clamping arm 9 is attached to the rotatable, heat-conducting tube 8. This clamping arm 9 can be rotated with respect to the heat-conducting tube 8 by depressing an arm 10, which arm 10 cooperates with a spring, not shown, which counteracts this depression. The rotatable handle part 2 is provided on its outside with longitudinally extending grooves 11 which facilitate the rotation of the part by means of the index finger and the thumb or just the thumb. A cylinder made of heat insulating material is inserted between the heating element 7 and the rotatable handle part 2. This avoids heating of the handle part. This gives a free choice of materials, because a handle part that is not heated can be made of a material with a low melting or pouring point.
The insulating cylinder and the fixed handle part can be made from one piece.
When using the curling iron, a lock of hair is clamped between the outer clamping arm 9 and the heat-conducting tube 8. Then the rotatable handle part 2 and the heat-conducting tube 8 connected thereto are rotated by means of the index finger and the thumb or only the thumb. This rotation can be made fairly quickly as it does not require a full hand. During this rotation you can hold the holding member 4 with the other hand. The hair can be rolled up quickly. In addition, the axis of rotation of the curling iron is not moved.
The handle parts 1 and 2 are made of plastic, preferably of Bakelite.
It can be seen from FIGS. 4 and 5 that the support 26 is very short and also firmly connected to the first heat-conducting tube 8, in that this support serves as a bearing shell for the holding member 4. The support 26 is just large enough that it can be pushed into the heat-conducting tube 8. The inserted part of the support 26 has a circumferential groove 34 for receiving an open steel ring 22, which is slightly compressed during insertion, which can be done by means of a hammer, so that the ring 22 tensions against the inside of the heat-conducting tube 8. Epoxy resin (araldite) may be applied to ring 22 prior to insertion.
As a result, a secure connection between the support 26 and the heat-conducting pipe is achieved. The protruding part of the support 26 has a longitudinal slot 27. Since the support 26 is made of a resilient material, the parts separated by the slot can be pressed against one another when the holding member 4 is mounted.
At the end of these parts there is a flange 23 for fastening the holding member in a recess 31 of the same. The holding member 4 can easily be removed by pressing it down in the direction at right angles to the plane of the slot 27. The resilient material can advantageously be made of glass fiber reinforced polyamide or polyphenyl oxide, since these materials can withstand a temperature of up to 170 ° C in any case. The support 26 can advantageously be produced by injection molding. There are longitudinal ribs 28 on the periphery of the support 26. These ribs create an air space between the pipe and the support. This results in a certain thermal resistance and thereby a protection of the support against heating.
The electric heater itself is rotatably mounted in the heat-conducting tube 8. This avoids the problems relating to twisted electrical lines. In the fixed handle part 1, a plate made of insulating material is inserted, on the organs for connecting the supply lines of the heater 7 with the line for the power supply are present. Figure 2 shows one of the two grooves into which the plate can be pushed. To avoid a short circuit, the connections can be made on both sides of the plate. The connecting members can advantageously be crown sleeves, the clamping screws of which, if necessary, can consist of insulating material, at the same time serve to fasten the sleeves. In the fixed handle part 1, a thermostat with a thermometer can also be provided.
Furthermore, a light indicator can be inserted in this handle part, which shows whether the curling iron is switched on or off.
The heat-conducting tube is attached to the rotatable handle part 2 by means of a screw 29, see Fig. 2. It must not protrude far into the rotatable handle part so that the arm 10 can be pivoted down so far that it is almost in the same plane with the handle part 2 .
In addition to the inner ring 31, the holding member 4 also has inner, longitudinally extending radial ribs 32 which ensure correct mounting.
The circumscribed curling iron has a fairly short heating time, a lighter shaft than previous curling irons, and it can withstand a fairly high temperature.
This curling iron is also easy to manufacture.
