The construction of the axial stops holding the screws of the multi-screw extruders in place presents particular difficulties in that these screws must withstand very large axial forces in service, whereas, for the correct operation of the extruders, it is necessary that they are in close proximity to each other. As a result, it is necessary to use, as axial stop in extruders of this type, devices the size of which is extremely small in diameter. An attempt has already been made to find a solution to this problem by providing, at one end of at least one of the screws, an axial stop comprising several bearings mounted in tandem. These bearings may be of the sliding type with pressure lubrication or of the rolling type.
However, it is obviously essential that, during the assembly of such bearings, their fixed parts are positioned in the axial direction with sufficient precision so that the axial thrust is distributed equally over the various bearings. In fact, each bearing is dimensioned so as to be stressed at its maximum load having regard to its diameter, so that inequalities in the distribution of the loads very quickly lead to overloads liable to destroy the bearings.
In the case of thrust bearings fitted with roller bearings, provision has already been made to insert between the fixed raceways of the various bearings calibrated sleeves liable to flex elastically under the effect of a load exceeding a given limit, so that the irregularities due to the manufacturing tolerances that we have to admit on the distances between the raceways of the various moving parts are compensated for by the elastic deformation of the intermediate sleeves. However, this construction has not proved to be sufficiently reliable. In addition, it led to the production of axial stops whose diameter was such that it was not possible to place the screws sufficiently close to each other.
The object of the present invention is to provide an axial stop capable of withstanding maximum loads having regard to the diameter of the shaft element with which the stop is associated, while being designed so that it is possible to have a second shaft element in close proximity to that which the stop carries. Thus, the axial stop according to the invention is not intended only to support a screw in an extruder with several screws, but it can be used in all cases where it is necessary to have any mechanism in the immediate vicinity of a shaft undergoing significant axial thrust.
To achieve this goal, the present invention relates to an axial stop supporting a rotary shaft, in particular in an extruder with several screws, comprising a support, a series of tandem bearings, formed of a series of elements fixed relative to the support and a series of movable elements in rotation with the shaft, the fixed and removable elements being coaxial and cooperating in pairs, and means for allowing adjustment in the axial direction of the elements of one of the series of 'elements under the effect of the axial thrust exerted by the shaft, so as to distribute this thrust also on the bearings, characterized in that the adjustment means comprise a set of spreaders, arranged between the adjustable elements and the organ to which these elements are integral,
each lifter being biased directly or indirectly by at least two floating shaft elements and based on an adjustable element.
The single figure of the appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the axial stop according to the invention.
The stop shown in the drawing comprises a series of six axial rolling bearings 101. Each of these bearings comprises, on the one hand, a bearing element 102 movable in rotation and consisting of an annular part having a flat rolling surface 103 and, on the other hand, a fixed bearing element 104, consisting of an annular part having a flat running surface 105. Between the movable in rotation and fixed elements 102 and 104 of each bearing, are arranged rollers 106 held in place by a cage 107. The six fixed elements 104 are rigidly fixed in a frame 108 which constitutes the support for the stop. They can for example be frictionally engaged in a cylindrical housing of the support 108 and held in position by rigid intermediate rings 109.
As can be seen in the drawing, the diameter of the central opening of the fixed elements 104 is greater than that of the central opening of the movable elements in rotation 102. At its anterior end, the delta stop support 108 is fixed to a body. 110 which may form part, for example, of the frame of a machine comprising a rotary shaft 111 undergoing a significant axial thrust in service, for example the screw of an extruder with several screws. This axial thrust is distributed over the various bearings 101 by means of a set of spreaders 112 and a set of floating shaft elements 113.
The assembly 112 comprises ten spreaders distributed in pairs in tandem, each pair being associated with one of the first five bearings 101. On the other hand, each floating shaft element 113 is associated with one of the pairs of spreaders so as to transmit the residual thrust to the following pairs of lifting beams. The last floating shaft element 113 does not transmit the residual thrust to a set of spreaders, but to an intermediate stud 114 of cylindrical shape which is supported by the movable rotating element 102 of the last bearing 101. At its front end, the stop described comprises a second cylindrical spacer 115 which is arranged between the shaft 111 and the first pair of spreaders.
Each lifter 112 has the shape of a rigid body having a semi-circular section. It is limited by two flat and parallel frontal faces, by a lateral flat face and by a lateral face in portions of cylinder with an opening of 1800.
The two lifting beams of each pair thus occupy a cylindrical space coaxial with the stop, their flat side faces being parallel and arranged symmetrically with respect to a diametral plane which contains the axis of the stop. Each pair of spreaders is engaged with a small clearance in the central opening of one of the fixed elements 104, with the exception of the first pair, which is housed in a recess of the body 110. Each shaft element 113 is also engaged with a small clearance in the central opening of one of the movable elements 102. A very compact arrangement is thus obtained.
The spacers 114, 115, the floating shaft elements 113 and the lifting beams 112 are articulated on each other as well as on the bearing elements 102 and on the shaft 111, thanks to rectilinear cylindrical bars 116 which determine the articulation axes. All these axes are mutually parallel and parallel to the diametral plane along which the flat side faces of the spreaders are oriented. The bars 116 are engaged in grooves with a semi-cylindrical profile formed in the flat front faces of the members which they articulate. Thus, an articulation bar 116 is placed between the front flat face of the shaft 111 and one of those of the stud 115. Its length is equal to the diameter of the cylindrical stud 115.
The first pair of spreaders is linked to the stud 115 by two articulation bars 116 located on either side of the plane of separation of the two spreaders of the pair. These two lifting beams both rest on the first movable element 102 and on the first floating shaft element 113. The support of these lifting beams on the elements which support them is also achieved by bars 116 which are parallel to each other. The bars 116 which articulate the spreaders 112 of the first pair on the first floating shaft element 113 are arranged closer to the plane of separation of the two spreaders than are the bars of the articulations between these spreaders and the stud 115.
On the other hand, the articulations which connect the pedals of the first pair to the first element 102 are further from the separation plane than the articulations between the stud 115 and the first two pedals.
The first floating shaft element 113 is supported as will be seen later by the remaining bearings. The thrust exerted by the shaft 111 on the intermediate stud 115 is therefore distributed equally over each of the two lifting beams 112 of the first pair. In addition, each rudder of this pair transmits the thrust it undergoes, on the one hand, to the first floating shaft element 113 and, on the other hand, to the first movable bearing element 102, the distribution being made according to a inverse ratio to that of the distances a and b measured in the radial direction between, on the one hand, the axes of the hinges of the lifting beam on the mobile element and on the intermediate stud (a) and, on the other hand, the axes of the articulations on the intermediate block and on the floating shaft element (b).
It is easily understood that the first floating shaft element 113 rests on the two spreaders 112 of the second pair in exactly the same way as the intermediate pad 115 rests on the first pair of spreaders. The transmitted thrust is therefore distributed, on the one hand, on the second movable bearing element 102 and, on the other hand, on the second floating shaft element 113. The distribution of the thrusts continues in the same way between the third element. movable bearing and the third floating shaft element then, likewise, at the levels of the fourth and fifth bearings. The fifth pair of spreaders transmits the thrust it receives to the fifth bearing and the fifth floating shaft member. The latter rests on the cylindrical intermediate pad 114 to which it is linked by a single articulation 116.
For its part, this intermediate stud rests on the movable element 102 of the last bearing 101 via two joints 116.
It suffices that the ratios of the distances a and b measured in the radial direction between the articulations at the level of the different pairs of spreaders are judiciously calculated so that the axial thrust exerted by the shaft 111 is distributed equally over the bearings. In the embodiment described, where the number of bearings is six, these ratios between the lengths of the lever arms a and b will be 5 to 1 for the first pair of spreaders, 4 to 1 for the second, 3 to 1 for the third, 2 to 1 for the fourth and 1 to 1 for the fifth. Thus, the articulations which link the fifth pair of spreaders to the elements with which it cooperates are arranged so that between the lever arms a and b there is the relation a = b as seen in the drawing.
The residual thrust on the last floating shaft element 113 is fully transmitted to the last rotary element 102 by the stud 114. A stopper of robust construction is thus obtained, the size of which in diameter can be reduced to a large extent. Whatever the number of bearings arranged in tandem to support the total axial thrust, this thrust is distributed equally over the various bearings, thanks to the deformability of the articulated system formed by all the spreaders and all the shaft elements. floating.
In an alternative embodiment, the articulation bars 116 could also be replaced by triangular or trapezoidal ribs provided projecting on the lifting beams 112 and on the intermediate pads 114 and 115.
Although, in the embodiment described, the articulation axes of all the lifting beams are parallel, this condition is not imperative. Indeed, the six articulations which connect a pair of lifting beams to the elements with which this pair cooperates directly must naturally have axes parallel to each other, but the orientations of these axes could vary from one pair of lifting beams to the next.
