Man erhält etwa 147 g des Harnstoff-Dimethylamin- Formaldehyd Kondensationsproduktes (I).

**WARNUNG** Ende DESC Feld konnte Anfang CLMS uberlappen**.
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polyamide amine compounds and their quaternary and acid addition salts, which is characterized in that a) 1 mol of a reaction product from
1 mole of urea n moles of formaldehyde and m moles of a secondary amine of the formula
EMI1.1
in which R1 and R2 each represent methyl, ethyl or 2-hydroxyethylene or form the morpholine ring together with N, tel quel or in the form of quaternary or acid addition salts, under the conditions that n = 1 to
4 and if n = 1 m = n, if n> 1 m = n-l and b) X moles of formaldehyde and c) an amount of a (meth) acrylic acid amide homopolymer or a water-soluble or water-dispersible one corresponding to Y moles of CONH2 groups,
minimal
5 mol% containing (meth) acrylic acid amide groups
Vinyl copolymer condensed from 14,000 to 140,000 monoäthyle nisch unsaturated monomers, and the condensation product is optionally converted into a quaternary or acid addition salt, under the conditions that when n = 1 X 1 and Y 0.5 or 1, or
X 2 and Y is 1 or 2, and if n> 1 X0 and Y list.
The reaction products of 1 mole of urea, n moles of formaldehyde and m moles of the secondary amine preferably correspond to the following structural formulas
EMI1.2
in which R1 and R2 have the meanings mentioned above. To prepare the compounds of the formulas I and II, the formaldehyde is reacted with urea and the secondary amine in any order. For the compounds of the formulas II and IV, the formaldehyde is first reacted further with urea and then with the secondary amine.
To prepare the end products from compounds of the formula I, formaldehyde is generally reacted in any order with the compounds of the formula I and the polymer containing (meth) acrylic acid amide groups, with the exceptions that if X = 1 and Y = the formaldehyde is first with the polymer and when X = 2 and Y = 2, the formaldehyde is reacted with the compounds of formula I first.
End products from compounds of the formulas II to IV are obtained by condensing these compounds exclusively with the polymer.
The process according to the invention is preferably carried out in such a way that a) 1 mol of a reaction product from
1 mole of urea
1 mole of formaldehyde and
1 mol of the secondary amine tel quel or in the form of quaternary or acid addition salts, b) 1 mol of formaldehyde and c) an amount of the (meth) acrylic acid amide group-containing polymer corresponding to 1 mol of CONH2 groups and the reaction product is optionally converted into a quaternary or acid addition salt .
With the preferred amounts of starting material, another method option is to
1 mole of urea with
To implement 2 mol of formaldehyde, to condense the resulting product in any order in the specified amounts with the (meth) acrylic acid group-containing polymer and the secondary amine and, if necessary, to convert the reaction product into a quaternary or acid addition salt form. The aforementioned variant is less advisable, however, because end products in which either only the polymer or only the secondary amine are involved can arise from the dimethylolurea intermediate that is formed. Such products are not wanted.
The products to be prepared according to the invention are preferably (meth) acrylic acid amide homopolymers or water-soluble or water-dispersible (meth) acrylic acid amide homopolymers made from 14,000 to 140,000 mono-ethylenically unsaturated monomers, the minimum 5 mol% of the formula
EMI1.3
or their quaternary or acid addition salt forms in which R1 and R2 have the meanings mentioned above.
The (meth) acrylic acid amide-vinyl copolymers are z. B.
those which, in addition to the elements methacrylic acid amide and / or acrylic acid amide, also contain those made from ethylene, propylene, butylene, isobutylene, styrene, maleic acid, crotonic acid, acrylonitrile, vinyl ethers, vinyl esters, vinyl halides, vinylidene halides, maleic acid esters, crotonic esters, acrylic esters and / or methacrylic esters.
The homo- and copolymers of acrylic acid amide and methacrylic acid amide with a molecular weight between about 1 and 10 million are preferred.
Suitable secondary amines are dimethylamine, diethylamine, N-methylethanolamine, diethanolamine and morpholine. Dimethyl amine is preferred because of its ready availability.
The products according to the invention are prepared in a manner known per se, preferably by first adding 1 mol of the secondary amine with 1 mol of formaldehyde in aqueous solution at room temperature and then adding 1 mol of urea. The reaction mixture is allowed to react to completion at 60-70 ° C. for about 2 hours. Then 1 mol of formaldehyde in aqueous solution is added to the intermediate product formed and the reaction is carried out at about 700 ° C. for a further 2 hours. The reaction product is preferably isolated by distilling off the water at 70-80 ° C. under reduced pressure (20 torr).
The desired end product is then formed with the (meth) acrylic acid amide polymer in neutral aqueous solution or suspension for 2 to 6 hours at about 20-65 ° C. Before or after the reaction with the (meth) acrylic acid amide polymer, a quaternary or acid addition salt formation, known per se, can take place at temperatures of about 20-80 ° C., e.g. B. with dimethyl sulfate or methyl chloride or
Acids such as HCI or acetic acid take place.
The products according to the invention are excellent flocculants for aqueous suspensions. In particular, they can be used as flocculants for aqueous pulp suspensions in the paper industry. At the same time, they cause an increase in filler retention and the dewatering speed of the paper pulp. The amounts added are approximately 0.002 to 0.1% based on the solids weight of the suspension. The aqueous solutions or suspensions of the flocculants have good storage stability.
example
Chemical manufacturing
81 g of a 37% aqueous formaldehyde solution are mixed with 112.5 g of a 40% aqueous dimethylamine solution while cooling with ice. As soon as the exothermic reaction has ended, 60 g of urea are added to the dimethylaminomethanol obtained and the mixture is heated to 700 ° C. for about 2 hours.
81 g of a 37% strength aqueous formaldehyde solution are then added dropwise to the reaction mixture and the reaction mixture is left to react at about 700 ° C. for 2 hours. The water is then distilled off at approx. 60-70 ° C. under reduced pressure (20 torr). About 147 g of the urea-dimethylamine-formaldehyde condensation product (I) are obtained.
147 g of the condensation product (I) are then added to 3350 g of a 2% strength aqueous polyacrylamide solution.
The reaction takes about 4 hours at a temperature of 400 C. The cationic polyacrylamide obtained can be precipitated by adding acetone or used directly, without isolation, in the form of an aqueous solution as a flocculant.
Use as a flocculant
The flocculation properties were determined using a pulp suspension consisting of bleached sulphite pulp, which contains 15% filler (kaolin), 2% resin glue and 3% aluminum sulphate. The measure of the dewatering effect is the time required for a certain amount of filtrate to escape from the paper stock suspension containing the dehydrating agent, compared to that which requires a corresponding amount of filtrate from the auxiliary-free suspension. The test method used is described in leaflet V / 7/61 of the Association of Pulp and Paper Chemists and Engineers.
To assess the retention effect, test sheets are produced, conditioned and incinerated. The ash content is related to the filler used and expressed in% retention. An excellent effect is achieved with regard to the flocculation properties, in particular the dewatering time and the filler retention.
