The subject of the present invention is a lock comprising two elements hooking onto one another, at least one of which is movable and constitutes a closing member, and the other of which constitutes a retaining part, I ' one of these elements being carried by a fixed frame and the other by a mobile leaf.
Locks of this type have the drawback, like conventional locks comprising a bolt engaging in a keeper, that they do not exert on the leaf any force tending to apply it against the fixed frame, that is, that is to say to perfect the closing of the leaf.
In the case of vehicle doors, subjected to tremors, this absence of force tending to keep the door applied against its frame has been overcome by the presence of flexible gaskets, generally in rubber, carried by the door and / or by the frame. , and which are interposed between these two elements. These gaskets play a dual role, on the one hand, that of ensuring the tightness of the closure and, on the other hand, that of serving as a return means tending to apply the two elements of the seal against each other. closure of the lock, one carried by the door and the other carried by the fixed frame.
This solution is however only partially satisfactory, because it requires that a relatively large force be implemented when closing the door, to allow said lining to be compressed, over the entire periphery of the door, which lining must, moreover, to be relatively resistant in order to be able to perform the role of the door return means.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks by providing, in particular but not exclusively for vehicle doors, a lock such that not only does it keep the door in the closed position, but exerts on it a force tending to l '' apply against the fixed frame on which it is articulated, force which increases if the door is subjected to a force tending to open it.
To this end, the lock according to the invention is characterized in that one of its elements - retaining element and pawl-forming element - is subjected to the action of a return spring which tends to apply it against the other element, the arrangement being such that the pressure exerted by the element subjected to the action of the return spring on the other tends to complete the closing of the leaf.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic view, in elevation, of part of a car door and of its fixed frame, provided with the present lock, in the door open position.
Figs. 2 to 5 are similar views, on a smaller scale, in four other working positions.
The car door shown is designated by 1 and the fixed frame on which it is articulated, forming part of the car body, by 2.
The lock comprises a hook forming a pawl 3, articulated at 4 on the door 1, which has an arm 3a on which acts a return spring 5 tending to keep this arm 3a in abutment against a stop 6 carried by the door 1.
When the door is closed, the pawl or hook 3 is hooked to the lower end 7a of a retaining part 7 constituted by a lever with two arms articulated at 8 on the fixed frame 2. This retaining part 7 is subjected to the action of a coil spring 9, working in compression, which tends to rotate said part 7 in the direction of clockwise. It should be noted that the return spring 9 could be other than a coil.
In order to bring the retaining part 7 into a position in which it is able to receive the closing pawl 3, the lock comprises a thrust part 10, articulated at 11 on the door 1, and which has an arm 10a provided with an ankle 12 on which acts, during the closing of the door, a cam 13 in the form of a hat with a horn.
The lock described and shown operates as follows:
During the closing of the door, the latter moving in
the direction of the arrows 14 of FIG. 1, the push piece 10 acts on the
retainer 7 to rotate in the direction of arrow 15
of fig. 2, against the action of its return spring 9. The
antagonistic force exerted by the latter is all the more easy to
overcome that part 7 acts as a lever, the point of applica
tion of the force exerted by the spring 9 being located between the axis
articulation 8 and the point where the thrust piece 10 is in contact
with the part 7. The push part 10 is held by the
cam 13 in a position in which it is able to act on the retaining part 7 (fig. 2).
The position occupied by the various components of the lock
just before closing is shown in fig. 3.
When the pawl 3 engages on the end of the part
7, the pin 12 of the push piece 10 passes over the top of the cam 13, which allows the push piece to
drop down, turning in the direction of arrow 16 in fig. 4, under
the effect of its own weight or under the effect of a return spring,
not shown, which would tend to make it turn in the direction
counterclockwise.
It should be noted that the end of the arm 10a of the part of
thrust 10 has a hook-shaped part 10b which comes
stand behind the upper end, designated 7b, of the
retainer 7 and which serves as a safety device preventing any
untimely opening of the door if the pawl 3
would accidentally separate from the lower end 7a
of the retaining piece 7. In the example described and shown, the
hook shaped part lOb came one piece with the piece
of thrust 10. However, one could foresee the case where this cro
chet would be attached to part 10 and mounted on it so
mobile, this hook 10b then being subjected to the action of a spring
reminder tending to apply it against the end 7b of the part of
restraint 7.
When the lock is in its closed position, represent
ty in fig. 5, the return spring 9 of the retainer 7 acts
on the door, through the retainer and the
pawl 3, to keep it in the closed position, exerting on
it a force in the direction of arrow 17 of FIG. 5, which allows
a slight play of the door which can occur when it comes,
as in the example shown, of an auto vehicle door
mobile whose frame may be called upon to deform slightly. he
It should be noted that a multiplier effect is obtained due to the
that the two parts of the retainer 7, functioning as
a lever, are of different length.
The return spring 9 therefore has the effect that the lining
interposed between the door 1 and the fixed frame 2, not shown, has
practically to play a simple sealing role and not
that of a return means exerting on the door a force avoiding
any sloshing of it during the tremors that the
vehicle.
Thanks to this arrangement, the door is closed
much more easily than with ordinary locks, the force
necessary for this purpose being able to be a sub-multiple of what it
is usually and depending on the lever ratio of the workpiece
retainer 7 and the force of the return spring 9.
So that during the opening of the door which takes place in
acting on the pawl 3 using a control 18, the cam 13
is not an obstacle to the passage of the pin 12 of the piece of
thrust 10, the cam is articulated at 19 on the fixed frame 2. It
The result is that, when the door is opened, the pin 12, acting
on the part of the profile of the cam indicated by 20 in fig. 1, lift
the cam which then disappears. The cam falls back on its own, by its
own weight, in its working position in which it is
located on the path that the ankle 12 travels during the
closing the door.
Cam 13 could also be sou
actuation of a return spring which would tend to turn it
ner in the direction of clockwise and which would act on it via the axis thereof, since the entire periphery of the cam must remain free.
It should be noted that the lock has been shown in the drawing very schematically and that the shape of its various components will be studied so that friction is reduced to a minimum, the materials being chosen so that noise is also reduced to a minimum. , although it is not necessary, with the present lock, to slam the door to close it. In addition, certain elements which have been shown in one piece may be made in two pieces, the relative position of which may be adjustable, so as to allow the necessary adjustments to be made for optimum operation of the lock. Finally, nothing prevents providing that the elements which have been shown carried by the frame 2 are mounted on the door 1 and that those carried by the latter are mounted on the frame.
