Abstract

Filter element comprises a bag of filter material, which is open at one end and of which the walls are spaced apart by a coarse open pore filler body within the bag, pref. consisting of plastic foam. The upper edge of the bag is pref. mounted in a partition of the filtration appts. while the filter body does not require any special fastening due to its rough surface and its light weight, but is retained by the filter material. The bag is thus held open by means which are cheaper to mfr. and lighter. The filter element can be used for filtering air, and also for cleaning other gases or liquids which are polluted with particles.

Description

The invention relates to a filter element with a bag made of filter material and open on one side. Filters of this type are used in filter systems, for example dust or breathing filters. So that at least the coarser dust particles # do not collect in the sack, the polluted air is drawn from the outside to the sack wall, while the cleaned air exits the sack inner wall.

This type of air flow means that means must be available to keep the bag walls open during operation.

In known filter elements of this type, wire structures, springs or other cage-like bodies are usually used for this purpose. It is customary to attach this structure to a partition of the filter system, to slip the bag made of filter material over it and to hold its edge sealingly on the partition. The object of the invention is to find equivalent means for keeping the sack open, which are cheaper to manufacture and, moreover, are lighter than the means previously used. The lower weight then makes assembly easier.

The filter element according to the invention with a bag made of filter material and open on one side is characterized in that the walls of this bag are kept at a distance from one another by a coarse open-pored filling body arranged therein. The filler body is preferably made from coarse open-cell foam. Since such a filling body is very light, the attachment of the filter elements in the filter system is also simplified, since it is sufficient if the upper edge of the bag is fastened in a partition of the filter system, while the coarse open-pored filling body has its rough surface and its small size Weight does not require any special fastening, but is held by the filter material.

The attached drawing shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention and explains its use. The drawing shows in Fig. 1 a filter element and in Fig. 2 its use in a filter system, on a smaller scale.

In Fig. 1, 10 is a bag made of filter material, open on one side. Here, for example, a random acetate fiber layer is used as the filter material, while the filling body 20 consists of coarse, open-pore polypropylene foam.

The filler body has an approximately rectangular shape. If necessary, its edges can be rounded, as indicated at 21. The walls of the bag 10 also consist of two rectangular, somewhat larger pieces of filter material which are glued together along three sides. The seams formed by the gluing are denoted by 11 in FIG. 1.

In Fig. 2 part of a filter system is shown in which several of the filter elements described above are attached. The system comprises a housing 30, the outlines of which are indicated by thin lines. In this housing there is a partition 31. Polluted air is introduced through the opening 32, while filtered air exits through the opening 33. Filter elements 10, 20 according to FIG. 1 are inserted into openings 34 in the partition wall. Only the upper edge part of the bags of the filter elements made of filter material are fastened in the openings in the partition.

In the example shown, the partition 31 is made of plastic and the upper edge of the bags is glued in the openings 34. Thanks to its low weight and its rough surface, the filling body 20 easily holds in the sack 10 and does not need any further fastening.

The filter elements described can of course be used not only for filtering air, but also for cleaning other gases or liquids contaminated by particles.
