Methyläthylketon (a)
Cellsolveazetat (b)
Nitrilkautschuk fl. 350 g
Nitrilkautschuk in Stücken 590 g
Wärmeaushärtbares öllösliches Phenolharz 350 g
Epoxyharz (Epichlorohydrinderivat) 400 g
Geschäumtes kolloidales SiO2 300 g
Butylkarbitol (c)

PATENTANSPRUCH II
Beschichtetes Basismaterial, hergestellt nach dem Verfahren gemäss Patentanspruch I.
The invention relates to a new method for producing a base material coated with a surface layer made of resins and / or plastics suitable for the subsequent metallization, in particular of laminated materials provided with such layers, which is characterized in that one of the surfaces serves as an auxiliary carrier for the coating material Transfer material is provided with a layer of predetermined thickness, which consists of the layer material in the unpolymerized, a suitable viscosity exhibiting state, and the coated transfer material is then subjected to a treatment which leads to a partial curing and is sufficient to solidify the layer material and to prevent its surface from sticking to surfaces,
which are brought into contact with it under normal storage and working conditions, and that the coated transfer material or a section thereof is placed with the layer side on the surface of the base material to be coated and the layer is firmly bonded to the base material with curing.
The present method allows the carrier material to be provided with a resin-rich surface layer of the desired composition, preferably simultaneously with the pressing operation, that is to say during the manufacturing process of the laminate. Furthermore, the invention makes it possible to provide the surface layer with a cover which completely protects it against all chemical, mechanical environmental influences, for example during further processing.
The invention also relates to the use of the base material obtained for the production of printed circuits.
In the past, it has already been proposed to provide certain surface properties, for example, by covering the surfaces with layers of paint by means of spray painting, roller painting or other known painting methods.
A major disadvantage of the known methods is that the coated surface must be kept free of dust until it is completely dry; It has also already been proposed to apply the cover layers from the desired resin mixture in the form of paper or fabric soaked with this in the production of laminate. A major disadvantage of this method is that either the insufficient adhesion of the differently impregnated paper and fabric layers causes difficulties or the resin layer is pressed through the fabric layer and thus largely disappears from the surface.
For example, when manufacturing printed circuits using the additive process, a smooth and even surface layer with certain properties and a minimum thickness of 20μ must be produced in order to achieve sufficient adhesion of the metal deposit on the substrate. Compliance with the required thickness as well as the production of a smooth and completely even covering is very difficult, if at all, to be achieved using the known methods. This and other disadvantages are avoided by the method according to the invention.
In the accompanying drawing represents
1 shows a manufacturing facility for coating the material used as a base for the transfer process with a hardenable resin. This transfer base is coated, for example, in such a way that the material is guided between rollers, with the resin mass being poured onto or in front of one of the rollers.
2-4 show cross-sectional views; first, the base material plate covered with a hardened resin layer.
wherein the resin layer is still covered with the material serving as the transfer carrier, in FIG. 2. In FIG. 3 the same base material plate is shown after the transfer material has been peeled off and finally in FIG. 4 the coating layer already activated for the application of the metal deposition.
According to the invention, a surface of the transfer material is first covered with the desired resin mixture of suitable viscosity. The resin or resin mixture belongs to the group of materials that are liquid in the unpolymerized state and curable by polymerization. The material for the base is selected in such a way that the resin does not adhere to it in the cured state and yet has sufficient adhesion in the uncured or partially cured state. In the next process step, the resin layer on the transfer material is cured to such an extent that its surface no longer adheres to other surfaces that are brought into contact with it without a heat treatment. The coated transfer material prepared in this way can then be kept in the rolled-up state, for example for storage.
In a third process step, the surface of the material to be coated is brought into contact with the layer side of the coated transfer material and the resin layer is fully cured by heat or heat and pressure and thus firmly bonded to the surface of the laminate to be coated.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the coated transfer material is applied to the surface of the stack of impregnated layer material for the laminate before pressing and the laminate is produced in a joint press-heat-hardening process and provided with the surface layer.
The cover layer consisting of the transfer material protects the underlying resin layer from mechanical and chemical influences, for example during transport or the drilling or punching processes and the like. It is expedient to remove it only before the pretreatment or the metallization.
The applied resin layer can be further treated by one of the known methods, for example made microporous and wettable by chemical means, in order then to be provided in a known manner with a metal coating deposited from electroless baths. The latter can, if desired, be reinforced by means of electrodeposition.
The use of resin layers which contain finely divided particles, for example rubber or synthetic rubber, which can be broken down by chemical action, whereby a microporous surface is formed, has proven to be particularly suitable for the production of firmly adhering metallizations. However, the composition of the resin layer is not restricted to such mixtures; for example, monomeric mixtures can also be used or
Plastic mixtures which already contain a substance which catalytically effects electroless metal deposition. One of the resins or resin mixtures can belong to the group of phenolic, epoxy, melamine, polyacrylic, polyester or polystyrene resins; these can be provided with particles of easily chemically degradable substances, such as butadiene.
In a further embodiment, both the resin mixture of the cover layer and that of the base carrier material are admixed with a substance that has a catalytic effect on the electroless metal deposition. Such substances are particularly suitable for the additive manufacturing of printed circuit boards.
In detail, Fig. 1 shows the principle of a large-scale manufacturing facility for implementing the invention. The transfer material is denoted by 2 and the resin material used to produce the surface layer is denoted by 4. The latter is applied on one side of the transfer material between the rollers 6 and 8.
The resin layer located on the transfer material is brought into the partially cured state B by the action of heat, for example by means of the heat source 16, and the coated carrier material is then wound onto the roll 10 and stored until further use.
For further processing, suitable sections of the coated carrier material are placed on the stack of impregnated layers of a laminate with the layer side inward, and the entire stack is pressed in the usual way in suitable presses under the action of pressure and heat to form a laminate. This has a layer of suitable thickness and a composition of appropriately chosen resins. Your surface is protected by the transfer material for storage, shipping and further processing.
2 shows the laminate after it has left the laminating press, the laminate of the base material being denoted by 12 and the resin layer applied in the transfer process by 4 and the carrier material for the resin layer by 2.
Figure 3 shows the same material but after the transfer material has been removed.
FIG. 4 is a schematic cross-sectional representation intended to illustrate the state after the surface layer has been treated with suitable chemical means in order to produce the micropores 14 therein, which serve to anchor the electrolessly deposited metal layer.
The particular advantages of the method according to the invention are based, among other things, on the fact that the coating thickness and coating material can be freely selected within wide limits and that the surface quality of the layers applied by this method is also suitable for high-quality further processing operations, such as photo printing, for example.
The process is particularly suitable for series production. The transfer material is coated in a process that is fully mastered in its technology and suitable for large-scale production, expediently in a continuous process, and the layer is transferred to the base material, for example the laminate, in a simple manner, preferably using the conventional manufacturing process for laminate.
Since the resin mixture used for the surface layer is applied to a transfer material and in a correspondingly hardened state on the base material, it is also completely avoided that the resin mixture of the base laminate penetrates through the surface layer or mixes with it.
The transfer material for the resin layer can be selected in such a way that it not only serves as a temporary protection for the resin layer surface during storage and transport as well as the subsequent manufacturing steps, but also facilitates the implementation of certain manufacturing processes. If, for example, a plastic film with metal clad on the outside or a metal film at all is used as the transfer material, this acts as a heat trap during a drilling process and serves to quickly dissipate the heat generated during the drilling process from the drilling site.
example 1
A transfer material, consisting of paper coated with polyethylene, is coated with a curable rubber compound in a roll-on process; this contains:
Methyl ethyl ketone (a)
Cellsolve acetate (b)
Nitrile rubber liquid 350 g
Nitrile rubber in pieces 590 g
Thermosetting oil-soluble phenolic resin 350 g
Epoxy resin (epichlorohydrin derivative) 400 g
Foamed colloidal SiO2 300 g
Butyl carbitol (c)
Sufficient solvent is added to give a viscosity of 12,000 cps, the weight ratio of solvents a: b: c being 1: 5.7: 4.4.
Pieces of 7.5 x 10 cm are now cut from the resin-coated carrier material and these are then placed on a stack of soaked layer material in such a way that the resin layer faces the layer material. The latter can consist of e.g. B. phenolic paper or epoxy glass.
These are now processed to the laminate under the generally usual conditions in a laminating press, namely for phenolic paper at about 100 atm and 1700 C and for epoxy base at about 20 atm and also 1700 C, the lamination time for phenolic paper is 45 minutes, for the epoxy base only 15-30 minutes.
The laminate boards prepared in this way, provided with a resin-rich surface layer, are processed into printed circuits as follows: (i) Production of the perforation pattern (ii) Removal of the cover carrier plate, for example by peeling off (iii) Activation of the surface by treatment in a solution of: K2Cr2O7 37 G
H2SO4 500 ml
Water 500 ml for 30 minutes at 23-27 C (iv) The surface is then sensitized for metal deposition from autocatalytic metal deposition baths. For this purpose, this is first concentrated in a solution of 100 g SnCl2 in 55 ml HCI. and 1000 ml of water and after rinsing in a bath of 1 g of PdCl2 and 40 ml of HCl conc. immersed in 1000 ml of water.
(v) After drying, the usual underground resistive lacquer layer is applied.
(vi) The conductor pattern is deposited in the desired thickness from one of the usual electroless copper plating baths.
(vii) The resistive lacquer layer is removed and (viii) the finished product is post-cured for 30 minutes at about 150 ° C.
Example 2
Instead of the rubber (polyacrylonitrile butadiene), an epoxy base (for example epichlorohydrinbiphenol with added diethylenetriamine) is used for the coating composition. After the layer has hardened and the carrier has been removed, the surface is made permanently wetting and polar by immersing it in dimethylformamide for 2-5 minutes at approx. 30 C, rinsing with water and then for about 1 minute in a solution of 100 g / l CrO3 and 250 ml / l concentrated H2SO4 and then again used for 2 minutes in a 5% NaHSO3 solution; Finally, the surface is thoroughly rinsed, first cold and then hot.
The prepared plate is sensitized for the metal deposition from electroless baths, for example by treating it with a PdCl2-SnCl2 solution. A negative cover mask is printed on and the conductor pattern is built up in the desired thickness by means of electroless metal deposition.
Example 3
Following the procedure described in Example 1, a catalytic surface layer of the following composition is used throughout:
Epoxy resin * 15 g
Butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber 15 g
Toluene 50 g
Phenol formaldehyde resin (oil soluble) 11 g
Copper-I-oxide (catalytically active substance) 60 g The epoxy resin mentioned in this example is a reaction product of epichlorohydrin and biphenol A with an average molecular weight between 340 and 350 and a viscosity of 3600 to 6400 cps at 25 C.
Instead of the copper bath used in Example 1, other electroless metal plating baths can also be used, such as, for example, nickel, cobalt or silver plating baths.
