The invention relates to a toy in the form of a hollow, regular polyhedron, the side faces of which bear symbols.
The object to be achieved by the invention consists in creating a toy with which children are stimulated to learn, in particular to calculate, in a playful manner.
The invention with which this object is achieved is characterized in that the polyhedron is transparent and inside there is at least one cube that can move freely in the cavity, and the cube also bears symbols.
Depending on the agreed rules of the game, z. B. Numbers lying on the polyhedron can be added, subtracted or multiplied with eyes arranged on top of the cube.
Children learn to count in a playful way. If letters are used instead of numbers, words can be formed from the combination of letters thrown on the dice, thereby expanding the children's vocabulary.
The toy according to the invention also has the advantage that it can be manufactured cheaply in plastic as a mass-produced article.
In the drawing, an embodiment is shown in perspective.
A regular polyhedron 1 made of transparent plastic in the form of a pentagon dodecahedron (regular twelve-sided) is hollow. The cavity has a matching polygon shape, so that the polyhedron can be imagined as a structure composed of twelve identical flat pentagonal plates abutting one another at the edges. In the cavity there is a dice 2 of conventional design provided with eyes 5, which is much smaller than the cavity so that it can move freely in this and rest on each of the inner surfaces when it is below. The pentagonal surfaces 4 of the polyhedron 1 are provided on the inside with numbers 3, which go from one to twelve.
It is also conceivable that the numbers 3 are placed on the outside; the arrangement on the inside, however, has the advantage that they are protected against abrasion.
Instead of numbers or eyes, letters or other symbols could also be attached.
The polyhedron 1 is preferably designed as a one-piece, closed, plastic hollow body produced by injection molding, which encloses the cube 2 so that it cannot be lost. However, it would also be possible to make one of the pentagonal plates of the polyhedron removable, for example in order to replace the cube or to introduce several cubes into the cavity.
To play, the toy is easily moved by hand over a flat surface, e.g. B. rolled a table top. After it has come to a standstill, a randomly determined number of the polyhedron 1 is on top, also a random number of the dice 2. Depending on the rules of the game, these numbers can be added, subtracted or multiplied, for example. If letters are used instead of numbers, the beginnings of words or the like can be formed with the combinations of letters that are rolled. Of course, numerous other play options are possible with this toy.
