Laundry drying cabinets are used to dry items of laundry that have already been spun in a washing machine and / or that have been freed from most of the absorbed water in a laundry centrifuge.
Laundry drying cabinets of this type work with a fan that blows preheated air through the cabinet in which the items of laundry to be dried can be hung. In known laundry-drying cabinets of this type, neither the air flow nor the efficiency has been given greater attention. As a result, drying took a relatively long time and the power consumption was correspondingly high.
The object of the invention is to improve the efficiency of such a laundry drying cabinet so that the drying time is shortened and the power consumption is reduced.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that an air distributor is installed in the lower part of the cabinet, which distributes the air blown in from below as evenly as possible over the cross-section of the cabinet, and that a heat exchange device is arranged in the upper area of the cabinet, through whose tubes the Fan draws in air.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in simplified form in the drawing. It shows a vertical section through a laundry drying cabinet. The cut runs parallel to the front wall so that the doors attached to it are visible. The cabinet 1 has a base 2 and is provided with a ventilation flap 3 at the top, which is open during operation so that the moist air can escape.
When closed, it protects against dust. In the closet rods 4 are attached to hang the laundry items to be dried. The latter are indicated with W.
An air distributor, which here is made up of several air baffles 5, is attached at the bottom of the cabinet. In the upper area of the cabinet, some parallel heat exchanger pipes 6, for example thin-walled copper pipes, are installed, which penetrate the two side walls of the cabinet and open into suction channels 7, 8 of the fan 9.
This fan 9 is attached to the side of the cabinet. It comprises a radial fan that is driven by an electric motor (not shown). The housing of the fan is denoted by 91, which has a suction opening 92. The intake channel 8 connects to the housing 91 and to the intake opening 92. The blower nozzle 93 of the blower is connected to a box 10 which contains electrical heating elements that heat the air blown in. A switch 101 for different heating levels and a time switch 102 are built into this box. Subsequent to the box 10, a pipe 11 is attached, which guides the heated air flow down into the box 1, where air distributor 5 distributes the air flow evenly over the box cross-section.
During operation, the box is first loaded with damp laundry and the doors, not shown, are closed. The heating level required according to the operating instructions can now be set using switch 101. A lower temperature should always be set for plastics than when linen towels are to be dried.
Thereafter, the timer 102 is set to the required drying time and the device is in operation. The fan sucks in air through the intake duct 7, which air passes through the heat exchanger pipes 6 and duct 8 to the fan.
This means that at least some of the heat that would otherwise be lost is recovered during operation. The direction of flow of the air is indicated by arrows. Suction channel 7 is guided downwards along the cabinet wall so that no moist air is sucked in. The air blown out at the top of the flap 3 contains a lot of moisture. It is advantageous to set up the cabinet in such a way that this moisture is blown outwards, for example through an open window. In this way, cool, dry air is sucked in and preheated in the heat exchanger.
