RfJ + CH2 = CH2eRfCH2CH2J (a)
RfJ + CH2 = CHF#RfCH2CHFJ (b)
RfJ + CH2 = CF2oRfCH2CF2J (c)

B. Kupfer-I-, Silber-, Gold-, Zink-, Cadmium- oder Quecksilbersalze.

EMI4.1
It is known to use perfluoroalkyl iodides in the presence of suitable catalysts with olefins, e.g. B. ethylene or halogenated olefins, e.g. B. to implement vinyl fluoride or vinylidene fluoride according to the following reaction equations:
RfJ + CH2 = CH2eRfCH2CH2J (a)
RfJ + CH2 = CHF # RfCH2CHFJ (b)
RfJ + CH2 = CF2oRfCH2CF2J (c)
The result is essentially the polyfluoroalkyl iodide-olefin l, l adducts, in addition to higher telomers.
It has now been found that new, valuable compounds are obtained if olefins are again added onto the iodides of type (b) or (c). While the addition to the perfluoroalkyl iodides of type (a) does not succeed, the iodides of the formulas RfCH2CHFJ and RfCH2CF2J are surprisingly able to add ethylene and other olefins in good yield.
The present invention therefore relates to a process for the preparation of polyfluoroalkyl iodides of the formula
EMI1.1
where Rf is a perfluorinated alkyl radical with 3 to 18 carbon atoms, R1 is hydrogen or fluorine, R3 and R4 are independently hydrogen, alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, hydroxyalkyl with 1 to 5 carbon atoms, carboxyl, carbalkoxy and 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkoxy radical, - ( CH2) pOCOR2, where R2 is hydrogen, alkyl with 1 to 3 carbon atoms and p is 0 or an integer from 1 to 3, phenyl and alkylphenyl with 1 to 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical or R3 and R4 together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached are bonded, denote an optionally substituted cycloaliphatic radical with 5 or 6 ring carbon atoms and n is an integer from 1 to 3, characterized in that
that one a) compounds of the formula
EMI1.2
b) at least one linear or cyclic olefin which contains at most 12 carbon atoms and corresponds to the formula R, CH = CH- #, in the presence of c) at least one amine and d) at least one metal salt of a metal from groups Ia to IVa or Ib to VIIb and VIII of the Periodic Table, optionally in the form of an amine-metal complex, at 0 to 350 C and 1 to 200 kp / cm2.
The substituents R3 and R4 are independently hydrogen, alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, hydroxyalkyl with 1 to 5 carbon atoms, such as hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl, hydroxybutyl and hydroxyamyl, the radicals -COOH, -COOR and -OOCR, where R is methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl, and (CH2) pOOCR3 where R2 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl and p is 0 or an integer from 1 to 3; also phenyl, methyl, ethyl or propylphenyl. The substituents R3 and R4, together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached, also form a cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl ring, which contains the substituents (CH2) qOH or
(CH2) qOCOCH3 may contain; q is an integer from 1 to 3. Further substituents are e.g. B. the radicals -COOR ', wherein R' can be methyl or ethyl.
Preferred polyfluoroalkyl iodides are those in which one of the substituents R3 or R4 is hydrogen and the other is also hydrogen, methyl or hydroxymethyl.
The perfluorinated alkyl radical can be branched or, preferably, straight-chain and contain 3 to 18 carbon atoms. He can z. B. by the following formulas F (CF2) pp = 3-18 (CF3) 2CF (CF2) qq = 1-15 CF3 [CF2CF (CF3)] r¯ r = 1-5 (CI, CF [CF2CF (CF, ) #ss = 1-5 are displayed.
Polyfluoroalkyl iodides of the formula are of particular interest
EMI1.3
where R1 is hydrogen or fluorine, R5 and R6 independently of one another hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, carboxyl, carbomethoxy, carbethoxy, -OOCCH3, -OOCC2H5, -CH200CH, -CH2OOCCH3, -CH2OOCQH5, phenyl, methylphenyl or R5 and R6 along with the carbon atoms to which they are attached, the rest of the formulas
EMI1.4
where q is an integer from 1 to 3 and R 'is alkyl of 1 to 2 carbon atoms, m is an integer from 4 to 12 and n is an integer from 1 to 3.
Compounds of the formula are also particularly suitable
EMI1.5
where R1 is hydrogen or fluorine, R7 is hydrogen, R8 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, hydroxymethyl, carboxyl, carbomethoxy, carbethoxy, -O OCCH3, -CH2OOCH, CH2OOCCH3, -CH200CC2Hs, phenyl, methylphenyl or R7 and R8 together with the carbon atoms to the they are tied to the rest of the formulas
EMI2.1
m is an integer from 4 to 12 and n is an integer from 1 to 3, as well as the formulas
EMI2.2
wherein R7, R8, m and n have the meaning given, while Rg is hydrogen, methyl or hydroxymethyl.
Iodides of the formula are preferably used as components (a) for the preparation of the compounds of the formula (1)
EMI2.3
where R is hydrogen or fluorine, m is an integer from 4 to 12 and an integer from 1 to 3. These iodides are produced using known methods. The component (b) used is preferably linear or cyclic olefins with a maximum of 12 carbon atoms, which corresponds to the formula (10) R3-CH =CH-R4. R3 and R4 have the meaning given in formula (1). The olefins of component (b) are preferably alkenes or alkenes substituted by functional groups.
Suitable alkenes are in particular ethylene and propylene, but also butylene. Alkenes substituted with functional groups are e.g. B. allyl alcohol, vinyl acetate, esters e.g. B. lower alkyl esters of acrylic, methacrylic, crotonic, maleic, fumaric or itaconic acid; especially allyl formate and acetate. Cyclic olefins of particular interest correspond to e.g. B. the formulas
EMI2.4
EMI2.5
where q is an integer from 1 to 3 and R 'is alkyl of 1 or carbon atoms.
The olefins preferably used thus correspond, for. B. the formulas (14) R5-CH = CH-R6, (15) R7-CH = CH-R8 and (16) H3C = CH-R9 in which Rg, R6, R7, R8 and Rg are the same as in the formulas (3 ), (4) and (7) have given meaning.
The adducts obtained are often mixtures of isomers in that the polyfluoroalkyl radical can add to either the a-wiess carbon atom or the ethylenically unsaturated bond of the olefin. For the sake of simplicity, only one isomer form is usually listed in the present case.
The amines which come into consideration as component c) are in particular primary, secondary or tertiary aliphatic, heterocyclic or aromatic amines. Amines that contain at least one oxygen atom in the molecule are preferred. Amines which contain at least one hydroxyl group in the molecule are particularly suitable here. Amines which are capable of developing an amphoteric configuration, such as the alkanolamines, are of particular interest.
Such alkanolamines preferably contain 2 to 6 carbon atoms.
In particular are z. B. the following amines mentioned: N ethylethanolamine, aminoethylisopropanolamine, diethylethanolamine, N- (2-hydroxyethyl) ethylenediamine, isopropanolamine, triisopropanolamine, N-ethylethanolamine, N methylethanolamine; in particular diethanolamine, triethanolamine and preferably monoethanolamine. Amines such as N-hydroxyethylmorpholine, morpholine, N-hydroxyethylpiperazine, 3-diethylaminophenol, glycine or diethylamine are also suitable.
Among the metal salts to be used as component (d), especially metal salts of a metal of groups Ib to VIIb and VIII, in particular the 4th to 6th period of the periodic table, are suitable. Metal salts of metals from groups Ib and IIb are particularly suitable here, such as. B. copper-I, silver, gold, zinc, cadmium or mercury salts. Other preferred metal salts are derived from metals of groups IIIb or VIIIb, in particular of the 4th or 5th period or from metals of groups IVb or
Vb, especially the 4th to 6th period of the periodic system. These are yttrium, titanium, zirconium, niobium, tantalum, manganese, iron, ruthenium or
Rhodium salts.
Suitable representatives of metals from group Ia are, for. B. sodium and potassium and group IIa z. B. Magnesium, calcium, strontium or barium. To the metals of the
Group IIIa includes gallium, thallium and indium and to
Group IVa germanium, tin or lead.
All references to the periodic table are references to the periodic table according to Langes Handbook of Chemistry, 10th edition 1967,
Pages 60 and 61.
The halides, such as the bromides, iodides or, preferably, the chlorides of the corresponding metals have proven particularly advantageous. In addition, however, corresponding phosphates, carbonates, nitrates, sulfates,
Cyanides, hydrides, acetylacetonates or alcoholates, e.g. B.
Ethylates or methylates, can be used. Salt mixtures can also be used, including metals of different valence.
Copper-I-chloride has proven to be particularly suitable.
Components c) and d) are preferably used as amine-metal salt complexes to which an excess of the complex-forming amine can be added as a solvent. In addition, it is also possible that the amine-metal salt complex can contain an excess of unreacted metal salt.
To facilitate separation and reuse of the amine-metal salt complex, binders and absorbents can also be used as support material for the catalyst complex. Suitable for this are z. B. aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide, coal, kieselguhr or natural and synthetic molecular sieves.
The reaction of components a) and b) takes place preferably at 60 to 250 ° C or in particular 120 to 1800 ° C.
Depending on whether the boiling points of components a), b) and c) are below or above 600 ° C., the reaction is expediently carried out in an autoclave or in a pressureless apparatus at atmospheric pressure. A pressure is established in the autoclave which depends on the amount of components a) and b) initially introduced. The pressures are in the range from 1 to 200 kg / cm2, preferably from 1 to 160 kg / cm2, depending on the reacting components. It can be implemented continuously or batchwise.
The proportions between components a), b), c) and d) vary within fairly wide limits, depending on how reactive the individual components are and what properties the end products should have. The preferred procedure is to react 1 mol of component a) with 1 to 10 mol of component b) in the presence of 0.05 to 10 mol of component c) and 0.003 to 20 mol of component d).
The reaction can be carried out in the absence or in the presence of a solvent. Suitable solvents are e.g. B. fluorinated alkanes, fluorinated haloalkanes, alcohols, ethers, aromatic hydrocarbons or cycloaliphatic compounds.
The polyfluoroalkyl iodides prepared according to the invention are valuable intermediates which can be used for the synthesis of application products, e.g. B.
for oleophobing and hydrophobing. Furthermore, they can themselves be used as oleophobic and hydrophobic agents for porous and non-porous substrates.
By splitting off iodine by hydrogenation or by splitting off hydrogen iodide, one can obtain finoralkylalkenes and perfluoroalkanes from the iodides. The perfluoroalkylalkenes can be converted into alkanes by subsequent hydrogenation.
In some cases, the hydrogen iodide is split off during the reaction of the perfluoroalkyl iodides with the olefin. The products obtained then contain a double bond.
The functional groups present in the polyfluoroalkyl iodides, such as. B. hydroxyl, carboxyl and ester groups offer further reaction possibilities for the production of secondary products. For example, after esterification of the hydroxyl group with (meth) acrylic, crotonic, itaconic, fumaric or maleic acid or z. B. allyl isocyanate, reactive esters or carbamates are formed, which can be polymerized.
The reaction of an amino group with an acid chloride of the acids mentioned above creates a reactive amide which can be polymerized.
Carboxyl groups can be esterified; the resulting esters can, insofar as they are derived from unsaturated compounds, also be polymerized, such as. B.
Vinyl ester.
The application products produced from the intermediate products described are well suited for finishing (in particular for oleophobizing and hydrophobizing) porous substrates such as, for. B. textiles, paper, leather and wood as well as non-porous substrates such. B. metal or glass or plastic surfaces.
Furthermore, the compounds according to the invention can also be used directly as lubricants and lubricants and as additives for hydraulic fluids, polishes and waxes, or as surface-active auxiliaries.
