Abstract

The substrate fluid in bioreactors is cooled and aerated by mixing and circulating admitted air with the fluid. Air inlet tubes are led to each fluid channel of the heat exchanger, used for cooling the fluid. The tubes are so arranged that they terminate in the suction zone of the circulating fluid which entrains the emerging air. The heat exchanger is assembled from separate units, built into a common casing. This saves expensive high-capacity compressors for the aeration. The efficient air supply prevents any oxygen starvation of the microorganisms during cooling. Reactors for growing yeast and bacteria for food and animal feeding stuff proteins.
